New Order and Oasis were not given one shared “upgrade.” They received separate Dolby Atmos projects announced in 2024: New Order’s Movement, Low-Life and “Blue Monday,” plus an Atmos treatment for Oasis’s 30th-anniversary album Definitely Maybe. These are new immersive mixes, not replacements for the familiar stereo masters—and “better” depends on the mix, playback system and your taste.
What New Order released
The New Order announcement covered Dolby Atmos versions of Movement, Low-Life and the single “Blue Monday,” with a release date of September 20, 2024. Contemporary coverage reported that Steven Wilson created the mixes from the original master tapes, with drummer Stephen Morris overseeing the project. (BGR, September 3, 2024)
That announcement does not establish the complete New Order Atmos catalog today. Streaming catalogs and editions can change, so check the album page in your service for a Dolby Atmos badge rather than assuming every New Order record is included.
What Oasis released
Apple Music announced a Dolby Atmos treatment for Oasis’s Definitely Maybe as part of the album’s 30th-anniversary campaign. The announcement specifically highlighted “Live Forever” and “Cigarettes & Alcohol.” (BGR, September 3, 2024)

Setup takes less than 1 minute.
- Voice Clarity Enhancement: VoiceMX technology uses advanced DSP algorithms to isolate and enhance vocal frequencies in real time. Dialogue remains crisp and easy to follow by separating speech from background effects and music, even at low volumes or during intense scenes.
- 300W Output with 6-Driver System: Featuring five precision-tuned full-range drivers and a dedicated wired wooden subwoofer, the system delivers up to 300W of peak power for bold, room-filling sound. With a frequency response of 45 Hz–18 kHz and a maximum SPL of 99 dB, it reproduces everything from subtle nuances to explosive cinematic effects.
- 18 mm High-Excursion Driver: Powered by BassMX technology, the wired wooden subwoofer features a 18 mm high-excursion driver, a 5.3L tuned cabinet, and a high-density magnetic circuit. This design delivers deeper, tighter bass with greater air displacement and enhanced low-frequency performance—bringing more realism to every scene.
- HDMI eARC for True Dolby Atmos: HDMI eARC supports up to 37 Mbps of bandwidth, unlocking the full potential of lossless Dolby Atmos 5.1-channel audio. Compared to standard ARC, eARC delivers richer surround effects and greater detail. CEC integration allows the TV and soundbar to work together with unified control.
The available announcement does not fully identify the current edition metadata or prove that every release associated with Definitely Maybe carries an Atmos mix. In the app, open the album details and confirm the format label; a standard or deluxe stereo edition may appear alongside an immersive version.
Dolby Atmos, Spatial Audio and stereo are not the same thing
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Dolby Atmos | An object-based mixing and delivery format. Instruments, voices and effects can be positioned within a three-dimensional sound field rather than only left and right. |
| Spatial Audio | Apple’s consumer-facing name for compatible immersive playback, often including Dolby Atmos music. |
| Head-tracked Spatial Audio | An optional rendering feature that keeps the apparent soundstage anchored as your head moves. It is separate from the Atmos mix itself. |
| Stereo | The conventional two-channel presentation used by the original releases and by many fallback playback paths. |
Headphones do not place physical speakers in front, behind and above you. Compatible devices use binaural processing to simulate those positions. A home-theater system with Atmos speakers creates the effect acoustically; headphones create it virtually.

- Powerful sound with style – Take your entertainment to the next level with incredible sound, clarity, and depth packed into an all-in-one design.
- Crystal clear dialogue – A dedicated center dialogue channel sharpens conversations so you can catch every moment of your favorite shows.
- Sound in another dimension – Dolby Atmos features 3D sound that moves around you and clear dialogue. DTS:X delivers multi-dimensional audio for lifelike sound.
- Easy setup – Connect the included HDMI cable to your TV's HDMI eARC/ARC port and instantly enjoy audio that’s always in sync.
Atmos also does not automatically mean higher resolution, greater dynamic range or a superior master. It describes the spatial format and the choices made in a new mix. A well-balanced stereo master can remain more immediate, forceful or familiar than an Atmos version.
Why remix classic albums in Atmos?
When multitrack or master-tape elements are available, a mixer can redistribute vocals, drums, guitars, synthesizers, bass, ambience and effects around a larger sound field. That can make dense arrangements easier to separate and can give anniversaries and reissues a format designed for modern streaming platforms.

