Parenting while blind

Mila’s parents are blind, but Mila can see. And so, from a young age, they had to trust her with responsibilities that most parents would be apprehensive about delegating to a child. Whether it was crossing the road or doing housework, Mila had to be independent, knowing that her parents had no choice but to rely on her. But how do you balance the desire to let your child have as normal a childhood as possible with the need to keep them safe when you can’t physically see the world around them?

This question lies at the heart of a touching documentary that explores the lives of a family grappling with this unique challenge. Carolina Machhaus met Mila and her parents to capture their story, sharing their experiences of navigating a world that often fails to account for people with disabilities. In doing so, the documentary offers a poignant reflection on the courage and resilience of a young girl, and the love and trust between a family that has defied the odds to build a life filled with hope and possibility.
