Fox streamed Super Bowl LIX live on Tubi in the United States on February 9, 2025. The stream required no paid subscription, cable package, TV-provider authentication, or credit card, but viewers did need a free Tubi account, a compatible device, and an internet connection. It was ad-supported, geographically limited, and offered live rather than full-game replay access.
The event has ended. Tubi’s 2025 stream should not be confused with a permanent promise that every Super Bowl will be free on Tubi.
Which Super Bowl was streamed free on Tubi?
The announcement referred to Super Bowl LIX, played on Sunday, February 9, 2025, between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. Fox carried the national English-language broadcast, with kickoff at 6:30 p.m. ET. The NFL’s viewing information confirmed the game time and official viewing options.
Fox’s January 15, 2025 announcement made Super Bowl LIX the first Super Bowl streamed live on Tubi as part of a special Fox Sports takeover. The Associated Press reported the original announcement, which quickly generated headlines saying Fox would stream the Super Bowl “free for everyone.”

That headline was directionally correct but technically incomplete. The stream was free from subscription fees and pay-TV authentication, but it was available only in the United States, required a free Tubi account, depended on compatible hardware and internet access, included advertising, and was offered live rather than as a full replay.
What Fox actually offered
Fox Sports supplied the game telecast, while Fox Corporation’s free, ad-supported streaming service, Tubi, carried a dedicated Super Bowl presentation. It was not an announcement that every future Super Bowl would be free on Tubi.
The Tubi event was planned as a broader programming takeover that included:
- Fox’s Super Bowl LIX pregame coverage
- A Tubi-produced red-carpet pre-show hosted by Olivia Culpo
- The live Fox game telecast
- Halftime coverage and the same main event viewers saw on Fox
- Postgame programming, including the planned premiere of The Z-Suite
Fox Sports described the stream as unauthenticated and promoted 4K availability on compatible devices. “Unauthenticated” meant viewers did not have to prove that they subscribed to a cable, satellite, or live-TV service.
What “free” meant in practice
| Requirement | Was it required? |
|---|---|
| Tubi subscription | No |
| Cable or satellite package | No |
| TV-provider authentication | No |
| Credit card | No |
| Free Tubi account and sign-in | Yes |
| Internet connection | Yes |
| Compatible app, browser, or device | Yes |
| Advertisements | Yes |
Viewers had to create or sign in to a free Tubi account. The event was therefore not anonymous viewing. The account did not require a paid subscription or credit card, but registration was still part of the process. Contemporaneous coverage also reported that the stream carried the Super Bowl advertising presentation shown on television.
Tubi’s advertising model also meant that “free” did not mean commercial-free. The stream carried ads as part of the broadcast experience; the technical presentation from Fox said those ads were part of the Fox stream rather than separate advertising inserted by Tubi.

Tubi’s historical support information listed web viewing and apps for Android, iOS, Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Samsung televisions, LG televisions, Vizio, Google TV, Xbox One, and Comcast devices. Ordinary Tubi availability on a device did not necessarily guarantee that the special live event or its 4K feed would be supported there.

Those version numbers were requirements for the 2025 event, not current Tubi specifications in 2026. Tubi’s support page contains the historical device, account, caption, schedule, and troubleshooting details.
Was the stream really in 4K?
Yes, but only for viewers with the right setup. A 4K television by itself was not enough. Tubi identified compatible Fire TV, Roku, Android TV, and tvOS devices, while contemporaneous reporting citing Fox identified 4K Roku devices, 4K Fire TV devices, Android TV, and Apple TV 4K as supported categories.
Viewers needed:
- A 4K television or display
- A compatible 4K streaming device
- A 4K-capable HDMI cable and connection
- Sufficient internet bandwidth and a stable connection
A contemporaneous TV-technology report described the presentation as upscaled 4K, rather than necessarily a native 4K production. That distinction matters: an upscaled feed can look sharper than HD, but it does not contain the same native detail as footage produced and delivered entirely in 4K.
Viewers on unsupported smart-TV platforms could still watch the free stream in HD. If 4K playback caused problems, switching to HD was the practical fallback.
What was the schedule?
The main game began at 6:30 p.m. ET. Fox’s pregame programming began at approximately 11:00 a.m. ET, and Tubi’s red-carpet show was scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET. The planned postgame premiere of The Z-Suite was listed for approximately 10:30 p.m. ET.
Tubi’s help page showed a 6:00 p.m. ET game slot, which could cause confusion. That was a platform listing or pregame slot; the official NFL and Fox kickoff time was 6:30 p.m. ET.
Language, captions, and regional limits
English and Spanish coverage
The safest description of the Tubi presentation is that the primary stream was English-language. Tubi’s own support documentation said the Super Bowl LIX stream on Tubi was English only and directed Spanish-language viewers to Fox Deportes or Telemundo.

