Wilbur Soot’s public collapse was not caused by a court ruling, a criminal conviction, or the disappearance of his audience. It followed a much more difficult kind of internet controversy: an allegation of abusive conduct, a partial acknowledgment from the person accused, a dispute over consent, and a fanbase left to interpret evidence that was never fully made public.
In February 2024, Twitch creator Shelby “Shubble” Grace described a past relationship in which an unnamed boyfriend repeatedly bit her, left bruises, joked about the marks, and continued after she objected. Wilbur Soot later identified himself as the former partner. He acknowledged the biting but said he understood it as consensual, playful, and mutually enjoyed.
That difference—between acknowledging the conduct and disputing its meaning—became the central issue. It also explains why the controversy damaged trust even though Soot continued to retain millions of followers and later resumed publishing content.
What happened in February 2024?
Shubble’s account emerged during a livestream and subsequent online discussion. She did not initially name the former boyfriend. According to public reporting, she described repeated biting that caused bruising, comments about the marks, and conduct that continued after she had expressed objections. She said the behavior later moved from her arms to her legs.

Viewers quickly connected the story to Soot because the two had previously been in a relationship. Older clips in which Soot discussed or appeared to bite other people were also circulated as possible context. Those clips helped fuel online speculation, but they do not independently prove that the incidents described by Shubble occurred under the same circumstances or without consent.
On February 27, 2024, Soot publicly confirmed that he was the former partner described in the account. His statement said he understood the biting as consensual, playful and reciprocally enjoyed
. He said conversations and private messages had contributed to that understanding, while also expressing regret for being a poor partner.
He did not publish the messages. Soot said he would not share them out of respect for Shubble’s privacy. As a result, the public record contains his description of those conversations, not the conversations themselves.
Shubble responded negatively to his statement and announced that she would take a break from social media. No publicly verified source reviewed for this article establishes a private settlement, reconciliation, or mutually agreed account of the relationship.

The central dispute: conduct, consent, and boundaries
The controversy is often summarized inaccurately as either a complete denial or a full admission. Neither description fits the available record.

The available evidence does not include a complete set of private messages, contemporaneous medical records, or an independently verified reconstruction of every incident.
For that reason, it is inaccurate to write that Soot “admitted to abusing Shubble.” It is also inaccurate to say that the allegations were “completely disproven.” The defensible wording is narrower: he acknowledged the relationship and the biting, while disputing the characterization that the conduct was abusive or nonconsensual.
Why the response intensified the backlash
Soot’s statement contained both regret and a defense of his interpretation of the relationship. He apologized for being a poor partner, but he also said he was shocked by the characterization of the conduct. Critics saw that combination as minimizing the alleged harm or shifting attention toward his own understanding of consent. Supporters interpreted it as a clarification rather than an admission.

That is why calling the post simply an “apology” misses an important distinction. It was a public response that included an apology for the relationship and an explanation of how Soot understood consent. It was not an unqualified admission of abuse.
The missing messages made the dispute harder to settle. If the messages had been released, they still would not necessarily have resolved every question, but their absence meant that audiences were being asked to choose between competing accounts without seeing the material Soot cited in support of his position. His decision not to publish them also reflected the privacy concerns inherent in releasing intimate conversations about a former partner.

The influence of Soot’s public persona
The reputational damage was amplified by the kind of career Soot had built. His audience did not know him only through isolated music releases or scripted appearances. It formed around livestreams, recurring friendships, personal humor, Minecraft content, and a sense of ongoing intimacy between creator and viewer.
That relationship can make allegations feel like a personal betrayal. Fans were not merely evaluating an unfamiliar public figure; many were reassessing years of jokes, friendships, clips, songs, and community identity. The controversy forced viewers to decide whether their image of Soot was compatible with Shubble’s account and whether continuing to support his work was acceptable to them.

- some continued to support Soot and accepted his account of consent;
- some separated Lovejoy’s music from Soot’s personal conduct;
- some rejected both public narratives as incomplete;
- others treated the dispute as another episode of fandom conflict rather than as a serious interpersonal allegation.
This fragmentation is a more accurate description of the “shattered fan loyalty” than the claim that every viewer abandoned him.
Did Wilbur Soot lose his entire audience?
No verified data supports the claim that his entire audience disappeared. Third-party Twitch tracking recorded a decline of approximately 132,000 followers during 2025, from roughly 4.5 million to 4.4 million. That is a substantial numerical loss, but it is not a total collapse.
Later Social Blade snapshots listed approximately 4.3 million Twitch followers and more than 5.2 million YouTube subscribers. These figures are estimates from third-party tracking services rather than official platform reports, and they should not be treated as an exact measure of active fans. A follower may be inactive, may have forgotten the account, or may never have watched regularly.
Nor can follower data explain why people left. A decline may reflect moral rejection, platform migration, inactivity, account cleanup, changing content interests, or the controversy itself. The numbers establish audience erosion, not the motive behind every unfollow.

No. On June 19, 2025, Soot uploaded an official video titled “An Update Video”. The video discussed Lovejoy activity, new content, and his active social accounts. The YouTube listing recorded more than one million views.
That return is significant, but it should not be confused with a full restoration of his former career. A controversial update can attract supporters, critics, former fans, and viewers who are simply curious about what the creator will say. High view counts demonstrate continuing reach; they do not prove that trust returned or that the old audience reunited.
Older biting clips and claims involving other people
After Shubble’s account became public, older clips showing Soot biting friends or acquaintances circulated widely. Some viewers treated them as evidence of a broader pattern. However, a clip showing biting does not establish whether the person consented, objected, was injured, or was in a romantic relationship with Soot. It also does not show whether a refusal was ignored in that specific incident.
Online compilations can make separate moments appear to be one continuous body of evidence. A responsible account should identify the speaker, date, setting, exact wording, and context for every additional claim before describing another person as a victim.

Claims that Soot had the same safe-word arrangement with every person he bit are not verified. Public discussions distinguish Shubble’s account from claims involving other creators, and the alleged arrangements were not necessarily identical. The existence of a fan post or a compilation is not enough to establish the facts of a separate incident.

In documentary terms, this was a reputational downfall rather than a legally adjudicated one.