It is an interpretation, not an automatic restoration. The new mix may reveal a previously recessed part, change the apparent distance of a vocal or alter how forcefully the rhythm section hits. Those changes can be exciting, distracting or barely noticeable depending on the song and playback chain.
How to listen
- Use a service that carries the specific mix. Apple Music is the service directly associated with the Oasis announcement. Current carriage of these releases on other services is not established here.
- Use a compatible playback path. Support depends on the app, operating system, device and headphones or speakers. Apple’s current product information is at apple.com/apple-music, while its Music guide is at support.apple.com/guide/music/welcome/mac.
- Turn on immersive playback where required. Menu names and controls vary by app and operating-system version. Do not assume that a device capable of ordinary streaming is delivering Atmos.
- Verify the album page. Look for a Dolby Atmos or Spatial Audio badge and play a track from that listing. Search results can return a stereo edition instead.
- Compare with stereo at a matched, comfortable volume. A louder version often sounds “better” in a quick comparison even when the mix itself is not superior.
For Apple’s general Spatial Audio and headphone information, see Apple’s AirPods page. Dolby’s explanation of music Atmos systems is available at Dolby Music. Availability, supported devices and download behavior should be confirmed in the current regional support documentation.

- 5.1.2ch Surround Sound System: A 5.1.2-channel system featuring up-firing speakers, surround sound, and a powerful subwoofer creates lifelike, multidimensional audio. Feel the Sky Around You—raindrops falling from above, helicopters circling overhead, thunder rumbling in all directions. Sound isn’t just around you, it engulfs you, as if the ceiling disappeared. This is Dolby Atmos: not just heard, but felt.
- Up-Firing Drivers with Neodymium Core: The up-firing channels use neodymium internal magnets and 18-core large voice coils to enhance height precision and vertical throw. This aerospace-grade configuration ensures better high-frequency dynamics, delivering focused and elevated sound images that unlock the true potential of Dolby Atmos.
- 360° SurroundX Audio: SurroundX technology combines two rear surround speakers and dual up-firing Atmos drivers to build a true 360° sound field. Powered by intelligent spatial algorithms, the system precisely positions audio around and above you—enhancing Dolby Atmos with a more natural, three-dimensional soundstage. Note: Not compatible with DTS.
- Lossless Audio Transmission: Unlock full Dolby Atmos performance with HDMI eARC, supporting up to 37Mbps bandwidth for lossless 5.1.2-channel audio. Compared to regular ARC, eARC delivers richer detail and better surround effects with no compression. With CEC, your TV and soundbar work as one—power, volume, and input sync automatically for effortless control.
- Advanced App Control: Customize every detail of your audio experience with the Ultimea App. Fine-tune your surround sound with 13-step level adjustment (-6 to +6), optimize with a 10-band graphic EQ, and choose from 121 preset sound settings. Enjoy seamless OTA updates that unlock new features and keep your system performing at its peak.
If the Atmos version does not appear
- Your region, subscription, app or device may not support the format.
- Immersive playback may be disabled in the service or device settings.
- You may be playing a previously downloaded stereo file.
- The search result may be a standard or deluxe stereo edition.
- The title may be temporarily unavailable or have changed metadata.
Open the album’s details page, check for the format badge, test a known Atmos track, and compare streaming with the downloaded file. If the immersive listing is unavailable, use the stereo master rather than concluding that the release has disappeared permanently.
What to listen for in these bands’ music
New Order’s layered electronics
New Order’s music contains sequenced parts, synthesizers, electronic percussion, bass and vocals that can occupy distinct positions in an immersive field. Atmos gives a mixer more room to separate those layers, but the result is mix-dependent. Claims that a particular part is newly audible require direct comparison with the actual Atmos release, not inference from the stereo recording.

Oasis’s guitar-heavy rock
Definitely Maybe combines electric and acoustic guitars, lead and backing vocals, cymbals and room ambience in a dense rock production. An Atmos presentation can create more apparent space around those elements, yet it may also feel less concentrated than the familiar stereo image. Whether that trade-off works is a matter of listening preference.
Is Atmos a worthwhile upgrade?
Atmos is worth trying if you enjoy alternate mixes, have compatible playback and want to hear how these records are reinterpreted. It is less compelling if you want the exact balance you know, rely on unsupported hardware or prefer the direct punch of stereo.
The sensible test is not whether the packaging says “spatial.” Listen to the same passage in both formats and judge vocal focus, bass and kick impact, dynamic contrast, instrument placement and whether the added space serves the song. The original stereo versions remain valid reference points.
The current status of the story
The announcements date from September 2024, not a new August 2026 release event. In 2026, the practical question is whether the relevant New Order and Oasis mixes are currently listed in your region and whether your playback chain is delivering them. Catalog availability can change; the records themselves are additional immersive options, not universal replacements for the originals.
