For a TV, the most reliable alternatives are a direct ESPN Unlimited subscription or another live-TV provider that carries ESPN; an antenna works only when the game is simulcast on your local ABC station. NFL+ Premium is a separate mobile option: ESPN’s current terms limit live local and primetime games through NFL+ Premium to phones and tablets.
First, check which channel has your game
Monday Night Football is primarily shown on ESPN, while some games are also simulcast on ABC. The channel can vary by game, and ABC availability depends on your local station. A dispute between a streaming provider and a network owner can remove ESPN or ABC from that provider, but it does not necessarily remove the game from every service.
- Find the specific matchup on the NFL Ways to Watch guide and enter your ZIP code or location to see available options.
- Check the game listing and your local ABC affiliate’s schedule to confirm whether ABC is carrying it in your market.
- Confirm whether you need ESPN, ABC, or both before signing up for another service.
Way 1: Subscribe directly to ESPN Unlimited
As of August 18, 2026, ESPN lists ESPN Unlimited at $29.99 per month. ESPN says the plan includes ESPN programming and NFL coverage, including Monday Night Football. Because it is a subscription from ESPN, it can be a direct alternative when your live-TV provider has lost ESPN in a carriage dispute. Check the current plan details and billing terms before subscribing.
Choose Unlimited, not Select
ESPN Select is the lower-priced tier for ESPN+ content; it is not the full ESPN network replacement needed for Monday Night Football. ESPN’s plan and partner details distinguish Select from Unlimited. Older guides that refer loosely to “ESPN+” may not describe the current plan lineup accurately.

Watch on a supported TV device
ESPN access is through the ESPN app, but supported devices and sign-in steps can change. Before paying, confirm that the app is available on your smart TV, streaming stick, game console, or other connected device. A practical setup is:
- Open the ESPN app on your connected TV device.
- Choose Get ESPN, Subscribe, or the equivalent account option.
- Select ESPN Unlimited, then sign in with the ESPN account used for the subscription.
- Find the live NFL or Monday Night Football listing. If your TV does not support the current app, use a supported streaming device or cast from a compatible phone or tablet.
If you already subscribe to ESPN through another provider, try activating ESPN in the app with that provider account before buying a second subscription. ESPN’s NFL page has its current NFL offering.

Way 2: Use a different live-TV provider
A competing live-TV service may carry ESPN, but no provider is a guaranteed fit in every ZIP code or during every dispute. Compare the actual channel lineup for your address, and distinguish ESPN availability from local ABC availability.

The NFL’s viewing guide and ESPN’s partner information list ways to access ESPN, but channel lineups and regional availability can change. A replacement service may also have its own carriage disputes. If you need just one game, compare the total cost and cancellation terms of a temporary live-TV subscription with one month of ESPN Unlimited rather than assuming a full bundle is better value.

Way 3: Use an antenna if the game is on local ABC
An antenna can be the cheapest option after the hardware cost, but only if that particular game is simulcast on your local ABC affiliate and your home receives a usable signal. An antenna receives broadcast stations such as ABC; it cannot receive ESPN’s cable feed.
Check the NFL’s location-based guide and your local ABC schedule before buying an antenna. Reception depends on your distance from the transmitter, terrain, building materials, antenna placement, and local signal strength. A nearby outdoor antenna may work where an indoor antenna does not, but no antenna works equally well in every home.

What NFL+ Premium and the NFL app can—and cannot—do
NFL+ Premium is for mobile viewing of live local and primetime games
ESPN’s current NFL+ Premium bundle terms limit live local and primetime NFL games through NFL+ Premium to phones and tablets. That can suit a mobile-first viewer, but it is not a dependable smart-TV workaround. The same page listed ESPN Unlimited plus NFL+ Premium at $39.99 per month and a Disney+, Hulu, ESPN Unlimited plus NFL+ Premium bundle at $45.99 per month in August 2026. Those bundles add services such as NFL Network, RedZone, NFL Films, and game replays; check current terms before subscribing.
The NFL app requires qualifying provider access
The NFL app is not a free route around a missing ESPN subscription. To watch through an authenticated provider, you generally need qualifying access from a participating cable, satellite, telco, or streaming service and must sign in with that provider. See the NFL’s current supported-provider list.
