The 2026 Winter Olympics are no longer live. The Milano Cortina Games ran from February 6 through February 22, 2026, although some competition began before the Opening Ceremony. As of August 10, 2026, the legal free options are official highlights, selected event replays, ceremony footage, results, and archived NBC Olympics coverage.
During the Games, the best genuinely free U.S. option was an antenna receiving a local NBC station. That provided selected broadcast coverage, not every event. Existing cable, satellite, and participating live-TV customers could stream much more by signing in to NBC’s websites and apps, while Peacock was the paid option for complete coverage. No single free U.S. streaming service delivered every live event without an existing TV subscription, a temporary trial, a qualifying provider perk, or payment.

What counts as free depends on whether you mean no recurring fee, no additional charge, or temporary access. The table below separates those options.

Where to find free 2026 Olympic replays and highlights now
Start with the official NBC Olympics site and its sport-specific news and event pages. NBC continues to publish or expose some highlights, medal results, athlete stories, recaps, and selected full-event replay links. For example, its bobsled coverage page includes a mixture of stories, highlights, results, and replay-related links. Its alpine skiing page is another example of the sport-by-sport archive format.

The official Olympics YouTube channel has also posted selected ceremony replay material. Official Olympic and NBC social channels can add short clips, interviews, athlete features, and medal highlights.
There are important limits:
- Not every competition has a free full-length replay.
- A highlight may be freely available while the complete event requires authentication or a paid plan.
- Replay rights can expire, and pages can be edited or removed.
- Some replays may contain spoilers in the title, thumbnail, or description.
- NBC’s published FAQ promised full sporting-event replays on Peacock, NBCOlympics.com, NBC.com, and the NBC Sports app shortly after live broadcasts, but it specifically said Gold Zone replays would not be available.
For the most reliable free viewing, use official pages rather than search results that still describe an old event as live. Look for labels such as Replay, Highlights, or Watch now, and expect availability to differ by sport.
What the antenna option provided during the Games
An antenna receiving the local NBC affiliate was the strongest genuinely free way for a U.S. viewer to watch Olympic television. The NBC Olympics FAQ identified local NBC broadcast stations as a free over-the-air route, and the FCC describes broadcast television as free over-the-air service.
That did not mean that NBC broadcast all Olympic competition. NBC’s 2026 plan called for more than 230 hours on the broadcast network and at least five hours of daytime coverage each day. The schedule included selected live and tape-delayed skiing, snowboarding, hockey, speed skating, figure skating, and other events, along with major medal events and nightly primetime highlights.

The Opening Ceremony was scheduled for live NBC coverage at 2 p.m. Eastern on February 6, followed by primetime coverage at 8 p.m. Eastern and Pacific. NBC also planned Closing Ceremony coverage on February 22. Those dates and broadcasts are now historical, but they illustrate the type of programming an antenna supplied.
The complete schedule was distributed across NBC, Peacock, NBC’s digital platforms, USA Network, and CNBC. An antenna did not provide USA Network or CNBC, and it did not unlock Peacock’s event-by-event catalog or every simultaneous competition. NBC’s broadcast network was a selection of the Games, not all 116 medal events.

How to set up an antenna for NBC
- Check local reception first. Use a local broadcast-station locator to see whether your home can receive an NBC affiliate. Reception depends on distance, terrain, building materials, antenna quality, and placement.
- Connect the antenna. Plug its coaxial cable into the television’s antenna, RF, or broadcast input.
- Open the television’s channel settings. Choose the antenna, broadcast, or air option rather than cable.
- Run an automatic channel scan. The local NBC affiliate may appear under a virtual channel number that differs from its physical broadcast frequency.
- Test the signal. If the station is missing or breaks up, move the antenna near a window or higher location and scan again.
An indoor antenna may work well in an urban area but be unreliable in a rural, mountainous, or obstructed location. Some homes need an attic or rooftop antenna. A local NBC affiliate may also preempt or delay network programming, so even a good signal does not guarantee that every scheduled program will appear exactly as listed.
Although the broadcasts themselves were free, an antenna is not necessarily a zero-cost solution: it usually requires a one-time hardware purchase. It also cannot recreate an event after the broadcast has ended.

During the Games, viewers with eligible cable, satellite, or participating telco and live-TV subscriptions could authenticate on NBC’s digital platforms. This was free in the narrow sense that NBC did not add a separate streaming charge, but it was not free for someone without the underlying television service.
The usual process was:
- Open NBCOlympics.com, NBC.com, the NBC app, or the NBC Sports app.
- Select a live event, replay, or video marked for authenticated viewers.
- Choose Sign In, Log In, or the TV-provider authentication option.
- Select the cable, satellite, telco, or live-TV provider.
- Enter the provider account holder’s username and password.
- Return to the event page after authentication completes.
NBC said its authenticated platforms carried more than 2,500 hours of coverage, including live competition across all 16 sports and all 116 medal events. That is an important qualification to the common claim that Peacock was the only way to watch every event: Peacock was the straightforward standalone streaming service, but eligible pay-TV customers could also receive extensive—and according to NBC, complete event—access through authenticated NBC platforms during the Games.
Why NBC authentication may fail
- A broadband-only account generally is not the same as a qualifying TV-provider subscription.
- The provider may not appear in NBC’s sign-in menu.
- The account holder’s credentials may be required rather than a secondary user’s password.
- A streaming-TV service may offer a local NBC affiliate in one ZIP code but not another.
- A provider that carries NBC may not include USA Network or CNBC in the customer’s plan.
- Authentication can expire after an app update, device change, or password change.
- A provider login may unlock NBC content without unlocking every stream distributed through a separate cable network.
If an archive page asks for a provider login, use the credentials for the qualifying TV service—not merely the username for your internet connection. If the login repeatedly fails, check the provider’s channel lineup and try the browser version of the NBC site as an alternative to the app.
Free trials were a temporary live-TV workaround
Free trials were useful only during the Games and should never be treated as a permanent free option. Offers were limited by account history, ZIP code, payment method, plan, and provider channel availability. They also commonly converted to paid subscriptions automatically.

