Paul Teutul Sr. did not disappear after American Chopper, and he did not die in the motorcycle-crash rumor that circulated online. As of August 9, 2026, he is alive, remains identified as the owner of Orange County Choppers, and is still involved in the company’s motorcycle work and public events.

What changed is the setting. OCC moved from New York to Florida, the television franchise went through several revivals and specials, and Teutul’s business life became entangled in bankruptcy proceedings and lawsuits.

Paul Teutul Sr.’s current life in Florida

Orange County Choppers now operates from the OCC Road House & Museum at 10575 49th Street North, Clearwater, Florida 33762. The venue combines several parts of the OCC brand: a motorcycle museum, restaurant, bar, live-entertainment space, retail operation, and custom-bike activities.

The move from New York to Florida took place in March 2020, shortly before the American Chopper: The Last Ride special aired. That relocation is why older references to OCC’s Newburgh, New York, headquarters can be misleading. The business is no longer based there.

OCC’s current crew information still identifies Paul Sr. as the company’s owner. It also describes the shop as working with fabricators, designers, engineers, and manufacturers on motorcycle projects. In other words, Teutul has not simply licensed his name and retired from the motorcycle business.

What Paul Sr. does now

Teutul continues to appear at OCC promotions and motorcycle events. The company’s 2026 event calendar advertised the OCC Invitational Bike Show, held May 15–17, 2026. The event included a Sunshine Skyway ride led by Paul Sr. and a Paul Sr. Choice Award.

Joannie Kay is listed as the CEO of Orange County Choppers. According to the company’s crew page, she oversees operations while traveling with Paul Sr. and the OCC team to events. That suggests a more structured business role than the television series usually showed: Teutul remains the public face and owner, while day-to-day management is handled with executive support.

His work today is therefore a mixture of custom-bike activity, OCC appearances, event participation, and brand promotion. The television cameras are no longer the sole measure of whether he is active.

Why he became famous

Discovery introduced American Chopper in September 2002. The show followed Orange County Choppers as Teutul and his crew designed and built highly stylized motorcycles, often under tight deadlines for corporate clients, celebrities, or special events.

The series was as much about the Teutul family as it was about fabrication. Paul Sr.’s confrontations with his son, Paul Teutul Jr., became the show’s central dramatic thread. Paul Jr.’s departure from OCC led to the spinoff American Chopper: Senior vs. Junior, which followed the competing professional paths of father and son.

The family conflict made the show unusually recognizable, but it also created a misleading impression that the end of one version of the program meant the end of Paul Sr.’s career. The franchise returned in later forms, and Discovery continues to list American Chopper programming, including the 2020-era Last Ride storyline.

Did Paul Teutul Sr. quit television?

Not permanently. He returned for later American Chopper programming and has continued appearing in OCC-related media and at public events.

There was also a 2023 announcement connected to Outlaw TV for a proposed program called Senior Living. That announcement should be treated as an announced project, not proof that the show became an established, ongoing replacement for Discovery’s series. Available information does not establish a continuing run.

The accurate version is more limited: Paul Sr. has remained connected to television and motorcycle media, but American Chopper has gone through revivals, specials, and changing distribution rather than maintaining one uninterrupted run.

The bankruptcy case

Teutul filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy on February 27, 2018. A bankruptcy-law report tracking the case said the proceeding became a sale case and that creditors were expected to receive 100 percent of their allowed claims through the sale of real property.

Bankruptcy reporting is important because it explains why the later history of OCC cannot be reduced to a simple television cancellation. The company and Teutul’s personal finances were affected by property, investment, and business obligations. The eventual move to Florida also marked a major change in how OCC operated and presented itself to the public.

A bankruptcy filing does not mean that a person has died, abandoned a business, or stopped working. In Teutul’s case, the available record shows financial restructuring alongside continued involvement with OCC.

Legal disputes involving OCC and the Teutuls

Teutul’s business history has also included litigation. In April 2025, Paul Sr. sued Paul Jr. in Orange County, New York, seeking control-related relief involving Orange County Choppers. The complaint alleged misappropriation of assets and competing business activity.

Those statements were allegations contained in a lawsuit, not established findings of fact. A complaint records what the plaintiff claims; it does not by itself prove that the claims are true or indicate how a court will ultimately resolve them.

Earlier litigation involving business partner Thomas Derbyshire likewise included allegations that Teutul misused investment funds. Those claims should also be described as allegations unless confirmed by a final court ruling or other authoritative docket record.

The motorcycle-crash death rumor

A widely repeated internet claim says that Paul Teutul Sr. died in a motorcycle crash. It is false.

The rumor grew from a 2016 report about a fatal motorcycle accident in which Teutul’s name was mistakenly substituted for the actual victim’s name. Teutul publicly confirmed that he was alive. The story continued circulating because it resembled the kind of dramatic fate associated with a famous motorcycle-builder, but there is no basis for treating it as a genuine account of his death.

What happened to Orange County Choppers?

Question Accurate answer
Where is OCC based now? At the OCC Road House & Museum in Clearwater, Florida.
When did it leave New York? The relocation took place in March 2020.
Is Paul Sr. still associated with OCC? Yes. OCC identifies him as its owner.
Does OCC still build and promote motorcycles? Yes. The company continues custom-bike activities and motorcycle events.
Did Paul Sr. permanently leave television? No. He returned for later programs and specials, although not every announced project became an ongoing series.

The best description of Teutul’s present position is that he is an older, still-active figurehead and owner of a reorganized motorcycle business. OCC is no longer primarily known through a weekly Discovery series. Its Florida operation is designed as a destination venue as well as a custom-bike company, giving the brand a life outside television.

Why the story is easy to misunderstand

Several separate events are often compressed into one inaccurate headline: the end of an original television run, Paul Jr.’s departure, the bankruptcy filing, the move to Florida, later lawsuits, and the death hoax. None of those events establishes that Paul Sr. died or permanently stopped building motorcycles.

There has been a real decline from the show’s peak visibility, but reduced television exposure is not the same as disappearance. Paul Sr. remains linked to OCC, attends events, and participates in the company’s public motorcycle activities. His story after American Chopper is less a clean retirement narrative than a transition from reality-TV star to owner and promoter of a Florida-based motorcycle and entertainment business.
