Google’s “It’s Pixel, actually” holiday commercial, released on November 24, 2025, brings back Thomas Brodie-Sangster and Martine McCutcheon from Love Actually—then turns the reunion into a joke about the Pixel 10 Pro’s advertised 100x zoom.
Watch the official “It’s Pixel, actually” ad on YouTube.
Which Love Actually actors appear?
The commercial reunites two members of the 2003 Christmas film’s cast:
| Actor | Love Actually role | Role in the ad |
|---|---|---|
| Thomas Brodie-Sangster | Sam, Daniel’s stepson | The central returning figure, who assumes people are photographing him |
| Martine McCutcheon | Natalie, from the prime-minister storyline | One of the distant subjects captured by Pixel users |
That makes this a small or partial reunion, not a return of the full Love Actually ensemble. The ad does not establish appearances by Liam Neeson, Hugh Grant, or the rest of the original cast.

What happens in “It’s Pixel, actually”?
Brodie-Sangster revisits locations and visual moments associated with Love Actually during the Christmas season. Because viewers immediately recognize him as Sam, the setup encourages them to assume that passersby are excitedly taking his picture.
The punchline is that they are not photographing him at all. Using the Pixel 10 Pro’s long-range camera capability, they are taking pictures of other subjects far away. The reported targets include McCutcheon, a child wearing a lobster costume, a dancer in the background, and—at the end—a Pixel billboard.
The joke is therefore a deliberate misdirection: Brodie-Sangster believes he is still the attraction, while the phone’s zoom lets everyone focus on something else in the distance.

How closely does it recreate the movie?
The commercial borrows Love Actually’s Christmas atmosphere, recognizable performer, and locations or visual motifs linked with the film. It plays on the audience’s familiarity with Sam rather than presenting a new chapter in his story.

The ad also does not recreate the movie’s airport gymnastics sequence.
What Pixel feature is Google promoting?
The commercial’s product message is the Pixel 10 Pro’s advertised 100x zoom. The distant subjects are the demonstration: the phone allows the people in the ad to photograph things that Brodie-Sangster’s character assumes are focused on him.

That number should be treated as an advertising claim, not as an independent camera test. “100x zoom” does not by itself mean 100x optical magnification. A phone’s maximum zoom can involve a combination of optical zoom, digital enlargement, and computational photography, and the ad does not establish sharpness, resolution, stabilization, low-light performance, or consistency at that magnification.
In other words, the commercial shows how Google wants the feature to be understood. It is not evidence that every 100x image will look equally clear in ordinary conditions.

Is it a real Love Actually reunion?
Yes—but only in the limited sense that two actors from the film appear together in a new advertisement. It is not a full cast reunion, a new installment, or a canonical sequel to Love Actually.
That distinction matters because the campaign depends on nostalgia without promising a continuation of the original movie. Google uses the audience’s instant recognition of Brodie-Sangster and McCutcheon to make the camera demonstration memorable.
Why the campaign works
The ad combines several efficient ideas: a familiar Christmas film, a recognizable returning actor, a self-aware celebrity gag, and a camera feature that can be represented visually. The audience first watches for the reunion and only then realizes that the reunion is being used to set up the zoom punchline.
The result is less a film sequel than a compact piece of nostalgia-driven product storytelling. The Love Actually references attract attention; the 100x zoom is the reason Google made the commercial.
