CBS canceled the series after six seasons in March 2025, and its final episode, “The Circle Game,” aired May 20, 2025. The Season 7 listed on CBS’s site belongs to the separate flagship series FBI, not FBI: Most Wanted.
Was FBI: Most Wanted canceled?
Yes. CBS renewed FBI: Most Wanted for a sixth season in its 2024–25 renewal announcement; that announcement was not a renewal for Season 7. On March 4, 2025, TVLine reported that CBS had canceled the series and that it would not return for the 2025–26 television season. The report came while Season 6 was in progress. CBS/Paramount’s renewal announcement and TVLine’s cancellation report establish the distinction between the sixth-season renewal and the later cancellation.

Why was FBI: Most Wanted canceled?
The sources cited here do not establish a confirmed official CBS explanation. TVLine reported that the show averaged 6.5 million total viewers during the season then in progress, down 10% from Season 5, and ranked ninth among the 14 CBS dramas included in its comparison. Those figures provide context for the March 2025 report, but do not prove why CBS made its decision.
The audience figures announced by CBS in 2024 use a different measure: the network said the show averaged more than 10.3 million Live+35 viewers across linear and streaming, up 6% year over year. That network figure and TVLine’s later total-viewer average are from different dates and measurement bases, so they should not be treated as a like-for-like trend. CBS/Paramount’s announcement and TVLine’s report describe their respective figures.

When was the series finale?
“The Circle Game” aired May 20, 2025, as the series finale. In an interview published that day, showrunner David Hudgins discussed the episode’s character endings and the Season 7 stories the writers had not developed. TV Insider’s interview with Hudgins is the source for those details.
Spoilers: where the characters end up
- Remy retires.
- Barnes takes over as team leader.
- Hana and Ethan move in together.
- Ray and Cora are having a baby.
What would have happened in Season 7?
There was no approved or written Season 7. Hudgins said the writers had not reached the point of exploring stories for the season because the cancellation came early, though the news gave them time to craft a series finale.
Rank #2
He described one hypothetical direction: Remy would have renewed for another year as task-force leader, while a major fugitive—the “white whale”—would escape in the finale and be caught the following season. That was an imagined continuation, not a confirmed plot or a filmed cliffhanger. Hudgins’s TV Insider interview distinguishes the unrealized idea from the ending that aired.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the CBS Season 7 page for FBI or FBI: Most Wanted?
It is for FBI, the separate flagship series. CBS’s episode guide lists that show’s seventh season as running from October 15, 2024, to May 20, 2025, with 22 episodes. That listing does not indicate a seventh season of FBI: Most Wanted. CBS’s Season 7 episode guide identifies the flagship series.
