This is a ranking by average Letterboxd member rating—not an objective verdict or a permanent critical consensus—and the order can change as members rate films.
What Letterboxd’s action ranking measures
Letterboxd describes its list as ranking “narrative feature films in the action genre by average member rating.” Its stated criteria require at least 5,000 ratings, Letterboxd’s action genre tag, a feature longer than 40 minutes, and a festival premiere, theatrical distribution, or professional streaming release. The list excludes categories such as documentaries, television films and series, direct-to-video films, and self-released web videos.

That framework matters: the list reflects the site’s genre classification and members’ ratings, not a judgment that every kind of action filmmaking is represented equally. The 10 highest-ranked action movies

Akira Kurosawa’s film is second. It offers another classic samurai entry near the top, making the first two places a striking contrast with the superhero, fantasy, and science-fiction adventures that follow.
