Spotify has four different ways to inspect listening activity: Recents for songs you played lately, Listening stats for recent patterns, Wrapped for an annual summary, and an account-data download for a deeper historical archive. Choose the route that matches the question you are trying to answer.

See recently played songs on a phone or tablet
- Open Spotify.
- Tap Home.
- Tap your profile picture or avatar.
- Tap Recents (Spotify may label it Recently played).
- Use the available filters, such as Music, to narrow the activity list.
This is a convenient short-term view, not a complete archive of every track played on the account. The current mobile instructions are documented by Spotify Support.
See recently played songs in the desktop app
- Open the installed Spotify desktop application.
- Click Play Queue at the bottom-right of the player.
- Click Recents.
Spotify describes this desktop view as showing the last 50 songs. The web player may not expose the same controls, so use the desktop app when Play Queue → Recents is missing.
Open Spotify Listening stats
- Open the Spotify mobile app.
- Swipe left on the Home screen, or tap your profile picture.
- Tap Listening stats.
- Review the sections available on your account.
Spotify says Listening stats can include repeatedly played artists and songs, comparisons with the average listener in your country, favorite fandoms and other music-taste insights (Spotify Support).

Spotify also announced a newer Listening Stats experience on November 6, 2025. At launch it was described as available to Free and Premium users in more than 60 markets and covering the previous four weeks, with top artists, songs, insights and sharing options (Spotify Newsroom). That market count and the exact interface are launch-era details, not a guarantee that every account has the same feature today.
If Listening stats is missing
- Update Spotify from your device’s official app store.
- Force-close and reopen the app.
- Sign out, then sign back in.
- Check the mobile app rather than only the desktop client or web player.
- Search Spotify for “Listening stats” or inspect the profile menu.
- If it still does not appear, use Recents, Wrapped or the account-data download.
Country availability, account rollout, app version and mobile-only presentation can all affect what you see.
Find your Spotify Wrapped results
Wrapped is Spotify’s annual, presentation-style summary. For the 2025 experience, Spotify directed users to the Wrapped feed at the top of Home or to search for 2025 Wrapped in the mobile app; updating the app could be necessary (Spotify Newsroom). Access, stories and timing can change by year and region.

Depending on the year’s experience, Wrapped can show minutes listened, top songs and a personalized top-songs playlist, top artists, genres, podcasts, albums, audiobook results and share cards.

Wrapped is not a full playback log and is not a guaranteed January-through-December record. Spotify’s 2025 methodology used listening from January 1 through approximately mid-November so the experience could be prepared, and counted a listen after more than 30 seconds (Spotify’s methodology explanation).
Download a deeper or complete Spotify listening history
For tracks outside the visible Recents list, request your personal data from Spotify. Sign in to the correct account in a browser, open the account’s Privacy or Account Privacy area, and use the automated Download your data tool. Spotify prepares a ZIP file; the exact labels and package choices can change, so use the current privacy page rather than relying on a fixed account URL (Spotify privacy guidance).

- Download and extract the ZIP archive.
- Open the Streaming History or Extended Streaming History JSON files in a text editor, JSON viewer, spreadsheet or analysis tool.
Streaming History versus Extended Streaming History

Spotify explains the fields and package differences in its data documentation. Extended files can contain sensitive information such as IP address, country, device and user-agent data; do not upload the raw ZIP or JSON files to an unknown charting website.
Read and calculate from the JSON files
JSON is a structured text format. After extracting the ZIP, locate files whose names resemble Streaming History or Extended Streaming History. Each playback record commonly includes an msPlayed value, meaning milliseconds played.

Import the files into a spreadsheet or script to total listening time, group records by artist or track, chart listening by month or device, count skips, measure offline-play percentages or identify long sessions. Timestamps are in UTC, so convert them to your local time zone before grouping by calendar day.

A record count is not automatically Spotify’s official stream count. History can contain partial playback, while Wrapped uses feature-specific rules: Spotify says a song counts after more than 30 seconds and that top artists use weighted stream counts rather than simply the number of rows.

Private Session
Spotify says Private Session listening is not shown in Recently Played, is not published to Friend Activity and does not update Top Artists (Spotify Support). Spotify’s downloadable data can still contain private-session indicators, depending on the package supplied.
Different account or shared device
Check that you are signed into the account that played the track. Listening on a shared smart speaker, TV, car system or household account can change someone else’s Recents and statistics. Review connected devices, sign out unknown devices and change the password if account sharing is suspected.

Offline playback and taste controls
Spotify says Wrapped includes offline listening, while downloaded files may label offline activity differently. Listening in Private Mode and tracks or playlists excluded from the Taste Profile do not shape taste-based Wrapped stories, although Spotify distinguishes that from total listening-time calculations. Do not assume an exclusion removes a play from every metric.
Different time windows and definitions
Recents is a short visible window; Listening stats can focus on recent weeks; Wrapped uses its annual cutoff; and a standard Streaming History package covers the past year unless Extended Streaming History is supplied. These differences, plus partial plays, weighted artist rankings, offline playback and shared-device activity, explain why an export, Listening stats and Wrapped may disagree.
App or data-package limits
Refresh the app, confirm the correct account and check whether the requested data is ready. If a months-old track is absent, make sure you are not inspecting only the past-year package when an Extended Streaming History package is available.
