The quickest way to watch the 2025 inauguration now
For the formal swearing-in ceremony, the best free source is the JCCIC livestream and video page. The committee is responsible for the official congressional inauguration ceremonies, and its page identifies the January 20, 2025 video.
- Open the official JCCIC page.
- Select the January 20, 2025 inaugural ceremonies video.
- If the embedded player fails, open the direct JCCIC YouTube replay.
This is the closest available source to the official ceremony feed and is the right choice if you want the oaths and inaugural address without a cable subscription or a news network’s extended commentary.
Free replay options
Because the event is over, links labeled “live” should be treated as archived-video pages if they show a January 20, 2025 recording. Archive availability, captions, playback controls, and regional access can change.

If one video disappears, return to the JCCIC page first. It is more reliable than choosing an unfamiliar YouTube upload simply because its title says “official.”
What time did the inauguration start?
The ceremony occurred on Monday, January 20, 2025. The formal inaugural proceedings began at approximately 11:30 a.m. Eastern Time, and Vice President JD Vance’s oath and President Donald Trump’s oath were expected around noon ET. The National Park Service schedule provides the official event information.
News networks began their broader coverage much earlier:
- Fox News: coverage was announced as early as 4 a.m. ET.
- CNN: coverage began at 7 a.m. ET.
- CBS News: coverage began at 9 a.m. ET and was scheduled through 5 p.m.
- NPR: its YouTube special began at 11 a.m. ET.
- PBS News: coverage began at 10:30 a.m. ET.
Those are broadcaster programming times, not the start of the formal ceremony. Published schedules can also change, particularly during a live national event.

Free online coverage that was available without cable
PBS News
PBS News announced live coverage beginning at 10:30 a.m. ET on PBS stations and its digital and social platforms. The PBS archived special is the better choice if you want reporting, analysis, and a longer presentation rather than only the official ceremony.
CBS News
CBS advertised free coverage through CBS News 24/7 on CBSNews.com and the CBS News app. Do not assume that every route through Paramount+ or another streaming product is free; a direct web or app stream was the safer no-cost option. Platform requirements may change for archived video.
FoxNews.com
Fox News announced a live broadcast on FoxNews.com in addition to Fox News Channel. Website access can vary by location, device, or sign-in requirement, so it should be treated as an alternative rather than a guaranteed cable-free route for every viewer.

CNN.com and the CNN app
CNN announced coverage on CNN.com and its connected-TV and mobile apps, along with on-demand video and a vertical livestream experience. CNN’s overall live-TV access can vary by program and platform, and some programming may ask for TV-provider authentication.

The official C-SPAN YouTube video is one of the strongest archived alternatives. It is useful for viewers who prefer extended government-event coverage and less commentary.
NPR
NPR offered a live YouTube special beginning at 11 a.m. ET. Its coverage is better suited to live reporting, analysis, and audio-oriented viewing than to a ceremony-only feed. The original video may no longer be available.
Can you watch without internet?
On Inauguration Day, viewers could use a local broadcast affiliate if ABC, CBS, NBC, or PBS carried the coverage in their area. A television with a digital tuner and an antenna can receive local over-the-air channels without a cable subscription or internet connection. Reception depends on location, signal conditions, and the local affiliate’s schedule.
The Federal Trade Commission’s antenna guidance explains what to check before buying an indoor antenna. An antenna is not automatically free because the equipment may cost money, but it does not require a monthly pay-TV bill.
For a future live event, check local listings rather than assuming every affiliate follows the same network schedule. For the 2025 event today, an antenna cannot recreate the live broadcast, so an archived online video is the practical option.
How to watch on a phone, computer, smart TV, or streaming device
Phone or computer
- Open the JCCIC page or direct YouTube replay.
- Tap or click the play button.
- Use the timeline to return to the beginning or jump to a later section.
- Select the gear icon to lower quality if the video buffers.
- Turn on the CC control if captions are available.
Smart TV, Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, or another streaming device
Open the YouTube app and use the direct JCCIC or C-SPAN link from a phone or computer to identify the video. You can also search within the app for the exact video title, but beginning at the official JCCIC website reduces the chance of selecting an impersonator or unauthorized rebroadcast. Availability of a particular app or archived video differs by device and region.

