Netflix’s 2025 movie slate included major sequels, literary adaptations, animated features, international productions and documentary projects. Because the year is now complete, this is a retrospective guide to Netflix originals and Netflix-distributed feature films that were released or announced for 2025—not every licensed movie added to the service.
Release dates and rights can vary by country. Netflix also notes that a title may be an original in one territory but unavailable, licensed or distributed differently in another. Where the supplied announcements gave only a month, season or “2025” window, that uncertainty is preserved rather than presented as a confirmed date.

Important: An early slate date is not automatically a final date. Netflix’s own announcement sometimes supplied only seasonal windows, and several films later received new titles, revised schedules or no clearly verified 2025 date in the available material.
January through March
Back in Action
This Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx action comedy appeared in the early 2025 slate, but the source article lists January 17, 2024—a date that conflicts with its 2025 framing. That date should not be treated as a reliable 2025 release date without a final Netflix title-page confirmation.

April through June
The Electric State
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and starring Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt, The Electric State is set in an alternate 1994 shaped by conflict between humans and robots. It is based on Simon Stålenhag’s illustrated science-fiction book. The supplied Netflix announcement identifies it as one of the company’s major 2025 films, while the early slate material does not provide a final date here.
Havoc
Gareth Evans directed this action thriller starring Tom Hardy. Netflix initially described its timing as spring 2025; early coverage listed April 25. The latter should be treated as an early listing unless confirmed by Netflix’s final release information.

Matt Palmer’s horror film returns to Shadyside High for a story set during a 1988 prom. Netflix announced a summer 2025 window, while early slate coverage listed May 23.
Nonnas
Stephen Chbosky directed this comedy starring Vince Vaughn, Susan Sarandon and Linda Cardellini. Netflix confirmed May 9, 2025.
July through September
The Old Guard 2
Charlize Theron leads the sequel to Netflix’s immortal-warrior action film. Netflix’s January 2025 announcement gave an “On Netflix July 2” date.
Madea’s Destination Wedding
Tyler Perry’s eleventh Madea movie was announced for 2025. Early coverage listed July 11.
Happy Gilmore 2
Adam Sandler returned for the sequel to his golf comedy, directed by Kyle Newacheck. Early slate coverage listed July 25, and Netflix highlighted the movie at its 2025 Tudum event.

Frankenstein
Guillermo del Toro adapted Mary Shelley’s classic, with Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth and Christoph Waltz among the announced cast. Netflix gave the film a November 2025 window. It should be classified as a theatrical-plus-Netflix release rather than a Netflix-only premiere.
Jay Kelly
Originally announced as an untitled Noah Baumbach project, the film was later named Jay Kelly. George Clooney, Adam Sandler and Laura Dern star. Netflix initially announced a fall 2025 window; early coverage listed December 5.
Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery
Often called “Knives Out 3,” the film is officially titled Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. Rian Johnson returned to direct the third Benoit Blanc mystery, with Daniel Craig reprising the role. Netflix confirmed a global premiere on December 12, 2025.

Thrillers, dramas and adaptations
- A House of Dynamite: Kathryn Bigelow’s film was initially announced without a title for fall 2025. The later title announcement identified a cast including Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson, Gabriel Basso and Jared Harris.
- The Woman in Cabin 10: An adaptation of Ruth Ware’s novel starring Keira Knightley and Guy Pearce; Netflix announced a fall 2025 window.
- The Ballad of a Small Player: Edward Berger’s adaptation of Lawrence Osborne’s novel, starring Colin Farrell and Tilda Swinton. No precise date was supplied in the early slate material.
- Night Always Comes: Benjamin Caron’s adaptation of Willy Vlautin’s novel, starring Vanessa Kirby; no precise date was supplied.
- People We Meet on Vacation: Emily Henry’s novel was adapted with Emily Bader and Tom Blyth; the early listing did not provide a confirmed date.
Animation and family films
- In Your Dreams: An animated family adventure from filmmakers associated with Over the Moon and The Sea Beast; no definitive date was supplied.
- K-Pop: Demon Hunters: An animated fantasy about a K-pop girl group living double lives as demon hunters.
- Pookoo: A Skydance Animation buddy comedy involving a woodland creature and a bird; no precise date was supplied.
- The Twits: Phil Johnston directed this animated adaptation of Roald Dahl’s book.
International and non-English Netflix films
A worldwide Netflix list cannot stop at English-language studio-style releases. The 2025 slate also included international productions such as Ad Vitam, The Sand Castle, Lucca’s World, Demon City, 10Dance, The Great Flood, Abadi Nan Jaya, Bad Boa’s, Bullet Train Explosion, French Lover, An Honest Life and iHostage. Their availability and final timing can differ by territory, so they should be checked through the local Netflix title page rather than assumed to have had an identical global premiere.

Netflix’s Korean film preview separately highlighted Revelations, Good News, The Great Flood, Wall to Wall, Love Untangled, Mantis and Lost in Starlight. These titles show why “every Netflix movie” requires a geography and definition note: a regional slate announcement is not the same thing as a complete worldwide catalog.
Documentary and nonfiction projects
Netflix’s January showcase also announced feature projects including Chaos: The Manson Murders, Eddie and Pangolin: Kulu’s Journey, alongside additional film projects such as RIP, Straw, A Merry Little Ex-Christmas and Air Force Elite: Thunderbirds. The supplied material does not provide final release dates for each title, so they belong in the “announced” portion of the record unless a final Netflix release can be verified.
What is—and is not—a Netflix movie?
- Netflix original: A film Netflix produced, commissioned or distributes under its original-film program. The designation may vary by country.
- Netflix premiere: The film first becomes publicly available on Netflix.
- Netflix streaming release: A film may have premiered at a festival or in theaters before arriving on Netflix.
- Licensed addition: An existing studio film added to Netflix’s catalog. These titles are not part of this original-film slate.
This guide excludes the enormous number of licensed catalog additions, television films and specials unless Netflix identifies them as feature films. It also does not treat an announcement for “2025” as proof that a title ultimately premiered during that calendar year.
How Netflix release dates work
Netflix says originals generally become available at 12:00 a.m. Pacific Time, although launch times can vary. The title’s Netflix detail page and the service’s “Coming Soon” section are the practical final references for a viewer. Local release dates, rights and catalog placement may differ outside the United States.
