Most classic Discord music-bot lists are outdated: some well-known services disappeared, while surviving bots changed their commands, source support and paid limits. This retrospective 2025 roundup was checked against official pages and Discord listings on August 18, 2026. For most servers, Jockie Music is the best all-round choice; Chip is the strongest free-first alternative.
Availability, YouTube extraction, playlist limits and premium features can change quickly, so treat the links below as the current reference rather than a permanent guarantee.

How these recommendations were judged
“Best” here is a use-case recommendation, not an independent reliability benchmark. The practical criteria are current official availability, documentation quality, installation friction, slash-command support, source compatibility, playlist and queue controls, free-versus-paid boundaries, moderation controls, permission scope and recovery options.

Source support needs careful reading. A Spotify URL may identify a track, import a playlist or provide metadata that the bot resolves to playable audio elsewhere; it does not automatically mean the bot rebroadcasts Spotify’s stream. Likewise, a YouTube link can be accepted but fail during extraction because of regional blocking or platform enforcement.
The seven bots
1. Jockie Music — best overall
Jockie Music’s Discord App Directory listing reports availability in approximately 9 million servers. Its strongest practical advantage is flexibility: multiple bot instances can serve different voice channels, while Spotify and Apple Music playlist workflows and extensive queue controls suit larger communities.
- Spotify playlists load 100 tracks at a time, with additional pages available through a page option.
- Apple Music playlists currently load only the first 100 tracks, according to its FAQ.
- Free users can have up to 50 collections; premium raises that to 200.
- The FAQ states that 24/7 playback requires five Jockie Music boosts.
Jockie supports slash and prefix commands. If you need to discover the current prefix, its documentation shows a mention-based command such as @Jockie Music prefix list. Generic slash examples include /play song name, /queue and /skip; confirm the menu in your server before relying on a specific command.
Trade-off: the App Directory invite reports a very broad permission scope, including Administrator. Review and reduce permissions where practical; a requested scope is not proof that every permission is necessary.

Chip’s official site advertises free high-quality playback, 24/7 uptime and no payment restrictions. Those are vendor claims, not independent uptime measurements, but its command documentation shows an unusually generous feature set for a free-first option.

Examples from the command reference include /play song name, /play https://open.spotify.com/track/..., /search song name, /skip, /pause, /resume, /loop current, /loop all, /volume 150 and /247. Check the live command menu because source availability and limits can change.
3. FredBoat — best for simplicity
FredBoat’s documentation favors a predictable, low-friction workflow. It requires the installer to own the server or have Manage Server permission, supports playlist URLs and covers the basic queue controls most small groups need.
Documented commands include ;;play song or URL, ;;list, ;;nowplaying, ;;skip, ;;stop, ;;pause, ;;unpause, ;;join, ;;leave, ;;repeat and ;;shuffle. The double-semicolon prefix feels older than slash-command-first bots, but it is easy to teach.

FredBoat’s FAQ warns that US-hosted instances cannot play videos blocked by YouTube in the United States. YouTube availability can therefore vary by hosting region and platform changes.
4. Uzox — best for effects
Uzox’s command reference lists 66 commands, making it the most attractive option for karaoke, party and experimental listening servers. Alongside /play, /search, /queue, /skip, /loop and /autoplay, it exposes /equalizer, /spotify, /savedqueue, /247 and /fix.

Effects include equalizer controls, bass boost, karaoke, nightcore, vaporwave, tremolo, vibrato, speed and pitch. Saved queues, queue recovery, lyrics and MP3 playback add flexibility. More filters do not mean better audio quality: aggressive processing can color or distort the source, and the exact premium boundary is not established by the surfaced pages.
5. Vexera — best music-plus-moderation bot
Vexera combines music with moderation and administration. Its music documentation lists Spotify, SoundCloud, Bandcamp, Twitch and Vimeo, with a queue of up to 2,000 songs. Prefix examples are +play song name or URL, +search song name, +queue, +skip, +pause, +resume, +stop, +shuffle, +repeat one, +repeat all and +lyrics.
Spotify integration, custom URLs, playlist management and sharing, premium voice nodes and volume controls are documented as Premium features. Vexera also documents selecting among the first five search results when a title returns the wrong song.
Installation is covered at its guide. Manage Server or Administrator access may be needed to install, but the documentation says Administrator is not strictly required. Its granular permission nodes, including music.play, music.* and *, are described at the permissions page.
6. Best Music Bot — broad advertised source coverage
The Discord App Directory listing advertises YouTube, YouTube Music, Spotify, Deezer, Apple Music, Tidal, SoundCloud, Qobuz, JioSaavn and Kuwo, with slash commands such as /play, /connect, /skip, /queue, /loop, /autoplay, /volume and /seek.

