American Idol voting is currently closed. Season 24’s finale aired on May 11, 2026, and the official voting page no longer shows an active ballot. When a new live voting window opens, start at AmericanIdol.com/Vote and follow the instructions shown for that episode.
How American Idol voting worked in Season 24
Season 24 offered three voting routes: the official website, text messaging, and comments on designated social-media posts. The dedicated American Idol app was not a voting method for that season.

How to vote online
When voting is active, use these steps:
- Go to AmericanIdol.com/Vote. During Season 24, it redirected viewers to
idolvote.abc.com. - Create a free account or sign in.
- Select the contestant you want to support.
- Assign the number of votes you want to use.
- Click “Save” before the voting period ends.
Selecting votes without saving them does not submit the ballot. If the page is slow, do not wait until the final seconds; sign in and make your selections early in the voting window.

How to vote by text message
- Watch the broadcast for the contestant’s current voting number.
- Open your phone’s messaging app.
- Text that number to
21523.
For example, if the show displays contestant number 4, send 4 to 21523. Season 24 allowed up to 10 text votes per contestant. Standard message and data rates may apply, depending on your wireless plan.
Do not reuse a contestant number from an older episode. Numbers can change, so use the number shown during the current broadcast.
How to vote through social media
Season 24 accepted social votes on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. The process was more specific than simply commenting on an American Idol post:

- Find the official voting post pinned for that episode.
- Leave a new, top-level comment containing the contestant’s correctly spelled name.
- Use one contestant name per comment.
A reply to another viewer’s comment is not the same as a new voting comment. Comments on regular, non-pinned posts, misspelled names, comments naming multiple contestants, and comments posted after the deadline may not count.
The Season 24 limit was up to 10 social-media votes per contestant on each platform. That meant Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok were treated separately, subject to the official rules for the voting period.
When does American Idol voting open and close?
Voting schedules vary by episode. During Season 24, voting generally opened during the live broadcast and closed at about 6 a.m. Eastern Time / 3 a.m. Pacific Time the following morning. That was a general pattern, not a permanent schedule.

Finale voting can use different timing from ordinary live shows. Check the voting page, the on-screen instructions, and the host’s announcement for the exact opening and closing times. A voting post can remain visible after the window has closed, so its continued presence does not prove that late votes are accepted.

For Season 24, the usual maximum was:

- 10 votes by text message
- 10 votes on Facebook
- 10 votes on Instagram

Do not assume that a future season will use the same total. ABC and the show may revise the number of votes, available platforms, or eligibility rules.

Do replies to American Idol comments count as votes?
They did not count under the Season 24 instructions. Social votes had to be new comments on the official pinned voting post, with one correctly spelled contestant name per comment.
