What Does Netflix Code 11003 Mean? How to Fix Error 11003

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Netflix says error 11003 usually means information or a setting on your device is preventing the Netflix app from reaching the service. It is primarily a device-side configuration or connectivity problem—not proof that your account is blocked or that Netflix is experiencing an outage. Netflix provides specific remedies for Android phones and tablets and for Kindle Fire; other devices require general troubleshooting.

What Netflix error 11003 means

In plain English, the Netflix app cannot complete its connection because something on the device, in the app’s stored state, or along that device’s network path is getting in the way. Netflix’s official explanation is deliberately broad: it does not identify one universal cause for every model or operating system.

The code is also different from error 1003. Netflix describes 1003 separately, commonly associating it with an outdated app or device information that needs refreshing. Check the exact code and the accompanying message before applying a fix: Netflix’s error 1003 guidance.

The dedicated 11003 page covers an Android phone or tablet and a Kindle Fire. It does not establish that the same menus or procedures apply to Roku, smart TVs, Apple TV, game consoles, Fire TV Stick, or every Android TV device.

Fix Netflix error 11003 on an Android phone or tablet

Turn off “Do not keep activities”

Netflix’s primary Android remedy is to disable an Android Developer options setting that closes an app activity as soon as you leave it.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Open Developer options. Depending on the manufacturer, it may be under System or General.
  3. In the Apps section, turn off or uncheck Do not keep activities.
  4. Relaunch Netflix and try the title again.

Netflix does not publish a detailed technical root-cause explanation. Its prescribed fix indicates that Netflix may be affected when Android aggressively destroys app activities instead of allowing the app to preserve and resume the state it needs. Menu names and locations vary by Android release and manufacturer. The official procedure is documented at Netflix Help Center: Error 11003.

If Developer options is not visible

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select About device.
  3. Select Software info, if that submenu exists.
  4. Find Build number.
  5. Tap Build number five times, until Android reports that developer mode has been enabled.
  6. Return to Settings and open Developer options.
  7. Under Apps, disable Do not keep activities.
  8. Open Netflix again.

The five-tap instruction is the procedure Netflix currently shows for this error, but manufacturers can change the labels, hierarchy, or number of taps. Change only this setting; unrelated Developer options can affect other apps and system behavior.

Fix Netflix error 11003 on Kindle Fire

Restart the tablet

  1. Hold the Kindle Fire’s Power button.
  2. Choose Shut Down, Power Off, or OK, depending on the interface.
  3. Wait until the tablet is fully powered off.
  4. Hold the Power button again until the Kindle or Amazon logo appears.
  5. Open Netflix and try streaming.

Restart the home network if the error remains

  1. Turn off the Kindle Fire.
  2. Unplug the modem and router.
  3. Wait at least 30 seconds.
  4. Plug the modem and router back in.
  5. Wait about one minute for the connection to return.
  6. Turn on the Kindle Fire and test Netflix.

Some modems, routers, and tablets take longer to reconnect. This restart will not correct an incorrect Wi-Fi password, an unfinished captive-portal login, a blocked managed network, or a failing internet service. Netflix’s device-specific sequence is at the Error 11003 Help Center page.

If the official fix does not work

The following actions come from Netflix’s broader troubleshooting guidance. They are sensible escalation steps, not additional 11003-specific cures.

Perform a complete restart

Power the device off completely rather than merely putting it to sleep, then start it again. Netflix’s general restart and freeze guidance is available at Netflix crashes or closes and Netflix freezes or gets stuck loading.

  • Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, so you can switch from streaming to gaming with ease. Plus, it’s designed to stay hidden behind your TV, keeping wires neatly out of sight

Sign out and sign in again

On interfaces that provide it, open Get Help → Sign out, then sign in again. An error screen may label the same function Sign out, Reset, or Deactivate. This exact path is not present on every Android phone or Kindle Fire version.

Clear Netflix app storage on Android

  1. Find the Netflix icon and touch and hold it.
  2. Tap App info.
  3. Choose Storage & cache.
  4. Tap Clear storage and confirm.
  5. Open Netflix and sign in again.

Netflix’s documented Android connection procedure uses Clear storage, not merely Clear cache. Clearing storage signs you out and removes downloaded Netflix titles from the device, so have your password available. Labels differ by Android version. See Netflix says “Can’t Connect to Netflix”.

Install available updates

Update Android or the device firmware and update Netflix through the device’s app store. An update can resolve compatibility problems, but Netflix does not guarantee that it will remove 11003. Its broader guidance, including a Google Play Store update path for NVIDIA Shield, is at Netflix crashes or closes and Netflix freezes or gets stuck loading.

Try another title

If one film or episode fails while other titles play, the problem may be title-specific rather than a general account or device failure. Netflix uses this comparison in its playback troubleshooting, including its error 1003 guidance.

Is the problem Netflix, your device, or your network?

These comparisons are diagnostic inferences, not official definitions of code 11003:

Test What the result suggests
Netflix works on another device using the same Wi-Fi The affected device, its app state, or its local settings are more likely.
Netflix fails on several devices on the same Wi-Fi Investigate the router, ISP, DNS, VPN, filtering, or network restrictions.
Other titles play normally The failure may be limited to one title.
The affected device works on another trusted network The home network, DNS, VPN, hotspot, or ISP path is implicated.
Netflix still fails after updates and a device refresh Device firmware, compatibility, or manufacturer support may be required.

Weak or unstable connections can cause loading and playback problems, and public or managed networks may block video services. Netflix’s network context is covered at TV show or movie loads slowly or keeps buffering.

When to contact Netflix or the device manufacturer

Contact Netflix if 11003 continues across more than one device or network, or if the general troubleshooting flow identifies an account or service issue. Start with Netflix’s troubleshooting index; the code alone does not prove a service-wide outage.

Contact the device manufacturer for firmware, operating-system, compatibility, or restoration assistance when device-specific steps fail. A factory reset can remove apps, account data, and settings, so treat it as a last resort and follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Netflix says that, if the manufacturer cannot resolve an incompatible or failing device, watching on another supported device may be necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Netflix error 11003 proof that Netflix is down?

No. The code alone does not establish a Netflix outage. Compare another device and another network before drawing that conclusion.

Will clearing Netflix storage delete my Netflix account?

No. It signs the app out and removes downloaded titles from that device; your account remains intact.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Should I factory-reset my device immediately?

No. Use the official setting change or restart first, then general troubleshooting. A factory reset is a destructive last resort with manufacturer guidance.

Why does Netflix work on my phone but not my tablet?

That pattern points toward the tablet’s settings, app data, software, or network path rather than automatically indicating an account problem.
