Its official guides cover camera and screen capture, along with scene elements such as themes, widgets, images and text. They do not document a local-video source. If a recorded clip must appear as a direct source in your YouTube broadcast, use a computer-based streaming workflow and confirm that your installed Streamlabs Desktop version offers an appropriate video-file or media source.
Can I play a video from my camera roll during a Streamlabs Mobile livestream?
Not through a prerecorded-file workflow documented by Streamlabs. The current Mobile scene guide lists options such as adding a camera, widget, Streamlabs graphic, custom item and—in the iOS workflow—screen sharing. A custom item is described as an image from the phone, a website link or custom text, not a video file. The Mobile streaming guide likewise describes camera and screen-capture controls rather than a local prerecorded-video input. Streamlabs’ scene guide and Mobile streaming guide are the relevant references.
This is a statement about Streamlabs’ documented workflow, not a claim that every app build or phone behaves identically. Screen sharing may show what is displayed on the phone, but Streamlabs’ guides do not describe using it to play a local video as a reliable or supported production method. Do not count on that approach for a scheduled broadcast without testing it thoroughly first.
What you can do in Streamlabs Mobile
Stream from the phone camera or screen
Streamlabs describes Mobile as a way to broadcast camera or screen content. On iOS, its guide says to choose whether to share the screen—such as for mobile gameplay—or use the camera. Android scene setup and the app’s streaming settings also cover camera and screen capture. These are live phone inputs, not documented playback of a stored video file. Customize a scene without adding a video file
The scene guide describes themes, guests, cameras, widgets, graphics, custom items and stream labels, with screen sharing available on iOS. Those options can shape a camera or screen-based broadcast, but their presence does not establish that Mobile can load a prerecorded video as a scene layer. How to include prerecorded footage in a YouTube livestream
If the file must appear as a direct input in your program output, investigate a computer-based workflow that supports a video-file or media source. Streamlabs presents Desktop as offering broader customization than Mobile, but the cited guides do not establish the exact current Desktop buttons or file-source steps. Check your installed Desktop version’s source menu and test the clip in a private or unlisted stream before relying on it in a public broadcast. - Confirm the source exists in your installed version. Open Streamlabs Desktop and inspect the source-adding options for a video-file or media source. Do not assume a menu label or sequence that your version does not show.
- Test the clip before going live. Verify that it appears in the intended scene and that its picture and sound are usable in the stream output. Check any transitions or scene changes that will occur while it plays.
- Set up the YouTube event in Mobile if that is part of your workflow. Streamlabs’ YouTube Mobile guide describes creating an event, scheduling one, or selecting an active event from the go-live flow. A first-time YouTube livestream setup may require phone verification and an activation wait; eligibility and account requirements can change, so check the current YouTube account interface. - Check rights and suitability. Make sure you have the rights to broadcast the footage and audio. A clip playing successfully does not establish that it complies with YouTube’s copyright rules or monetization policies.
Using an Android phone as a live source for Streamlabs Desktop
Streamlabs documents a separate Android LAN Streaming feature for sending the phone’s live camera or screen feed to Streamlabs Desktop. Both devices must be on the same Wi-Fi or Ethernet network; the guide says this does not work over the phone’s cellular connection. In Desktop, the guide instructs you to add a Media Source and use the provided LAN stream URL as its input. This bridges a live phone feed to a computer; it is not documented prerecorded-file playback. Follow Streamlabs’ Mobile LAN Streaming Source Guide for the current setup.

Troubleshooting before you go live
- You cannot find a video-file option in Mobile: the official Mobile guides do not document one. Use a computer-based workflow and inspect its available sources instead of looking for an unverified Mobile button.
- You can see the file on your phone but it is not part of the stream: viewing a video locally does not mean it is included as a scene source. Screen sharing is not described by Streamlabs as a reliable local-video playback workflow.
- The Android phone feed does not reach Desktop: confirm both devices are on the same Wi-Fi or Ethernet network and that the LAN guide’s URL is used as the Desktop Media Source input. The documented feature does not work over cellular.
- You cannot start or attach a YouTube event: check the current YouTube account interface for livestream activation or verification requirements, then use Streamlabs’ Mobile go-live flow to create, schedule or select an event.
