Saturday, April 13, 2024—the second day of Coachella’s first weekend—paired No Doubt’s long-awaited reunion with Ice Spice’s crowd-engaging Sahara Tent set and Tyler, the Creator’s theatrical first turn as a festival headliner. These were three distinct highlights from a broad lineup that also included Blur, Sublime and many others, not an objective ranking of the day.
When and where was Coachella 2024 Day 2?
Weekend 1’s Day 2 was Saturday, April 13, at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. The festival ran across two weekends: April 12–14 and April 19–21, 2024, according to the Associated Press. The performances described here are from the first Saturday, not the following weekend.
The lineup put Tyler, the Creator in the headlining role and brought No Doubt back together; Ice Spice was among the other notable performers. The Recording Academy’s lineup report outlined the bill before the festival.
What made No Doubt’s reunion a Saturday highlight?
No Doubt played its first show together in nine years, Rolling Stone reported. Gwen Stefani opened with “Keep On Dancing,” then led a set centered on the group’s familiar catalog. “Don’t Speak,” “Just a Girl,” “Underneath It All” and “Hey Baby” were among the reported highlights. Stefani greeted the crowd with, “I didn’t think this was really gonna happen, did you?”

The Los Angeles Times described Stefani as energetic onstage with strong vocals, while its account and the Rolling Stone report both emphasized the classics-focused nature of the set.
How did Ice Spice connect with the Sahara Tent crowd?
The Los Angeles Times described the Sahara Tent as packed for Ice Spice. One crowd-response moment came when concertgoers joined the chorus of Taylor Swift’s “Karma,” which features Ice Spice. Separately, the Recording Academy reported that Ice Spice debuted a new song sampling Sean Paul’s 2005 track “Gimme the Light.” Together, the moments placed a new musical reveal alongside a familiar collaboration that the audience could sing back.

What set Tyler, the Creator’s headlining show apart?
Tyler, the Creator’s first Coachella headline set turned the main stage into a shifting desert scene. The Los Angeles Times described a trailer entrance, a giant sheep puppet and a simulated windstorm among the production’s striking elements. The Recording Academy characterized the performance as an 80-minute set, with the staging changing around Tyler as the show unfolded.
The guest appearances widened the set’s reach across Tyler’s career and collaborations: Donald Glover, performing as Childish Gambino, A$AP Rocky, Charlie Wilson and Kali Uchis joined him. The Recording Academy recap and the Los Angeles Times live coverage describe the guests and the evolving production.

Why these three performances define different sides of Day 2
No Doubt’s set drew its force from reunion and familiar songs; Ice Spice’s from a current rap performance meeting an engaged crowd; and Tyler’s from theatrical scale and a sequence of high-profile guests. Their connection was less a shared sound than the way each made the festival stage work differently: as a return, a live exchange with the audience, or a constructed spectacle.
