To keep a Kannada radio channel live on YouTube around the clock, send its audio feed through a live encoder—such as OBS Studio—alongside a station visual, and operate that encoder continuously from a computer or remote server. First confirm the channel can go live and that you have the rights to every recording and broadcast in the feed. Test an unlisted stream, monitor it while live, and do not rely on YouTube to save a complete replay of a broadcast longer than 12 hours.
Before you set up the stream
Check that the channel can go live
YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Check the channel’s current eligibility in YouTube Live Control Room before planning a launch. These platform rules can change, so confirm them again when you set up the broadcast. YouTube’s Get started with live streaming page also describes encoder streaming and current active-stream limits: up to 10 active streams per channel and three per stream key.
Clear the rights for the whole radio feed
Make an inventory of everything the stream will carry: songs and other recordings, jingles, adverts, presenter segments, and any rebroadcast material. Confirm that your permissions cover streaming on YouTube, the relevant territories, and continuous or repeated use. Kannada is the language or repertoire, not a separate YouTube rights category; the rights needed depend on the actual material and agreements. Consult the relevant rights holders or local advisers where needed.
YouTube Help warns that “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” YouTube may replace a stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it if it detects third-party content. A license by itself may not prevent interruption: if a rights holder uses Content ID, ask it to add your channel to its allowlist before launch. See Copyright issues with live streams.

Choose how the encoder will run
Local computer
A computer at the station or home can run a software encoder such as OBS Studio and send the radio audio to YouTube. This gives an operator direct access to the encoder and makes local troubleshooting straightforward, but the stream depends on that computer, its power, and its internet connection staying available. Plan who will notice and address a failure.
OBS Studio is free and open-source software; its project says it has no watermark or usage limitations and can be used commercially. You do not need to buy OBS to start. See the OBS Help Portal.

Remote server
A remote server running an encoder is another possible way to keep a broadcast operating without a station computer on site. A practitioner guide describes both local and VPS-based approaches, but this is not a YouTube uptime guarantee. A remote setup still depends on the server, its network, and the reliability of your restart and alerting arrangements. Compare the costs and operational responsibilities before choosing it; the sources do not establish a required server specification or price.
Dedicated hardware encoder
YouTube supports encoder workflows, including setups using audio and video hardware. Dedicated equipment may suit a station that already operates it, but the sources do not establish that any particular device is necessary. For an existing audio feed, choose the arrangement your team can configure, monitor, and recover if it stops.

Build a video presentation for the radio audio
YouTube encoder streams carry audio and video. Pair the radio feed with a station logo, schedule, or other visual material you are entitled to use. A static station image or looping visual is a practical presentation option described by a radio-streaming practitioner; it is not a special YouTube requirement. Avoid adding music, video clips, or other material to the visual layer unless you have rights to use it too.
Set up and test the broadcast
- Open YouTube Live Control Room. Create a live broadcast and select the encoder workflow. Follow the current on-screen instructions to connect the encoder and its stream key. Treat the stream key as a credential: keep it private and do not include it in screenshots, public notes, or shared configuration files.
- Connect the audio and visual sources in the encoder. Select the correct radio feed and confirm the station visual is present. YouTube’s encoder workflow supports audio and video; the sources do not establish a universal bitrate, resolution, or computer specification for every station. Use settings appropriate to the feed, encoder, and connection, then confirm the result in the preview rather than assuming one configuration fits all.
- Preview before going public. Start the encoder and wait for the Live Control Room preview to show that YouTube is receiving the signal. Listen for clean, continuous audio and check that the visual is present. Correct problems before starting a public broadcast.
- Run an unlisted test. Check the stream from the watch page and channel page, and on a mobile device. Test what happens if the encoder or connection drops, and verify that the local recording grows if you are keeping an archive. YouTube’s YouTube live streaming tips recommend testing failover and monitoring audio and video quality.
- Go live and keep watch. Confirm the broadcast is visible where expected. Assign someone to monitor audio and video, receive alerts, and restart the encoder or switch to a fallback if needed. An unattended encoder is not a substitute for a tested recovery plan.
Plan for interruptions and replay limits
Decide how you will recover
Write down who receives failure alerts, who can restart the encoder, and what viewers will see if the radio feed fails. Test that plan before relying on the broadcast. YouTube recommends monitoring and failover testing, but does not promise a particular uptime for a local computer or hosted encoder.

Keep a local archive if the program matters
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. A 24/7 broadcast therefore should not be treated as one guaranteed, complete YouTube replay. If you need a program archive, record it locally and verify that the recording is being saved. See Archive live streams.
