For U.S. viewers, the best way to watch free internet TV is through ad-supported streaming services with live channel guides. This list includes both those services and individual network streams: they are not all single channels, and most combine scheduled live programming with on-demand titles. “Free” usually means no subscription fee, not an ad-free experience; channel lineups, account prompts, and device support vary.
How to choose a free internet TV service
A live channel follows a schedule, so you join whatever is airing now; on-demand programming lets you pick a title and start it when you want. Many services offer both. Most free platforms are supported by advertising, and channel counts are not directly comparable: providers may count regional feeds, duplicate channels, or device-exclusive streams differently.
The table focuses on U.S. availability. Browser access and account requirements can change by device, location, or feature, so check the provider’s current options if a particular channel matters to you.

| Plex Free Live TV | Plex users and a channel guide | Yes | Yes | Yes | Check the current web or device workflow | Catalog and access conditions vary |
| Haystack News | News from multiple sources | Yes, news programming | News clips and programming | Yes | Verify current access requirements | Not a general entertainment service |

Best general-purpose free live-TV services
1. Pluto TV: best for channel surfing
Pluto TV is a close match for the traditional guide-and-channel-surfing experience: it offers scheduled streams across genres such as classic television, comedy, and crime, alongside on-demand viewing. It can be watched in a desktop browser. Pluto’s official viewing page promotes more than 100 live channels, but the available lineup can vary by country and device, so treat that figure as a provider description rather than a universal count. Check Pluto TV’s viewing options.

10. NewsON: local news from participating stations
NewsON focuses on local-news coverage from participating stations. What you can watch depends on station participation and your location; it does not guarantee a stream from every local network affiliate. Check NewsON’s available coverage.
11. YouTube’s free live channels
YouTube hosts scheduled live streams and channels covering news, sports-related programming, creators, and niche interests. Use the live section to look for streams, and check that a result is actually a scheduled channel rather than a one-off video or a standard on-demand upload. Some features may work differently when signed in. Browse YouTube Live.
12. Individual official network streams
If you want a particular subject rather than a large guide, look for an official network stream. Examples include ABC News Live, CBS News 24/7, NBC News NOW, LiveNOW from FOX, NASA TV, and CBS Sports HQ. These are examples to search for on the networks’ own sites or official apps, not one unified service; schedules, account prompts, and availability differ. A sports-news channel is not a promise of access to live games.
What free internet TV does not reliably include
- Every local broadcast affiliate: Free streaming guides often offer national news channels rather than live local ABC, CBS, FOX, or NBC feeds. NewsON coverage is limited to participating stations. If local broadcast reception is the priority, an HDTV antenna may be a better fit.
- Premium and regional sports: Free services may carry news, highlights, replays, niche sports, or selected events, but do not guarantee every live professional, college, or regional broadcast. Check the current schedule for the specific event.
- All cable networks or new episodes: A free channel guide is not a complete cable package or a guarantee of full current-season libraries.
- Ad-free viewing or universal recording: Commercial breaks are normal, and DVR or catch-up controls should not be assumed on a free service.
Roku treats antenna reception as a separate source from free streaming channels; on compatible Roku TVs, its guide can combine antenna channels with streaming options. An antenna is not needed for the internet services above, but internet streaming alone does not guarantee access to local affiliates. Roku’s guide to free TV and live-TV overview explain the distinction.

Quick Recap
How to watch on a computer, phone, or TV
- Choose the official service: Open its official website in a browser or install its official app from your device’s app store. Check the service’s supported-device information if you are using a smart TV or streaming player.
- Open its live guide: Look for a section labeled Live TV, Guide, Channels, or Live. A service may also have a separate on-demand area.
- Select a channel or program: The stream normally starts at its current point in the schedule; it may not begin at the start of the program.
- Browse by genre or source: Use categories, the channel guide, or favorites controls if available. Sign-in may be needed for personalization or saved favorites.
- Move viewing to a television if needed: Use a compatible smart-TV app or a Roku, Fire TV, or Google TV device. You can also cast from a supported phone or connect a laptop to a TV over HDMI.
Fix common playback problems
- Make sure you are using the provider’s official site or app.
- Check whether the channel is restricted by location or unavailable on your device.
- If a browser stream fails, try the provider’s supported app; temporarily disable an aggressive browser extension if it interferes with playback.
- On a smart TV, update the app and device firmware, then confirm the model is supported.
- If video buffers, test another network or reduce other network use; check the provider’s service status if the problem persists.
- Avoid unofficial IPTV playlists and streaming apps: they are not reliable substitutes for legitimate services.