Historical examples included:
- YouTube TV’s published offer terms, which described eligibility-based 21-day, 10-day, and 5-day trials.
- DIRECTV’s streaming service, which advertised a five-day trial for eligible sign-ups.
- Hulu + Live TV, which advertised a three-day trial before its regular plan price applied.
- Other live-TV providers, including Fubo when its agreements and local channel lineup supported the needed coverage, could offer promotions that changed over time.
Those offers were not guarantees of current availability, and they cannot restore live 2026 Olympic events now that the Games are over. If a future sports event leads you to use a similar trial, follow this checklist:
- Confirm that the service carries your local NBC affiliate at your ZIP code.
- Check whether the plan includes USA Network and CNBC if those channels are needed.
- Read the current offer page to confirm eligibility, duration, payment requirements, and the billing date.
- Start the trial close enough to the desired event that it does not expire first.
- Set a calendar reminder before the trial ends.
- Cancel from the provider’s account or subscription page. Deleting the app does not cancel billing.
- Save the cancellation confirmation.
A trial may provide linear channels without reproducing Peacock’s event-by-event interface. Channel rights and streaming rights can also differ, so a live-TV trial was never a blanket promise of every Olympic stream.
Check for an included Peacock benefit
Some Xfinity and NOW customers may receive Peacock Premium through a qualifying plan, promotion, or membership tier. This is best described as no additional charge for eligible existing customers, not as universally free streaming.
To check:
- Sign in to the primary Xfinity account.
- Open the subscriptions, membership, rewards, or benefits area.
- Look for a Peacock Premium offer.
- Activate it using the same, or a properly linked, Peacock email address.
- Open the Peacock account page and confirm that the plan actually shows Premium.
- If Peacock was already being billed through another company, review that subscription separately to avoid duplicate billing.
Eligibility and activation rules can change. Consult Xfinity’s current Peacock offer instructions rather than assuming that every Xfinity customer qualifies. Even when included, the benefit is connected to a paid qualifying service.
Was Peacock free?
No. Peacock Premium was the principal U.S. streaming home for complete Milano Cortina coverage, but it required a paid Premium or Premium Plus plan unless a customer received it through an eligible provider benefit.
NBC listed Peacock Premium at $10.99 per month or $109.99 per year during the Games. Those were event-period prices and should not be treated as current pricing; plans and rates are volatile. Check the current Peacock plans page before subscribing.

Peacock’s advantage was completeness: NBC said it carried every sport, every event, and all 116 medal ceremonies live during the Games, along with replays. Its disadvantage was equally clear: it was cable-free, but not free.

Public broadcasters in their home territories carried substantial Olympic coverage. The European Broadcasting Union’s broadcaster overview listed services including BBC, RAI, ARD, ZDF, France Télévisions, NRK, RTVE, and other national outlets.

Online streams are generally geo-restricted, and rights packages differ by country, so a foreign broadcaster may not show every event. For example, BBC iPlayer is intended for viewers in the United Kingdom and is tied to a valid UK TV licence.
A foreign service being free in its licensed territory does not make it a dependable U.S. option. Do not treat a VPN as a guaranteed or universally permitted workaround: it can conflict with service terms, may not bypass a rights block reliably, and does not change the broadcaster’s territorial licensing.
Free audio and social coverage
For people who only need commentary, NBCUniversal partnered with iHeartMedia for Olympic audio coverage, including play-by-play channels and Olympic podcasts. Audio can be a useful free way to follow an event, but it is not a substitute for video.
Official NBC and Olympics social accounts can provide short clips, interviews, medal updates, athlete features, and highlights. They should not be described as a complete live-event service. Be wary of social posts promising every event through an unfamiliar link.

Common mistakes to avoid
- Calling an antenna completely free without explaining its limits. The broadcast signal is free, but the antenna may cost money, and it receives only the local NBC schedule.
- Assuming no cable means no cost. Peacock and live-TV streaming services do not require cable but generally require payment after a trial.
- Calling NBC’s websites universally free. Authenticated streams required eligible TV-provider credentials during the Games.
- Listing a trial as though it were permanent. Trial length, eligibility, price, channel lineup, and auto-renewal terms change.
- Assuming every NBC affiliate carries the same schedule. Local preemptions, signal problems, and regional channel availability can affect access.
- Using unofficial stream aggregators. Pop-up-heavy sports sites, suspicious browser extensions, malware links, and stolen streams are not safe or dependable legal alternatives.
- Trusting an old live-event page. Search results can continue showing outdated Olympic pages after coverage has ended.
Do not confuse the Olympics with the Winter Paralympics
The Olympic Winter Games and Winter Paralympic Games were separate events. The 2026 Winter Paralympics ran from March 6 through March 15, 2026, after the Olympics ended. A page or schedule about the Paralympics is not an Olympic replay listing. The dates for the Olympic Games are documented by the Olympics support center.