This is a useful directory option for users with libraries spread across services, but the listing does not establish that every source offers direct playback, nor does it state verified pricing or plan limits. Test the particular source you use before moving a large community to it.

7. Lofi Radio — best specialist background bot
Lofi Radio’s Discord listing positions it as a lofi music bot and reports approximately 1.1 million servers. It fits study, work and ambient listening communities that want continuous background sound rather than user-requested tracks, queue reordering and effects.
The available listing does not establish a complete command set, playlist controls or pricing. Choose it for its narrow purpose, not as a direct substitute for Jockie or Chip.
Which bot should you choose?
- Pick Jockie Music for a mature all-purpose setup, multiple voice sessions and serious queue management.
- Pick Chip when free access, effects, uploads and queue tools matter most.
- Pick FredBoat when a small group wants the shortest learning curve.
- Pick Uzox when filters, pitch, karaoke and saved queues are the point.
- Pick Vexera when the server also needs moderation and permission controls.
- Pick Best Music Bot only after testing the particular services you rely on.
- Pick Lofi Radio for continuous lofi ambience rather than a DJ-style request system.
How to install a Discord music bot safely
- Confirm that you own the server or have Manage Server permission. FredBoat explicitly requires it; Vexera documents Manage Server or Administrator for installation.
- Open the bot’s official invite or Discord App Directory page, not an unofficial invite aggregator.
- Select the target server and inspect every requested permission before authorizing.
- Prefer least privilege: usually View Channel, Send Messages, Embed Links, Connect, Speak, Use Voice Activity and Read Message History. Add Manage Messages only when a documented feature needs it.
- Join the voice channel where playback should occur.
- Open the bot’s slash-command menu or run its current help command. Do not assume one bot’s prefix works for another.
- Test one known-supported track or search query before importing a large playlist.
- Restrict commands to a music channel or DJ role through Discord’s Integrations and role permissions where supported.
Permissions and privacy checks
Never grant Administrator automatically. A bot may request it for convenience, but that does not make it necessary. Review the invite against the bot’s documentation, limit who can run playback and moderation commands, and remove unused apps. Jockie’s FAQ identifies View Channel and related Discord permissions as common reasons it appears not to respond: check its permission guidance.
Troubleshooting common failures
The bot cannot join voice
- Confirm Connect and Speak permissions for the bot’s role and the specific channel.
- Check that the bot can view the channel and is not already connected elsewhere.
- Make sure it is not server-muted and that your Discord output device is correct.
The bot joins but nobody hears audio
Check Connect, Speak and Use Voice Activity, then test another source. A track can fail because it is blocked in the bot’s hosting region or unavailable to the extractor; FredBoat documents regional YouTube blocking at its FAQ.

Commands produce no response
- Use the bot’s current slash menu or verify the prefix.
- Allow time for newly registered slash commands to appear.
- Confirm View Channel, Send Messages and Read Message History in the text channel.
- Check whether a DJ role, command channel or outage status is blocking the request.
The wrong song is queued
Use the full URL, run the bot’s search command and inspect the result selector before confirming. Vexera documents choosing among the first five search results. Remove the incorrect item and add the intended version, preferably an official upload or supported direct file.
A playlist loads only partly
Partial loading can be a documented page limit rather than a bug. Jockie loads Spotify playlists in 100-track pages and currently loads only the first 100 Apple Music tracks. Other causes include private, deleted, region-locked or unsupported tracks, API limits and premium restrictions.
YouTube links fail
Do not treat acceptance of a URL as a promise of playback. Extraction can break after platform enforcement, regional blocking or source changes. Try a documented alternative source and check the bot’s current status or support channel.
24/7 playback disconnects
“24/7” describes a feature or mode, not a guarantee of uninterrupted service. Check whether the mode requires boosts or Premium, whether the bot is being disconnected for inactivity and whether the source itself remains available.
Why old lists can mislead you
Search results still recycle Hydra, Rythm and other legacy names. Do not install a bot merely because an old article lists it. A 2026 secondary report says Hydra shut down in September 2021 after YouTube enforcement and that many old Hydra command guides are obsolete; treat that report as context, not as a primary service announcement: BestForAndroid’s report.
Check whether a bot is currently installable, whether its documentation is live and whether the exact source and feature you need work under the plan you intend to use. Discord App Directory server counts are snapshots, not uptime or quality measurements.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Start with Jockie Music for most servers. Choose Chip if a free-first feature set matters more, FredBoat for simple commands, Uzox for effects, Vexera for music plus moderation, Best Music Bot for a source list you will test yourself, and Lofi Radio for dedicated lofi ambience.