- HDMI 2.1 cable required (sold separately)

However, Fox-related announcements and contemporaneous coverage described a second Tubi stream carrying the Fox Deportes Spanish-language feed. Tubi also retained a Spanish-language Super Bowl LIX listing, although that page now says the content is unavailable and does not establish exactly how the feed was presented during the live event.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Because the public documentation conflicted, viewers seeking Spanish coverage were better served by checking Fox Deportes or Telemundo rather than assuming that a Spanish Tubi stream would appear. Fox Deportes published its own Spanish-language viewing information.
Captions
Tubi said English closed captions were available through the player’s CC control. The available event documentation did not establish Spanish captions or audio-description availability.
United States availability
The free Tubi arrangement was a U.S. rights deal, not a worldwide stream. Tubi’s presence in other countries did not mean that Super Bowl LIX rights were available there. Sports rights are territorial, so international viewers needed to use their local broadcaster or authorized streaming-rights holder.
DAZN announced NFL Game Pass availability in territories outside the United States and China, but exact services, prices, and availability varied by country. A VPN was not a dependable normal solution: it could conflict with platform terms, fail geographic checks, and would not change the underlying rights arrangement.
Was it also free on Fox.com or the Fox Sports app?
Tubi was the clearly documented free streaming destination created for cord-cutters. Fox also broadcast the game on television, and Fox’s broader materials referred to additional NFL digital distribution. That does not automatically establish that Fox.com or the Fox Sports app offered the same free, unauthenticated stream to every viewer.
The practical distinction was:
- Tubi: the newly announced free streaming home for the event in the United States
- Fox: the national television broadcast
- Fox Deportes and Telemundo: Spanish-language television options
- Other official NFL digital outlets: availability depended on the specific service and rights terms
What if Tubi did not work?
Tubi’s recommended troubleshooting path was straightforward:

- Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, so you can switch from streaming to gaming with ease. Plus, it’s designed to stay hidden behind your TV, keeping wires neatly out of sight
- Confirm that the viewer was in the eligible U.S. service area.
- Confirm that the free Tubi account was signed in.
- Update the Tubi app and the device operating system.
- Refresh the app or restart the streaming device.
- Check the internet connection and reduce competing network use.
- Try the web player or another supported device.
- For 4K failures, switch to HD or use a supported Roku, Fire TV, Android TV, or Apple TV 4K device.
- If the problem continued, use a local Fox broadcast or an authorized live-TV provider.
Tubi advised contacting customer support with the device ID if the event still would not play. A smart TV that had the regular Tubi app could still lack support for the special event, so trying a supported external streaming device was a sensible test.
Latency and reliability
Streaming was not guaranteed to match an antenna or cable broadcast frame-for-frame. In a post-event technical presentation, Fox reported that Tubi on iOS over 5G ran approximately one second behind over-the-air television in its tested configuration. Fox also reported a 0.5% rebuffering rate, startup times of more than one second, and a peak concurrent audience of 15.5 million.
Recommended Free Tools
These were Fox’s platform-specific measurements, not a promise for every household. Wi-Fi quality, internet congestion, device processing, app version, and display setup could change both delay and reliability. For viewers who wanted the lowest delay—particularly those following social media or live betting—the local Fox station received by antenna was generally the safer choice when reception was strong.

| Viewer need | Best option | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| No cable or paid subscription | Tubi | Free account, internet, ads, and supported-device limits |
| Lowest delay | Local Fox station via antenna | Requires adequate local reception |
| 4K streaming | Tubi on supported 4K hardware | Limited platform support; reportedly upscaled |
| Spanish-language coverage | Fox Deportes or Telemundo | Availability depended on provider and location |
| Outside the U.S. | Local rights holder or NFL Game Pass/DAZN where offered | Rights and prices varied by country |
| Several live channels | YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, Fubo, or similar services | Paid service; trial terms were date-specific |
Prices and free-trial offers for paid services change frequently, so historical promotional terms should not be treated as current pricing. The key advantage of those services was access to a broader live-TV package, while Tubi’s advantage was avoiding a subscription altogether.
Was there a replay?
No full-game replay was promised on Tubi. The Super Bowl stream was live-only. The Tubi Red Carpet program was later made available on demand in the United States, but that did not mean the complete game remained available as a replay. Tubi’s event support page explicitly distinguished the live game from later on-demand programming.
What happened after Super Bowl LIX?
Tubi reported that the game reached a 13.6 million average-minute audience and a 15.5 million peak concurrent audience. Across its game-day programming, Tubi reported more than 24 million unique viewers. Those figures came from Tubi’s post-event reporting.

The NFL separately reported that Super Bowl LIX averaged 127.7 million U.S. viewers across television and streaming, and attributed approximately 13.6 million viewers to Tubi using Tubi first-party and Adobe Analytics data. The NFL’s report explains its audience measurement. These figures should not be treated as interchangeable: Tubi’s average-minute, peak-concurrency, unique-viewer, and NFL/Nielsen-style audience measures describe different things.

As of August 10, 2026, Super Bowl LIX is over and the Tubi event is no longer live. Tubi’s current Super Bowl page labels the event as ended.
Did Fox stream the next Super Bowl free on Tubi?
No. Super Bowl LX, played on February 8, 2026, was carried by NBC and Peacock rather than Fox and Tubi. The Tubi arrangement was specific to Super Bowl LIX and did not create a permanent free-Super-Bowl policy.
The NFL’s announced broadcast rotation also places Super Bowl LXI in 2027 with ABC and ESPN. The NFL’s broadcast-deal announcement and ABC’s Super Bowl LXI announcement show why future games must be checked individually.

No. Tubi offered the game live only. Some surrounding programming, including the Tubi Red Carpet show, was later available on demand.
The Bottom Line
Fox did stream Super Bowl LIX free on Tubi in the United States, but “free for everyone” meant free of subscription and pay-TV authentication—not worldwide, anonymous, ad-free, device-independent, or replayable. Viewers needed a free account, internet access, and a supported device; 4K was limited to selected hardware.