Casting or HDMI
Use the Cast or AirPlay control when the phone and television are on the same Wi-Fi network and the television or streaming device supports it. Alternatively, connect the computer to the television with HDMI and select the corresponding input. These methods do not require a cable-TV subscription, but casting still requires an internet connection.
ASL interpretation and captions
There was a dedicated accessibility option for the live event. DPAN announced an ASL livestream in partnership with PBS News, scheduled for 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET on January 20, 2025.

ASL interpretation and closed captions are different features:
- ASL: a signer interprets the event in a dedicated video stream.
- Closed captions: text appears over or beneath the video when the player supports it.
On the PBS replay, look for the CC button. YouTube may provide captions on an archived video, but automatic or uploaded captions should not be guaranteed unless they are visible on the specific recording. The availability of ASL interpretation may also differ between the original live stream and its replay.
What was included in the official ceremony?
The JCCIC’s official ceremony page separates the formal proceedings from the rest of Inauguration Day. The ceremony included:
- A musical prelude and a performance by the Marine Band
- Call to order and welcoming remarks
- Invocations
- JD Vance’s vice-presidential oath
- “America the Beautiful,” performed by Carrie Underwood
- Donald Trump’s presidential oath
- “The Battle Hymn of the Republic”
- Trump’s inaugural address
- Benediction and the national anthem
- Honorary departure
- A speech in Emancipation Hall
- A signing ceremony
- The inaugural luncheon
- The First Honors ceremony
If you want the words rather than the video, the Congressional Record provides the official ceremony transcript, and the U.S. Senate’s inaugural program archive provides the official program.
Why the location and parade coverage changed
Earlier pre-event schedules described an outdoor ceremony at the Capitol’s West Front. Freezing weather changed that plan. The final ceremony was held inside the U.S. Capitol Rotunda, as reflected in the JCCIC’s final information and subsequent reporting.

The weather also changed the normal parade format. Viewers should not expect the 2025 coverage to show a standard outdoor parade along Pennsylvania Avenue in the same form as earlier inaugurations. Coverage instead included later events at Capital One Arena and other indoor or modified activities.
This is why a guide based only on pre-event articles can be misleading: location, start times, and the sequence of public events can change even after broadcasters publish their schedules.

Do not substitute an unverified third-party stream merely because it uses a government-sounding title.
A broadcaster asks for a TV provider
That is a platform-access issue, not evidence that the inauguration required cable. Use the JCCIC, PBS, or C-SPAN route instead. Avoid assuming that a free trial, a live-TV bundle, or an app download is necessary for a ceremony that was available through official web sources.
The replay buffers
- Refresh the official page.
- Lower the quality to 480p or 360p.
- Close duplicate video streams and unused browser tabs.
- Switch from a broadcaster’s website to YouTube.
- Use Ethernet or move closer to the Wi-Fi router.
- Try PBS or C-SPAN as a backup.

How to avoid inauguration-stream scams
Use links reached from the official JCCIC, PBS, C-SPAN, State Department, or broadcaster websites. Be wary of a stream that:
- Requests cryptocurrency or a payment to unlock the broadcast
- Requires unfamiliar software or a browser extension download
- Uses a channel name imitating a government agency
- Promises prizes, giveaways, or urgent donations
- Has no link from the claimed government agency or broadcaster
A legitimate free stream should not require cryptocurrency, suspicious downloads, or a payment simply to view a public ceremony.
What you do not need to pay for
Paid live-TV services such as YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, Sling, and DirecTV Stream were options discussed by some contemporaneous streaming guides, but they were not necessary for a viewer whose only goal was to watch the inauguration.
