How to Fix Disney+ Keeps Logging Out on Your TV

If Disney+ keeps returning your TV to the login screen, first check whether it is a true sign-out or an activation, playback, or app-crash problem. For a genuine recurring logout, work through this order: sign in again, restart the app and TV, update Disney+ and the TV software, clear the app’s data or reinstall it, then check account security. If Disney+ works on your other devices but the TV still forgets its login, the TV’s app platform may be the issue.

First, confirm what “logging out” means

Look at the screen the next time the problem happens. The right fix depends on what you see:

  • Disney+ shows Log In whenever you open it: The app may be losing its saved session or local data.
  • The TV shows a QR code or an eight-digit code: The device needs to be activated again. This can look like a logout, but it is an activation prompt.
  • You remain signed in but cannot play a title: Read the error message before changing your password. A streaming-limit or connection error is not the same as a forgotten login.
  • The app freezes or crashes, then asks you to log in: Update, restart, and repair the app installation before treating it as an account problem.
  • Other apps also forget logins or behave erratically: The TV’s software, storage, user profile, or reset settings may be involved.

Note when it happens: after the TV is switched off, after a full restart, after a password change, or at random. That pattern helps distinguish an app that cannot retain data from an account session that has been invalidated.

Sign in again using the TV activation flow

On many U.S. TV-connected devices, Disney+ uses an activation code:

  • Simple setup: Simply turn on your Roku device and pull the battery tab on the back of the remote and it should pair automatically
  • Works with your Roku device: Roku Voice Remote works with all Roku TV models, Roku audio products, and most Roku players*
  1. Open Disney+ on the TV and select Log In.
  2. Scan the QR code, or visit DisneyPlus.com/begin on a phone or computer.
  3. Enter the eight-digit code shown on the TV, then sign in with the email and password for the Disney+ account.
  4. Wait for the TV app to refresh. Select Start Streaming if it appears.

The exact screen can differ by device, app version, country, or rollout. Some TV-connected devices also offer an email one-time-code option; Disney says its six-digit email code expires after 15 minutes. If a code fails, confirm both devices are online, generate a fresh code, and check that you are using the email linked to the subscription. If the activation page will not load properly, try a private or incognito browser window. Never post or share the activation code publicly. See Disney’s TV sign-in instructions and login help.

Fix a recurring logout in this order

1. Close Disney+ completely

Exit the app rather than simply leaving it suspended in the background. If your device has an app switcher or force-stop option, close Disney+ there, then reopen it. If the login stays put after this, test again after a normal TV power-off.

2. Power-cycle the TV and, if needed, the network

  1. Turn off the TV or streaming player and unplug it from power for about 30–60 seconds.
  2. Plug it back in, start it, and open Disney+.
  3. If other apps are also failing or the TV cannot connect reliably, restart the modem and router. Wait for the internet connection to return before testing Disney+.

The unplug interval is a practical restart step, not a required Disney setting. Disney recommends closing the app, checking the connection, power-cycling, and testing other apps as part of its app troubleshooting guidance.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

3. Update Disney+ and the TV software

Check for an update to Disney+ in the TV’s app store or the streaming device’s app menu. Then check for an update to the TV’s firmware or operating system. Install available updates and restart the device before testing again. An old app or system version can cause app problems, but updating is not a guarantee that a device that has stopped retaining data will recover.

On Roku, Disney notes that some subscribers may need an app or system update for particular Disney+ access scenarios. A Roku system update is commonly found under Settings > System > System Update; labels can vary by version. See Disney’s streaming troubleshooting page and its Roku-related guidance.

4. Clear Disney+ cache or data, if your device offers it

Cache is temporary app data; clearing it is not the same as clearing the account or changing the password. Data or storage resets the app’s local state, so expect to sign in again afterward. Menu names vary by device and software version. Disney lists these paths:

  • Android TV/Google TV: Settings > Applications > Disney+ > Clear Cache and, if needed, Clear Data.
  • Fire TV: Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications > Disney+ > Clear Cache and, if needed, Clear Data.
  • Apple TV: Disney’s guidance is to uninstall and reinstall Disney+ rather than use a separate cache-clearing control.
  • Hisense TV: Disney lists Home > Network > Clear Internet Memory.
  • LG TV: Disney lists clearing browsing data through Home > Web Browser > Menu > Settings > Clear Browsing Data.
  • Samsung Tizen: Disney lists Home > Settings > Broadcasting > Expert Settings > HbbTV Settings > Delete Browsing Data.

These are Disney-published paths, not universal instructions for every model. If you cannot find the named control, stop rather than selecting an unrelated reset option. Roku and game-console menus differ; use their own app-management controls or Disney’s device-specific support guidance. Disney’s cache and data instructions provide more detail.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

After clearing data, restart the TV, open Disney+, and sign in again. Leave the app open until its home screen loads, then turn the TV off and back on to see whether the session persists.

