The nine releases most likely to start a conversation
The Whisper Man — August 28
What it is: A Netflix crime-thriller film starring Robert De Niro and Adam Scott. When a crime writer’s son is abducted, he turns to his estranged, retired-detective father; the search connects to an old serial-killer case. The cast also includes Michelle Monaghan, Michael Keaton, John Carroll Lynch, Owen Teague and Hamish Linklater. Netflix lists the film for August 28 in its summer slate; the plot and cast details appear in TV Guide’s Netflix listings.
Why it may get people talking: A missing-child investigation, a buried case and two generations of detectives make for an easy-to-pitch weekend thriller, while the cast gives it broad name recognition.

M3GAN — August 24
What it is: The 2022 science-fiction horror comedy, newly listed for Netflix US—not a Netflix original. A robotics expert gives her orphaned niece an advanced AI doll, whose protective behavior turns dangerous. The US date and licensed status are listed in What’s on Netflix’s August calendar.
Why it may get people talking: M3GAN’s distinctive look and the premise’s collision of artificial intelligence, caregiving and horror lend themselves to reactions, memes and arguments about where “helpful” technology becomes frightening.
Before you watch: This is a standalone feature; no previous viewing is needed. It suits horror-comedy fans more than viewers looking for a serious technology documentary.

Why it may get people talking: A returning serialized drama has a ready-made audience for character debates, cliffhanger reactions and spoiler-heavy group chats.
Before you watch: This is a continuation, not an entry point. Start with the earlier seasons if you want the relationships and story stakes to land. Best for viewers already invested in the show’s high-stakes drama.
Revival — August 24
What it is: A new supernatural horror-noir series. Its published premise places the story in rural Wisconsin, where the dead return looking normal rather than like conventional zombies. The title and date appear in the August US release calendar.
Why it may get people talking: The unsettling question is not simply how the dead came back, but what it means when they appear unchanged. That setup invites theories and comparisons with other resurrection mysteries.
Before you watch: It is listed as a new series, so no prior seasons are needed. Best for viewers who enjoy supernatural mysteries with a small-town, crime-story feel; the premise is a hook, not a guarantee of how the show will develop.

What it is: A sports-documentary installment in Netflix’s Untold series, focused on former NFL quarterback Vince Young. It is listed for August 25 in the August US release calendar.

Season 2 on August 24; Martha Cooks, Rhythm + Flow France Season 5, Stamptown and Untold: The Testimony of Vince Young on August 25; Beauty in Black Season 3, Gin Tama: Yoshiwara in Flames, Grand Theft Auto VI Extended Look and Leanne Season 2 on August 27; and Graveyard Season 3 and Mousetrap on August 28. These are listed in What’s on Netflix’s calendar; the Grand Theft Auto VI Extended Look is a game-related promotional special rather than a conventional film or series. August 26 listings are inconsistent across calendars, so this watchlist does not treat that day’s titles as confirmed picks.
How to keep track of dates and availability
Netflix says its new-title rows and catalog availability can differ by country and device. For the US account you plan to watch on, check Netflix’s Coming Soon or New & Popular sections, and open the title page to confirm its date and local listing. Netflix explains country-specific availability and discovery rows in its availability help page. For titles shown as upcoming, the service may offer Remind Me; Netflix says a title can appear again with a revised date if its schedule changes. See Netflix’s reminder instructions.
