Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →To repeat a fireplace clip into a one-hour file without re-encoding, put -stream_loop -1 before the input and limit the output with -t:
ffmpeg -stream_loop -1 -i fireplace.mp4 -t 01:00:00 -c copy looped.mp4
This repeats the entire input; it does not remove a black frame already encoded at the beginning or end, or make mismatched endpoints seamless. Inspect the source boundary if black flashes, jumps, or freezes remain.
First determine what is wrong at the loop boundary
“No black frames” can describe three different problems. Identify which one you have before changing the command:
- A black frame is in the source. A loop repeats that frame. Inspect the source’s first and last frames and trim or edit the offending boundary.
- The picture jumps, but is not black. The final and opening images may differ. A seamless loop needs footage with compatible endpoints or an edited transition.
- The image freezes or playback gaps. Check video and audio durations and timestamps at the join. A longer audio stream can leave video holding its last frame at a repeat boundary.
A loop option repeats media; it is not a black-frame detector or a repair tool.

- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Repeat the whole clip for a fixed-duration file
ffmpeg -stream_loop -1 -i fireplace.mp4 -t 01:00:00 -c copy looped.mp4
-stream_loop -1repeats the input indefinitely.-stream_loopis an input option, so place it before the corresponding-i.-t 01:00:00stops the output after one hour. Change the duration to the length you need.-c copycopies the streams without re-encoding, so it avoids altering the encoded frames. It works only when the source streams can be copied compatibly into the output container.
This command creates a finite file, not a live broadcast. It cannot change frames already in the source or guarantee a clean-looking join for every clip and container. Preview the output where one repetition meets the next.
Choose the right fix for the boundary
| Approach | Use it when | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
Input -stream_loop with stream copy |
You need to repeat the whole source without changing its frames. | Avoids re-encoding, but repeats bad endpoint frames and may not join cleanly with every source or container. |
FFmpeg video loop filter |
You need to repeat a selected section of decoded frames within a processing workflow. | Requires frame buffering and an encoding workflow for filtered output. |
| Trim or edit the boundary and re-encode | The source includes unwanted endpoint frames or needs a visual transition. | Can change the boundary, but takes encoding time and can alter the picture. |
Use the video loop filter for selected frames
FFmpeg’s video loop filter repeats decoded frames. Its loop, size, and start options control repetition and the buffered section. Choose the frame range deliberately: the filter does not detect black frames or fix a poor source boundary automatically. Because filtering operates on decoded media, the filtered output needs an encoder.

Trim or transition a bad endpoint
If the opening or closing frames themselves are black, inspect and trim or rebuild the source boundary; repeating the clip will only repeat the problem. If the endpoints differ, consider selecting more compatible footage or editing a transition. A crossfade is not automatically the answer for fire footage: it can create a brightness dip or ghosted flames. Preview the edit before using it.
For a boundary that needs editing, use a filter workflow and re-encode. The FFmpeg FAQ recommends its concat filter when re-encoding is needed; the appropriate edit depends on what the frames show.

Check audio, duration, and timestamps
- For a silent fireplace video: explicitly omit audio with
-anif an unrelated or longer audio stream is affecting duration or playback at the join. - If keeping sound: inspect the audio and video durations and decide how each should repeat or end. Map audio and video deliberately; a longer audio stream can outlast the video. FFmpeg’s looping-guide example for separate audio and video uses
-shortestto end when the shorter selected input ends, but that may not match every intended result. - If there is a gap or freeze: review decoded frames around the boundary and check timestamps before changing frame rate or adding timestamp-generation flags. A black gap and an encoded black frame are different problems.
If you mean a live fireplace broadcast
The command above writes a file. Sending an ongoing broadcast requires a destination protocol and that service’s ingest settings; there is no single universal live-stream command for an unspecified platform. Configure the destination using its own instructions, then verify the actual stream at the loop boundary. A file that looks correct locally does not by itself establish that a live endpoint is configured correctly.
Troubleshoot the common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| A black flash appears at every repeat. | The source begins or ends with a black frame. | Inspect the first and last frames; trim or edit the source boundary, then preview the encoded output. |
| The picture jumps, but no black frame appears. | The final image does not visually match the opening image. | Choose footage with compatible endpoints or preview an edited transition. |
| The last image freezes before the next repetition. | Audio and video durations or timestamps may not align. | Inspect both streams and the frames and timestamps around the join; check whether audio is longer than video. |
| The command fails with stream copy. | The streams may not be compatible with the chosen output container. | Confirm the container and stream compatibility. If frames must be filtered or edited, use a filter-and-encode workflow instead of stream copy. |
| The file loops, but the live broadcast does not. | A finite file command does not configure a live destination. | Check the platform’s ingest protocol and settings, and verify the stream at the destination. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a YouTube channel that keeps a pre-recorded fireplace video live, StreamNeo is a separate option from fixing the file’s loop boundary: upload the video, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; the service loops uploaded video in the cloud, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. Uploaded quality is preserved up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start the free day.
