Spoilers for The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The film’s mid-credits scene brings Doctor Doom into the Richards family’s story: Sue finds the cloaked figure beside her son Franklin, with Doom’s mask making his identity clear. It points toward the Fantastic Four’s next MCU chapter and Avengers: Doomsday, but leaves Doom’s reason for being there unexplained.
What happens in the mid-credits scene
The scene takes place four years after the Fantastic Four’s confrontation with Galactus. Sue Storm is reading to Franklin when H.E.R.B.I.E. suggests another book. Sue leaves to get it, senses a disturbance, and returns to find a cloaked intruder beside her son.
The figure wears a green cloak and holds a Doctor Doom mask. His face is not shown, but those visual clues identify him as Doom. The Los Angeles Times and TheWrap both describe the encounter as Doom’s first MCU appearance (Los Angeles Times, July 24, 2025; TheWrap, July 27, 2025).
What the scene confirms—and what it leaves open
What is shown
- Doom is in the Richards home and close to Franklin.
- Sue senses that something is wrong and finds him beside Franklin.
- Doom’s green cloak and mask identify him, although viewers do not see his face.
What remains speculation
The scene does not explain why Doom is there, what he wants from Franklin, or what happens next. Franklin may have a significant role in the story to come, but the scene does not establish Doom’s motive or confirm that he kidnaps Franklin, intends to use his powers, or takes him to another universe. Those are theories, not events the scene reveals.

How it connects the Fantastic Four to Avengers: Doomsday
Doom is the link between the family’s story and the announced Avengers film. His appearance places a major Fantastic Four antagonist in the MCU and beside Franklin, suggesting that the team’s next chapter will intersect with the larger Avengers story. Marvel’s own 2025 article about The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Avengers: Doomsday frames the film as the team’s official induction into the MCU and discusses the quartet in connection with Doomsday.
That franchise connection is clear; the plot mechanics are not. The scene does not explain how Doom’s encounter with Franklin leads into the Avengers’ conflict, or disclose what Doom will do in Doomsday. It establishes a point of contact rather than a full preview of the next film.

Doctor Doom’s connection to the Fantastic Four
Doctor Doom is Victor von Doom, a longstanding adversary of the Fantastic Four in Marvel Comics. The Los Angeles Times identifies his comics debut as Fantastic Four No. 5 (1962). The MCU scene draws on that familiar rivalry, but it does not reveal how closely this version of Doom’s motives or history will follow the comics.
Marvel describes The Fantastic Four: First Steps as a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic story introducing Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm (Marvel’s official film page). The mid-credits scene extends that family-focused story toward the wider MCU without spelling out the transition.

Why the two credits scenes are easy to confuse
The Doom reveal is the mid-credits scene, not the film’s final after-credits sequence. A separate, later scene is an animated in-universe Fantastic Four television show. The Los Angeles Times describes it as a bonus that pays tribute to the team’s animated history; TheWrap reports that it does not tease future stories. The animated scene is a light coda, while Doom’s appearance is the one that points toward the MCU’s next chapter.
