In OBS, a third-party alert overlay can be added with a Browser Source, but an always-visible reminder is not the same as an alert that appears only when someone subscribes. The steps below cover both options and the checks that matter for a continuous stream.
Choose between a static reminder and a subscriber alert
A static reminder stays on screen as part of the stream layout, for example: “Enjoying the stream? Subscribe.” It does not detect a subscription. A subscriber alert is an event-triggered overlay that appears when a viewer subscribes; it depends on a provider that supports that event and on its current YouTube integration.
YouTube lists mobile, webcam, encoder, and console as live-streaming methods. Its guidance specifically describes encoders as a way to stream with overlays, so the setup below applies to an encoder workflow rather than promising the same overlay controls on every broadcast method. YouTube’s live-streaming guidance
Add a static reminder in OBS
- Prepare concise text or a graphic. Use a direct prompt such as “Enjoying the stream? Subscribe.” If you use an image, keep its lettering large enough to read at the stream’s output size.
- Open the scene used for the live stream. In OBS, add the reminder as a text source or image source. The exact menu wording can vary by OBS version; select the source type matching what you created.
- Place and size it in the preview. Keep it legible without covering documentary footage, captions, credits, or other important content. Check that it remains clear in the intended output layout.
- Preview the complete scene. Confirm that the reminder is visible and correctly positioned before relying on the layout for a continuous broadcast.
For a recurring prompt, leave the static source visible in the scene. This setup does not require an alert provider because the text or image is part of the encoder’s layout.

Use a Browser Source for an event-triggered alert
OBS does not directly provide stream alerts. Its guidance explains that third-party alert overlays can be embedded in a stream using a Browser Source. OBS Project: stream alert guidance
- Choose an alert provider and verify its current YouTube support. Confirm specifically that it can detect the subscribe event you want. General support for overlays does not establish that a provider supports YouTube subscriber-triggered alerts.
- Get the overlay’s browser URL from the provider. Follow that provider’s current instructions; the OBS guidance does not prescribe a particular service or URL.
- Add a Browser Source to the streaming scene. Enter the provider’s overlay URL and use the provider’s directions for its required dimensions and settings.
- Test the overlay before the continuous stream. Use the provider’s available test function and check placement and legibility in the scene preview. Do not assume the alert will appear on a real subscription until event support and configuration are confirmed.
Keep the reminder clear and compliant
If you use YouTube’s official Subscribe Button, follow its conditions of use. You may not offer or promote prizes or rewards in exchange for clicking it; the button must be fully and clearly visible; and you may not track user data related to actions on the button, including clicks. These conditions concern the official button and its branding; they should not be misrepresented as a blanket ban on ordinary on-screen text prompts. Preview before leaving a stream unattended
Check the complete encoder scene before starting or relying on a continuous broadcast. Confirm that the reminder is visible, does not obscure essential content, and looks correct in the stream layout. The platform and OBS guidance establish overlay options, but do not specify a 24/7-specific reminder setup or certify unattended reliability.

If the stream itself is a loop of uploaded documentary videos, StreamNeo can keep that YouTube stream running from the cloud while your computer is off. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. You can still prepare the reminder as part of the video or encoder layout as appropriate; StreamNeo plays uploaded videos and does not go live from a camera.
