What the $2.99 offer included
Apple announced the promotion on February 3, 2025, as part of its campaign around Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl LIX halftime show. It offered six months of Apple Music for one $2.99 payment—not $2.99 each month. Apple described the audience as “new and eligible subscribers”; the offer was associated with the Individual plan. Apple’s announcement confirms the promotion was official. Contemporary coverage reported that it was available in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada and that redemption ended February 27, 2025. The offer is no longer redeemable. An old headline, email or screenshot advertising it does not mean Apple still honors it.
Who was eligible—and why the offer might not have appeared
New subscribers were the target audience, but Apple applied additional eligibility checks. Its public announcement did not spell out every condition, so it would be inaccurate to say that every first-time user qualified. Contemporary reports noted that previous subscribers or people eligible for another Apple promotion, such as a device-based trial, might not be eligible.

For the 2025 offer, reports specified redemption through Apple Music on an iPhone or iPad running iOS 16 or later, a Mac running macOS 13 or later, or Apple Vision Pro. Those were requirements reported for that expired promotion, not verified requirements for Apple’s current offer. The offer could also be unavailable because of the account’s country or storefront, an existing subscription billed by Apple or another provider, or account-specific eligibility. If a current offer does not appear, check that you are signed into the Apple Account used for Media & Purchases and review Apple’s official offer page. Do not create a second account to bypass eligibility: purchases, library access, subscriptions and Family Sharing can become split across accounts.

How the original promotion was redeemed
These are historical instructions for the 2025 deal; its redemption deadline has passed. Contemporary reports directed eligible users to:
- Open the Apple Music app on a supported device and sign in with the relevant Apple Account.
- Open the Home tab and look for the promotional banner. It was described with wording such as “Get 6 months for $2.99.”
- Select the offer and follow the subscription prompts.
- Before confirming, check the amount due, the renewal price and the next billing date shown at checkout.

Renewal price and how to avoid an unwanted charge
The subscription renewed automatically unless canceled. Contemporary coverage listed the post-promotion Individual-plan price as $10.99 per month at the time. Apple’s U.S. page lists $11.99 per month for Individual as of August 18, 2026; that current price should not be mistaken for the historical renewal price. The amount charged can depend on region, billing provider and the terms presented to the subscriber.
For subscriptions billed by Apple, use Apple’s current cancellation instructions. On iPhone or iPad, go to Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Apple Music → Cancel Subscription. On Mac, open the App Store, click your name, choose Account Settings, find Subscriptions, then select Apple Music and cancel. Apple advises canceling a discounted or free trial at least 24 hours before it ends to avoid renewal. Check the expiration date displayed in your account; canceling immediately can affect access depending on the offer’s terms. Apple’s cancellation guide has the current steps.

If you subscribed through Google Play, a mobile carrier or another provider, cancel through that billing provider instead. If the price at checkout differs from the offer you expected, do not submit payment until you have reviewed the terms. If you accepted an offer but see incorrect billing, identify who billed you and contact that provider or Apple Support.

Apple’s Apple Music page describes the plans and service. Apple Music supports ad-free listening, offline downloads, lossless audio and Spatial Audio, and includes Apple Music Classical. It is available beyond Apple devices, including Android, Windows and other platforms; however, a promotion’s redemption route may have different requirements. Subscription downloads are access to catalog tracks, not permanent purchases: tracks downloaded through the subscription generally require an active subscription to play.

Choosing whether to subscribe
- Check eligibility first. A promotion shown after signing in is more relevant than an old deal page. Read the precise price, duration and renewal terms before accepting.
- Choose the plan for the listeners. Family may make sense for a household using Family Sharing; Student requires eligibility verification. Apple One is worth considering only if you would use several of its included services.
- Consider your listening setup. Apple highlights lossless and Spatial Audio, which may matter with compatible equipment. Apple-device integration, Siri, CarPlay and Apple Music Classical may also be useful.
- Weigh the ongoing subscription against your habits. A temporary discount does not make a subscription a good fit if you already prefer another service’s recommendations or playlists, or do not want a recurring charge.
