The title refers to two screen formats: a series with three episodes in its first series and five in its second, and a separate 2025 feature film.
What is Tales From Black Manor about?
The series centers on the Black family’s connection to Death and the Seven Books of Death. In the official Series 1 description, the books pass through generations as family members search for them and learn their secrets. The stories explore mortality, the possibility of immortality, and the consequences of engaging with Death’s power. Adventure Company’s Series 1 page describes it as a haunting anthology.
Is it a movie or a series?
It is both, but the series and movie are distinct works. Adventure Company lists two series, while Apple TV and Rotten Tomatoes list a separate feature film released in 2025. The available descriptions do not establish whether the film recaps, adapts, or continues the series, so it is safest to treat it as a separate movie connected by title and story world.
How many episodes are in the series?
Adventure Company lists three episodes in Series 1 and five in Series 2. Those eight episode listings are separate from the feature film.

The official summaries touch on immortality, a German soldier’s fixation on Black Manor during World War II, a romance involving one of the Seven Deaths, and two friends who enter the manor in an 1980s-set story. The creators say the story world expanded across periods including medieval settings, the World Wars, and the 1980s. They describe “Welcome to the 80s” as drawing on an 80s Amblin feel, with inspirations including Stranger Things, The Ring, and Dave McKean’s The Sandman “Dust Covers.” These are the creators’ stated inspirations, not critical comparisons. Details appear on Adventure Company’s Series 2 page.
What is the 2025 film?
The separate 2025 Tales From Black Manor feature film is listed as a fantasy/horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour 31 minutes. Apple TV credits Nick and Lexie Trivundza as directors and Nick Trivundza as writer; its synopsis follows the Black family, a secret Book of Death, and the pursuit of immortality. Rotten Tomatoes gives a shorter synopsis involving a king’s tale of Death, a gruesome war, and the rise of the House of Black. See the Apple TV listing and Rotten Tomatoes listing.

Rotten Tomatoes names Fandango as a destination to stream, rent, or buy the 2025 film. Apple TV also has a listing, but that listing alone does not establish that playback or a transaction is available everywhere. Check the current listing in your country for the film’s availability and options; availability can change by region. These sources identify destinations for the movie, not viewing access to the series.
