The Amazing Race advertises a $1 million prize for the winning team. That is not the same as a guaranteed paycheck for every contestant: current public CBS pages do not state a standard fee or stipend for nonwinners.
What does the winning team receive?
CBS says the first team to reach the final destination in Season 39 will be declared the winner and take home the $1 million prize. That figure is the advertised grand prize for the winning team, not a published payment rate for everyone who takes part. CBS’s show page
Do nonwinning contestants get paid?
The official public pages cited here do not disclose a current standard appearance fee, stipend, or reimbursement for contestants who do not win. That absence does not establish that no contestant receives any payment under any circumstance; it means a universal current amount cannot be verified from those pages. A prize for winning also does not, by itself, prove that every participant receives compensation.
The show’s older CBS-affiliated eligibility document describes approximately four weeks of travel and a $1,000,000 prize, but it is not a current contestant contract or a statement of present-day nonwinner pay. CBS-affiliated eligibility document

Why can taking part still have a financial cost?
Time away from work can affect the net financial outcome, even if a contestant has a chance to win. Season 21 contestant Mark “Abba” Abbattista told Men’s Health: “If mom and dad are going away and not getting paid for that period of time, and they don’t win, you’re not compensating yourself with that money.” His comment is an individual participant’s observation, not a statement of current show policy or a universal account of contestants’ finances.
