Embark on a journey to unveil the mysteries of China’s New Silk Road, the largest investment program in history, connecting East and West through a sophisticated network of roads, railways, ports, and airports. A two-part documentary, dissecting the mammoth infrastructure project, reveals China’s motives and geopolitical ambitions, fueling debates about the country’s influence in the world.
Starting in Shenzhen, the Pearl River Delta city where China’s meteoric rise to an economic superpower began 40 years ago, a team of reporters travels on a container ship towards Southeast Asia, exploring the far-reaching impacts of China’s massive investment program. Despite Beijing’s promises of shared benefits, rising prices and rents make many locals feel like losers, while the wealthy landowners enjoy a bonanza. Meanwhile, the growing resistance in Myanmar casts doubt on China’s ambitions, raising questions about the locals’ access to electricity and China’s strategic access to the Arabian Sea. Join the documentary to uncover the truth behind China’s New Silk Road.
