To keep a church choir concert playlist playing on YouTube around the clock, send YouTube a continuous audio-and-video feed from an encoder, with a source configured to repeat the recordings. YouTube’s ordinary playlist feature is not established as a way to turn recordings into an unattended, looping livestream. The church must provide the repeating source, keep the encoder operating, and plan to monitor and recover the stream.
What you need for a continuous choir stream
YouTube supports encoder-based livestreaming and identifies concerts as a common use. An encoder sends a live audio-and-video feed to the channel; it does not, by itself, establish that a playlist will repeat. Choose a software encoder on a computer or compatible hardware, then verify that your chosen source and encoder can repeat the concert material and remain operational for the intended run.
YouTube also offers mobile and webcam streaming, but an encoder workflow is the relevant approach for a prepared concert playlist and production controls. YouTube names OBS among encoders with HLS output; that does not confirm a particular repeat-playback setup or computer specification. Check the encoder’s current documentation and test the exact configuration before relying on it.
Clear music rights before streaming
Confirm that the church has the necessary rights for every element in the program, including compositions, arrangements, performances, recordings, and other included material. YouTube’s livestream terms make the content provider responsible for rights covering live and archived content, including music rights from artists, labels, publishers, and other rights participants. Even when you have permission, YouTube may scan the live feed for third-party content and interrupt or terminate a stream after a match. For licensed third-party material, ask the relevant rights owner whether the channel needs to be added to its Content ID allowlist. A completed livestream archive can also receive Content ID claims after the broadcast. Review archive settings and decide who will assess and respond to claims. Check channel eligibility and configure YouTube Studio
- Confirm the channel can go live. YouTube’s current help guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions during the preceding 90 days. It also says streamers must be at least 16 years old. Check eligibility before scheduling the broadcast. YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming
- Open Live Control Room in YouTube Studio. Create or schedule the stream and configure its settings there. YouTube supports reusable stream settings and keys, scheduling, and auto-start/auto-stop options for encoder streams. These are stream-management controls; they do not make a playlist recur or guarantee uninterrupted operation. YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings
- Connect the encoder using the stream key. The key is the information the encoder uses to send its feed to YouTube. Treat it as private: do not publish it or share it outside the people responsible for operating the stream. Use the current ingestion method and settings shown for the stream in YouTube Studio.
- Start the encoder and check the preview. Confirm that picture and audio reach Live Control Room before making the broadcast public. Verify the watch page and access on the devices your congregation is likely to use.
Choose an encoder and repeat source

The sources do not establish one best encoder, a minimum computer configuration, or a particular music-rights provider. Choose based on production needs, audio quality, setup complexity, recovery options, and the church’s capacity to supervise the feed.

Test the complete stream and plan supervision
Before launch, run the same source, encoder, network, and YouTube settings you intend to use. YouTube recommends preparing the encoder in advance, starting it before a scheduled event, previewing the feed, checking that viewers can access it, testing network capacity, and monitoring audio and video quality. These preparations reduce avoidable surprises; they are not a guarantee of uninterrupted 24/7 service. YouTube Help: Live streaming tips
- Check upload capacity and leave bandwidth headroom rather than using the full available connection.
- Listen for missing, distorted, or unbalanced audio and watch for frozen, blank, or unstable video.
- Test the repeating source through a full cycle, including the transition back to the beginning.
- Confirm that the stream remains accessible on the intended watch page and devices.
- Keep a human monitoring and recovery plan for encoder, computer, network, and YouTube interruptions.
- If making an archive, confirm that the local recording is intact and assign someone to review any later copyright claims.