5. Reinstall Disney+

If the app still loses its session, uninstall it, restart the TV or streaming player, reinstall Disney+ from the official app store, and sign in again. Test once more after a normal power-off and restart. Reinstallation can replace a damaged app installation; it will not fix a locked or compromised account, a router problem, a Disney service outage, or a persistent fault in the TV’s operating system.

6. Deactivate and reactivate the TV

If Disney+ works on your phone or computer but the TV repeatedly asks for activation, sign out of the TV app if that option is available. Review the active devices in your Disney+ account, remove any device you do not recognize, and activate the TV again using the QR-code or DisneyPlus.com/begin process. Disney includes deactivation and reactivation in its troubleshooting steps.

Check whether the account needs attention

If sign-outs affect more than one device, or began after a password or email change, investigate the account before repeatedly reinstalling the TV app. Disney+ uses MyDisney credentials across participating Disney services, so a credential change may affect other services that use the same login.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Use the official Disney site or app to change the password. Choose a unique password you do not use elsewhere.
  2. Review the account’s active devices. Sign out of all devices or remove unfamiliar ones if you suspect unauthorized access.
  3. Sign in again only on devices you recognize, starting with the TV.
  4. If you see an unexpected email or password change, cannot access the account, or encounter an account lock, contact Disney support through its official help site.

Disney says suspicious login activity can lead to an account lock, and recommends a password reset and signing out of devices when unauthorized use is suspected. A repeated logout by itself does not prove that the account was compromised. See Disney’s login help and account-issues guidance.

Do not mistake a streaming limit for a logout

If the app stays signed in but displays Error 75, Disney identifies that as the maximum number of simultaneous streams for the plan being reached. Stop playback on other devices and review recently active devices; remove unfamiliar devices or sign out of all devices if needed. Error 75 is a streaming-limit problem, not proof that the TV has lost its saved login. Do not change plans unless you have confirmed that your plan’s stream limit is the issue. Disney’s current Error 75 guidance explains the response.

Likewise, treat any household or account-sharing warning as a separate message to diagnose. Do not assume it explains an app that returns to the login screen after every restart.

Use other apps and a second connection to isolate the cause

  • Open another streaming app on the TV. If several apps fail, investigate the TV or network rather than resetting Disney+ credentials.
  • Try Disney+ on a phone connected to the same Wi-Fi. If it works there but not on the TV, the TV app, software, or compatibility is more likely.
  • If practical, connect the TV by Ethernet or temporarily test the streaming player on a phone hotspot. If the hotspot works but home Wi-Fi does not, investigate the router, DNS or filtering settings, captive portal, or internet provider.
  • Check that the TV’s date and time are set automatically.

A useful interpretation: a problem on only one TV points toward its app or platform; several failing TV apps suggest a broader TV or network issue; and a problem across every device points more toward the account, subscription, or service. Disney lists unstable internet, router/modem trouble, compatibility, and outdated software among possible streaming problems. Avoid changing DNS, using a VPN, or factory-resetting the TV as first steps; those changes can introduce new location, verification, or setup problems.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Check whether the TV is discarding app data

If the TV forgets Disney+ again after reinstalling, look for signs that the television itself is clearing or failing to retain data. Free space by deleting unused apps, restart the TV, and check whether it is running a cleanup routine or undergoing resets. Also check for a guest, hotel, or retail-demo mode, parental controls, or a smart-home or power-management routine that may affect the device. These are possibilities to investigate, not confirmed causes of every Disney+ logout.

When an external streaming player makes sense

Test Disney+ on a phone, browser, or another TV first. An external player is a reasonable workaround if Disney+ works elsewhere but the built-in TV app continues to lose its session after updates, data clearing, and reinstallation—especially if the TV platform is old, slow, low on storage, or no longer receiving useful updates. It runs Disney+ outside the TV’s built-in app environment; it does not repair a locked account, incorrect password, subscription issue, compromised credentials, or Disney-side outage.

A factory reset of the TV is more disruptive: it removes settings, apps, and account sign-ins. Reserve it for a broader, persistent TV problem after you have checked storage, updates, and device modes. If an external device is more practical, choose a currently supported player from its manufacturer and the official app store, rather than installing an unofficial Disney+ app.

When to contact Disney

Contact Disney through its official help site if the account is locked, the email or password appears to have changed, every device fails, or reactivation and a clean reinstall do not help. If the issue affects only one TV after those steps, contact the TV or streaming-device manufacturer as well; Disney cannot repair a device operating-system fault.
