Gunther’s look changed markedly in the years before his WWE main-roster debut in April 2022. A November 2022 report said he had lost almost 70 pounds after joining NXT, and Gunther later said the decision to change his physique was his own. The available figures are not a dated, verified before-and-after series, so photos show how he appeared—not an exact weight, health outcome, or the cause of the change.
How to read this photo timeline
A useful comparison starts with each image’s date and context: the event or publication, whether it is a posed portrait or an in-ring photograph, and the name he used at the time. Pose, clothing, lighting, camera angle, and framing can all affect how large a wrestler appears. They are not measurements of body composition.
The timeline below follows career eras rather than claiming that every stage of the physical change is documented. Use only images whose original event or publication date and source can be verified; an undated image should not be assigned a year from appearance alone.
Earlier independent-wrestling years: WALTER
What to look for in an earlier photo
Before his WWE main-roster era, he wrestled as WALTER. In an August 2024 interview with The Ringer, Gunther discussed his earlier identity and said he had modeled his wrestling style on larger, physically imposing wrestlers. A dated event photo from this period can establish what he looked like at that moment, but not his exact weight or when any later change began.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
When comparing an early WALTER image with a later one, first check whether both are comparable images—for example, in-ring action shots from similar angles rather than an action frame beside a carefully lit portrait. Those distinctions matter more than a broad impression from two differently produced photographs.
NXT UK and WWE developmental years
A career anchor, not a measurement
WWE’s official profile says he made his mark in NXT UK and became WWE United Kingdom Champion. It gives the reign’s length as 870 days. That milestone helps place photographs within his career, but it does not date a particular image or show when his physique changed.

USA Insider reported that the weight loss occurred after he joined NXT. The account does not provide a dated sequence of starting and ending weigh-ins, so it would be misleading to assign the reported change to one specific year or to suggest it happened all at once.
Main-roster transition: 2022
What the reported figures do—and do not—say
In an article published November 9, 2022, USA Insider described Gunther as weighing 300 pounds and reported that he had lost almost 70 pounds after joining NXT. These are figures reported by that outlet, not independently audited measurements or a dated before-and-after record.

Gunther later explained that changing his physique was a stylistic choice. In The Ringer interview, he said, “I just wanted to bring the best version of myself.” He also described his concern that his earlier look might not translate as well to a broader audience: “I always thought that wouldn’t transcend well with the audience that you can reach on the main roster, where it’s literally just in the eye of the mainstream public.”
For a photo pair around the transition, caption each frame with its own date and event. A 2022 image can show his appearance at that event; it cannot, by itself, prove the scale or timing of the loss reported by USA Insider.

Later WWE career: Gunther
Milestones and current billed stats
WWE’s current profile lists Gunther at 6 feet 4 inches and 250 pounds. Those are current billed statistics, subject to change, not measurements for his earlier career. The same profile records his Intercontinental Championship reign at 666 days and lists his 2024 King of the Ring victory and World Heavyweight Championship among his milestones. These are useful anchors for selecting later, individually dated event photos—not substitutes for a historical image archive.
Gunther reiterated that he made the decision himself in an interview with Enry Lazza, as quoted in a May 14, 2026 WrestleTalk report: “So when I went to the main roster I made the call, like you know what it’s time to change it up because there’s a difference.” He also described discipline becoming routine: “But once you manage that you beat the schweinehund basically, then yeah it becomes routine.”

What photos cannot establish
There is no exact historical measurement series in these accounts, and photographs cannot establish medical cause, body-fat percentage, surgery, drug use, or a health outcome. The most defensible visual account pairs verified, dated images with their career context and treats reported weights as attributed claims—not conclusions drawn from appearance.
