The people you invite must be at least 13, have Google Accounts, live in the same household as the family manager, and not belong to another Google family group. You add them through Google family sharing—not by creating unrestricted YouTube TV profiles for people anywhere.
Check eligibility before sending an invitation
Only the YouTube TV family manager can invite or remove members. Confirm each requirement before you start:
- You are signed in to the Google Account that manages the YouTube TV membership.
- The person is at least 13 years old for a standard family invitation.
- The person has a personal Google Account. A business-managed Google Workspace account may not be eligible for a Google family group.
- The person genuinely lives in your household.
- Your family group has fewer than six accounts, including the manager.
- The person is not already a member of another Google family group.
YouTube TV treats “family” as a household arrangement. Being related, being friends, or living in the same state does not by itself satisfy the residence requirement. See the current eligibility rules at Google’s YouTube TV family-sharing help page.
How to invite someone to your YouTube TV membership
- Sign in to YouTube TV with the family manager’s account.
- Select your profile picture.
- Open Purchases and memberships.
- Select your YouTube TV membership.
- Next to Family sharing settings, select Edit.
- Select Invite a new member.
- Enter the person’s email address or phone number.
- Select Send.
Menu wording can vary slightly by device or interface version. If a label is different, use the family-sharing controls associated with your YouTube TV membership rather than creating a normal YouTube profile. The official step-by-step instructions are at support.google.com/youtubetv/answer/7251139.

How the invited person joins
- Open the invitation email or message.
- Sign in to the Google Account that should receive the YouTube TV access.
- Follow Google’s instructions to accept the family-group invitation.
- Open YouTube TV and sign in with that same Google Account.
Accepting with a different Google Account can make the invitation appear unusable or leave the person watching under the wrong account. The recipient must complete every acceptance screen; merely opening the message does not join the family group.
What the new user receives
Family sharing gives each member a separate login within the shared membership. Each person has an individual YouTube TV library, recordings, viewing preferences, and recommendations. Those personalized areas are not merged with the other members’ libraries.
The family manager remains responsible for the membership and billing decisions. Premium channel packages and other add-ons purchased by the manager can be available to family members, but family sharing itself does not make every optional add-on free.

Child accounts
YouTube TV allows family managers to create child accounts in the family group. A child account is parent-managed and should not be treated as identical to an ordinary independent invite. Parental controls and Google family settings affect how it is created and used.

How many people can use one membership?
| Limit | What it means |
|---|---|
| Family accounts | One manager plus up to five invited members: six household Google accounts total. |
| Simultaneous viewing | The standard membership supports streaming on up to three separate devices at the same time. |
| Family-sharing charge | YouTube TV describes the five additional household members as included without an extra family-sharing charge. |
Six accounts therefore does not mean six people can watch simultaneously. If a fourth device tries to stream under the standard allowance, someone may need to stop playback first.
Can you share YouTube TV with someone outside your home?
Not as a normal permanent arrangement. Family-group members must live in the same household as the manager, and members must periodically use YouTube TV from the household’s home location to maintain access.

Travel and temporary locations
A household member who travels may see programming based on their current location, while local channels and other availability can differ from the home area. Temporary travel does not remove the requirement to use the service from the household home location periodically.
Roommates and college students
Roommates may qualify when they genuinely share the household. A student temporarily away at school may still need to return to and use YouTube TV from the household home location. A person who permanently lives elsewhere is better served by a separate membership.
Do not change the home area simply to accommodate someone who lives in another home. The manager controls that location, and an inappropriate change can create local-channel and service problems.

Troubleshoot invitations and access problems
No invitation arrived
- Verify the exact email address or phone number used for the invitation.
- Have the recipient check spam, junk, promotions, and other filtered folders.
- Make sure the recipient is signed in to the Google Account associated with the invitation.
- Look for a pending invitation in the family-sharing settings.
- Cancel an obsolete pending invitation and send a new one if needed.
YouTube TV says invitations can be resent if an invitation expires or a former member leaves.
The recipient cannot accept
- Check whether the Google Account already belongs to another family group. The account must leave that group before joining yours.
- Remember that a Google Account can belong to only one family group at a time, and switching family groups may be restricted to once every 12 months.
- Confirm the recipient meets the age and Google Account requirements.
- Check that your family group has not reached six total accounts.
The service reports a location problem
- Confirm that the person actually lives in the manager’s household.
- Distinguish the household home area from the viewer’s temporary current location.
- Have the member periodically use YouTube TV from the household home location.
- Do not use repeated home-area changes as a workaround for permanent out-of-household sharing.
Streaming stops or a device is blocked
Check how many devices are actively streaming. The standard membership allows up to three simultaneous devices, regardless of whether the family group contains fewer or all six possible accounts.

The family manager controls member removal. Sign in to YouTube TV, open the membership and family-sharing management controls, choose the member-management option, select the person, and confirm removal. Because labels can change between interfaces, use the current controls described in the official help page.

- Compact without compromises: The sleek design of Roku Streaming Stick won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, and it even powers from your TV alone, plugging into the back and staying out of sight. No wall outlet, no extra cords, no clutter.
- No more juggling remotes: Power up your TV, adjust the volume, and control your Roku device with one remote. Use your voice to quickly search, play entertainment, and more.

- TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.
Removing someone ends that person’s access to the family membership. Their Google Account remains theirs, and YouTube TV says saved preferences are retained if they later restart service. Do not assume recordings, viewing history, or other account data automatically transfer to a new individual membership.
When a separate YouTube TV membership is the better choice
Use an independent membership when the person permanently lives elsewhere, needs separate billing and account control, cannot regularly use the household home location, or the household routinely exceeds the standard three-device streaming allowance. A person with an existing individual YouTube TV subscription should handle that subscription separately; YouTube TV’s published family-sharing instructions do not establish an automatic process for merging two memberships or transferring all recordings and history.
