If OBS is counting network dropped frames, first test the connection to YouTube—not your encoder load. Confirm the counter in OBS Stats, compare Ethernet with Wi-Fi, check for competing uploads, and lower the bitrate until the connection can sustain it during your real streaming hours. Rendering lag and viewer buffering are different problems, so identify the symptom before changing settings.
Identify which kind of “dropped frames” you have
Open OBS’s Stats window while the problem is happening and watch which counter increases. OBS explains that dropped frames occur when frames sent over the network do not reach the remote ingest reliably, or the connection cannot sustain the configured bitrate; OBS discards frames rather than letting the stream buffer. OBS Help Portal
- Network dropped frames: the connection between OBS and the remote ingest is unstable or cannot keep up with the bitrate. OBS’s connection indicator may turn yellow or red.
- Rendering lag: OBS cannot render frames quickly enough. This points to rendering or system load, not necessarily the network path.
- Viewers report buffering: playback can buffer even while OBS reports no network drops. Use YouTube’s stream health information and viewer reports to distinguish playback issues from OBS’s send connection. OBS Stream Buffering Troubleshooting
Do not lower encoder settings just because someone says the stream is “lagging.” First establish whether the network dropped-frames counter is rising.
Diagnose the connection in a useful order
1. Establish a clean baseline
- Record the time, OBS network dropped-frames counter, configured bitrate, YouTube stream-health warnings, and whether the computer is on Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
- If you use Wi-Fi, run a comparable test over Ethernet. A cable is useful here as a diagnostic comparison, not a guaranteed fix.
- Pause cloud backups, large uploads, downloads, and other sustained household traffic during the comparison. Test with those services both paused and in their normal state if possible; the difference shows whether competing traffic matters.
- Temporarily test without a VPN or network-filtering/security software if practical, following OBS’s troubleshooting guidance. Restore protections after the test and change one factor at a time.
OBS Project describes dropped frames or intermittent disconnections as evidence of “a network issue between your computer and the remote stream ingest server.” Its troubleshooting page is dated 2024-09-30: Stream Connection Troubleshooting. A changed result after one test is evidence about that particular setup, not proof that your ISP is at fault.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
2. Check whether your bitrate is sustainable
Run an upload speed test, but do not treat one result as proof that your connection can sustain the same rate to YouTube ingest for an entire stream. Available upload capacity can vary with time of day, household use, Wi-Fi conditions, and the route to the ingest server. YouTube Help recommends testing upload bitrate and testing the stream before going live: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
- Check YouTube’s current bitrate guidance for your selected resolution and frame rate. Its table gives resolution-specific ranges; there is no single bitrate that suits every output.
- Set OBS’s video bitrate below what your connection can reliably sustain during busy periods, not merely below the best speed-test result you have seen.
- Run a private or unlisted test stream with the same audio, motion, resolution, and frame rate you intend to use. Watch OBS Stats and YouTube stream health for long enough to observe ordinary household conditions.
- If drops continue, reduce bitrate in measured steps and repeat the test. If the counter stops rising, the original setting exceeded the stable capacity of that path at that time; the trade-off is reduced picture quality.
3. Verify the encoder settings for YouTube
Use the current YouTube live encoder page as the authority for compatible codec choices and resolution-specific settings, since its recommendations and options can change. YouTube recommends CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, and says the interval should not exceed four seconds. Compatible codecs listed by YouTube include H.264, HEVC, and AV1 where applicable. These settings do not repair an unstable network, but they help ensure the stream is configured for the platform.

4. Try bitrate adaptation only as a fallback
OBS offers “Dynamically change bitrate to manage congestion” in its network settings. It can lower the bitrate when the connection cannot keep up, which may reduce network drops at the cost of image quality. OBS cautions that this manages the symptom rather than fixing the underlying network problem. Use it as a continuity measure, not as evidence that the connection is healthy. See the OBS connection troubleshooting guide.
5. Compare the route to YouTube ingest
If the problem persists after a wired test and a sustainable bitrate, compare another available YouTube ingest-server or connection option and review OBS logs alongside YouTube stream-health warnings. Make one change at a time and note whether the result changes. If connection problems persist after OBS’s troubleshooting steps, OBS recommends contacting your ISP.

There is no single “India” network condition: city, ISP, access technology, local congestion, and routing to YouTube ingest differ. The guidance here does not establish a current map of Indian ISP routes or city-level ingest performance. If tests point to the route, share timestamps and OBS logs with your ISP and ask it to investigate the path or peering to YouTube ingest rather than assuming a provider or region is responsible.

If keeping OBS and a computer running is itself the problem, StreamNeo is a separate YouTube-only option for looping uploaded recordings from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home. Uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; there are no quality tiers or re-encoding. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. It plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera, and it does not diagnose or repair an ISP route.
