To stream to YouTube and Amazon Interactive Video Service (IVS) at the same time, configure two separate destinations in an encoder or distribution service that explicitly supports simultaneous outputs. YouTube and IVS provide different ingest URLs and stream keys; the official setup guidance reviewed does not describe IVS as an automatic relay to YouTube. This guide covers the independent setup and checks for each feed.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream. YouTube requires channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it ahead of your broadcast. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance explains the requirements.
- An AWS account and an Amazon IVS channel.
- An encoder or distribution service that can send the same program to YouTube and IVS concurrently. Do not assume that support for one destination means an encoder supports both.
- A network connection with enough upload capacity for your chosen simultaneous outputs. YouTube specifically advises checking bandwidth when simulstreaming.
Decide whether your YouTube broadcast will be scheduled or started immediately. For a scheduled event, YouTube’s encoder workflow is to connect the encoder, wait for the preview in Live Control Room, then select “Go live.”
1. Create the Amazon IVS channel
Create a channel in the AWS console or with the AWS CLI. Channel creation provides an ingest server, a stream key, and a playback URL. The ingest server and key are the details your encoder needs to send video to IVS; the playback URL is for viewing the stream, not for sending it to YouTube. See AWS’s IVS channel creation guide.
Treat the IVS stream key as a secret: AWS says anyone who has it can stream to that channel. Do not include it in screenshots, public notes, or example configurations.

2. Configure the IVS output
Choose an ingest protocol your setup supports
Amazon IVS supports RTMP, RTMPS, and SRT ingest, subject to the channel and encoder configuration. RTMPS is a secure ingest option. Confirm that your selected encoder or distribution service supports the protocol you intend to use. AWS’s streaming configuration guidance describes the supported options.
Match output settings to the IVS channel
In the encoder’s IVS destination, enter the IVS ingest server and stream key. Set resolution and bitrate within the limits for your IVS channel type; AWS does not give one universal bitrate or resolution that applies to every channel. Its documented OBS setup recommends a two-second keyframe interval. Check the channel-specific limits and the encoder’s output status rather than applying generic settings that may not fit your channel. See AWS’s OBS setup steps.
Check firewall access if the encoder cannot connect
For RTMPS, AWS lists outbound TCP port 443 to *.live-video.net. For SRT, it lists TCP port 9000 to *.srt.live-video.net. A restrictive firewall or network policy can block ingest; consult AWS’s network configuration requirements if the connection fails.

3. Set up YouTube Live
Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or select the stream, and copy its stream URL and stream key. Enter those credentials into the YouTube destination in your encoder or distribution workflow—not into the IVS destination. YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes how to connect an encoder, while its stream settings guide explains the stream URL and key.

Keep it private, and reset it if it may have been exposed. Verify the YouTube preview in Live Control Room. For a scheduled broadcast, use the event’s “Go live” control once the preview is ready.
4. Send the program to both destinations
YouTube calls broadcasting the same content on multiple platforms at once “simulstreaming.” Its guidance is to have active accounts on the platforms, obtain each platform’s stream URL and key, and ensure sufficient upload speed. Read YouTube’s guidance on streaming across platforms.

Use an encoder with multiple outputs
If your encoder supports concurrent outputs, configure one output with the YouTube URL and key and the other with the IVS ingest server and key. Confirm that the encoder can run both outputs at once and check each output’s status independently. Multiple-output support and its limits depend on the particular encoder; the platform setup instructions alone do not establish that every encoder can do this.
Use a distribution service
Alternatively, send one feed to a distribution service configured to forward it to both YouTube and IVS. Before relying on it, verify that it supports both destinations and check its credential handling, reconnect behavior, processing or transcoding, and what happens if one destination fails. An extra forwarding hop can affect latency. AWS strongly recommends against third-party forwarding to IVS when low latency is needed, so consider the latency requirements of your production.

5. Start and verify both feeds
- Start the encoder or distribution workflow and confirm that its YouTube and IVS outputs each report a successful connection.
- Check the YouTube preview in Live Control Room. For scheduled events, select “Go live” there when ready.
- Check IVS playback in the AWS console or with an IVS Player SDK. AWS says console playback can take up to 30 seconds, usually less, to appear after streaming starts.
- Monitor each destination separately during the broadcast. If one feed stops, diagnose its connection and credentials without assuming the other feed has also failed.
AWS also notes that viewing the console preview consumes live-video output, and console broadcasting consumes input. Check applicable AWS charges before production; the documentation cited here does not establish a price for your particular usage.

YouTube shows no preview
Check that the YouTube stream URL and key—not the IVS endpoint and key—are in the YouTube destination. Confirm the stream’s status in Live Control Room. If the key may have been exposed, reset it using YouTube’s stream settings.
IVS shows no picture
Confirm the IVS ingest server and key, selected protocol, and channel-type resolution and bitrate limits. Check firewall access for the protocol in use. If using the console preview, allow for its documented delay of up to 30 seconds, usually less.

The encoder rejects the connection or keeps disconnecting
Check that the encoder supports the selected protocol, that the channel allows the chosen output settings, and that the keyframe interval is two seconds for the documented OBS setup. Verify the relevant firewall rules and inspect the encoder’s connection status.
Only one destination works
Review the URL, key, and output status for each destination separately. Confirm that the encoder or distribution service actually supports concurrent output to both services; support can vary by tool.
The upload connection cannot sustain both feeds
Check available upload capacity and reduce the output load if needed. YouTube advises having sufficient bandwidth for simulstreaming. A distribution service may change the network and latency trade-offs, so verify its behavior and consider AWS’s warning about third-party forwarding when low latency to IVS matters.
