Apple released a special haptic trailer for F1 The Movie that uses an iPhone’s Taptic Engine to deliver vibrations synchronized with engine sounds, gear changes, curbs, cockpit action, and other racing moments. It is an iPhone-only trailer experience—not a haptic version of the complete film.
What Apple released
The haptic trailer launched on June 11, 2025, inside the Apple TV app for iPhone. Apple describes it as a first-of-its-kind iPhone haptic trailer experience, with the promotional language attributed to Apple rather than treated as an independently verified industry record.
Unlike a normal trailer, which communicates the race through pictures and sound alone, this version adds carefully timed physical feedback. When the cars accelerate, change gear, ride over curbs, or move through racing sequences, the iPhone can produce corresponding pulses through its built-in Taptic Engine.
Apple says the haptic sequences were designed frame by frame, as deliberately as other parts of the film’s sound and visual design. The phone is not listening to the engine audio and generating vibrations in real time. The tactile effects are authored as part of the playback experience.

Apple’s film information page, its App Store editorial, and the company’s official promotional video describe the experience.
How to watch the haptic trailer
- Use an iPhone with the Apple TV app.
- Update the phone to iOS 18.4 or later. That is the minimum version identified in Apple’s editorial for the experience.
- Open the Apple TV app and search for F1 The Movie.
- Open the film’s page and look for the haptic-trailer experience or its promotional trailer card.
- Hold the iPhone normally while the trailer plays so the Taptic Engine can be felt.
Keep system haptics enabled. A thick case, a soft surface, or a loose grip can make short pulses harder to notice. The effect is designed to be nuanced rather than a continuous, powerful rumble.
Apple’s current film page still describes the haptic trailer as of August 18, 2026, but promotional placements can change. Apple also notes that content and features vary by country, region, device, and app version. The exact placement may therefore differ between users.

If the trailer does not appear
First update iOS and the Apple TV app, then search for the full title rather than relying only on the Home tab. Open the film page directly, restart the app, and sign in again if necessary. You can also try opening Apple’s current film page from the iPhone.

The trailer is not documented as a feature for Apple TV 4K, smart TVs, web browsers, iPads, or Android devices.
If the video plays but the iPhone does not vibrate
- Confirm that the item is the haptic trailer rather than the standard trailer.
- Check that the iPhone is running iOS 18.4 or later.
- Verify that ordinary system haptics work elsewhere on the phone.
- Temporarily remove or loosen a thick case.
- Hold the phone in your hand rather than placing it on a soft surface.
- Close and relaunch the Apple TV app.
A weak effect is not automatically a fault. The trailer uses varied, short pulses rather than trying to simulate the sustained force of an F1 car, a subwoofer, or a racing simulator. People with reduced tactile sensitivity may also notice less of the effect.

Is the entire movie haptic?
No. Apple’s materials distinguish between the standard feature film and the separate haptic trailer. There is no evidence that the full movie has synchronized iPhone vibrations throughout its runtime.
The full film is available through Apple TV, with availability through subscription, purchase, or rental depending on the market and storefront. The haptic trailer’s access requirement should not be assumed to be identical to the full film’s access requirements. Apple’s general subscription guidance is available through Apple Support.

Similarly, playing the regular trailer through a television, browser, AirPlay destination, or Apple TV 4K may preserve the video and audio, but it should not be expected to reproduce the iPhone-specific tactile track. The vibrations are authored for the iPhone’s Taptic Engine.

What the haptics can—and cannot—reproduce
The trailer can make racing moments feel more immediate by adding precisely timed tactile cues. It does not physically recreate an F1 power unit or measure engine vibration through the phone. “Feel the engine roar” is useful descriptive language, but the sensation comes from programmed pulses, not from a miniature racing engine inside the device.
The experience is best understood as a short demonstration of tactile storytelling. It may appeal to iPhone owners interested in mobile haptics, immersive video, or unusual film promotion. It is not a replacement for a home-theater subwoofer, a racing cockpit, or force feedback from a wheel or controller. Those alternatives can provide more intensity or interactivity, but they do not reproduce Apple’s authored trailer effects.

Joseph Kosinski directed it, with Jerry Bruckheimer and seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton among the credited producers. The international theatrical rollout began June 25, 2025, followed by the U.S. theatrical release on June 27. Apple announced the film’s global streaming debut for December 12, 2025. The original film announcement and streaming announcement provide the release details.
Do you need an Apple TV subscription?
Do not assume that trying the promotional trailer requires buying or renting the movie. The cited Apple materials do not establish a universal requirement, and access can vary by market and current app placement. Subscription, rental, and purchase options for the full film are separate questions.
Apple’s March 2025 press material listed Apple TV at $12.99 per month with a seven-day free trial for new subscribers, but that is a historical price signal—not a confirmed price for August 2026. Check the current offer in your region before subscribing.
If you already own a compatible iPhone, it is sensible to update iOS and look for the trailer before considering a subscription or new hardware. Buying an iPhone solely for a short promotional experience is difficult to justify.

The practical verdict
Apple’s F1 The Movie haptic trailer is a clever, limited experiment: a short video that adds frame-synchronized tactile effects to the familiar sights and sounds of Formula 1. Try it if you have an iPhone running iOS 18.4 or later and the Apple TV app exposes the promotional item in your region. Just do not mistake it for a full haptic edition of the movie—or for the sustained physical force of real racing hardware.
