Lucasfilm’s premise places them in a galaxy where the Empire has fallen but Imperial warlords remain; the New Republic asks the pair to help protect what the Rebellion won. Later trailers add character and story details, but those should not be mistaken for revelations in the first teaser.
When did the first trailer come out?
The official Star Wars channel dated its first teaser, titled “The Mandalorian and Grogu | Official Trailer | In Theaters May 22, 2026,” to September 22, 2025. The listing framed the project as a theatrical release, not an episode of the Disney+ series. Watch the official first teaser on YouTube.
What is the movie about?
Lucasfilm describes the film as a standalone big-screen continuation of the Disney+ series, bringing the “clan of two” to theaters for the first time. Its official synopsis sets the story after the Empire’s fall: Imperial warlords are still scattered across the galaxy, and the New Republic enlists Din Djarin and Grogu to protect the Rebellion’s victory. That is the confirmed premise; trailer imagery should not be treated as a complete account of the plot. Lucasfilm’s official film page.
What the first teaser establishes—and what later trailers add
Trailer coverage has unfolded in stages. Keeping those releases distinct makes it easier to separate the first teaser’s theatrical introduction from details disclosed later.

How does Grogu’s story develop?
In an April 29, 2026 interview, Favreau described Grogu as “coming into his own” and said Din is trusting him with more responsibility. The comment offers a useful character lens for the feature, but it is Favreau’s description of Grogu’s growth—not a scene-by-scene plot synopsis. Read the StarWars.com interview.
