There is no officially dated new Transformers movie. Paramount’s current theatrical schedule includes releases through March 2027, but no new Transformers feature appears on it. The franchise is still active, however: one untitled live-action film is in development, and an officially announced Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover remains in the works.
The only Transformers movie with a firm upcoming theatrical date is the 40th-anniversary re-release of the 1986 animated classic. It returns to U.S. cinemas from September 17 through September 21, 2026. That is a limited re-release—not a sequel or a new installment.

1. Untitled new live-action Transformers movie
Release date: TBA
Paramount has confirmed that it is continuing to develop new Transformers films, but the next live-action entry has not been given a public title, release date, director, cast, or story.
That distinction matters because franchise reporting often turns an early script, a producer comment, or a studio discussion into a supposed production announcement. This project is not at that stage publicly. Paramount’s current movies page lists dated theatrical releases through 2027, but no new Transformers movie appears among them. The franchise is visible as a movie-franchise link, not as a scheduled title.

At CinemaCon 2026, Paramount Pictures co-chairs Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein presented the studio’s theatrical plans. Paramount’s official recap confirmed the studio’s continuing interest in its major theatrical properties, but it did not attach a title, release date, director, cast, or plot to a new Transformers feature. What is known about the project?
TheWrap reported in August 2025 that Paramount had been presented with four unproduced Transformers scripts before the Skydance-era transition. One of those scripts reportedly had Michael Bay attached to direct.
That report should not be read as confirmation that Bay is directing the next movie. It does not establish that the script was approved, that the project was greenlit, or that it will be the next Transformers film. At present, the responsible description is that Bay’s possible involvement was reported in connection with one unproduced script.

2. Untitled Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover
Release date: TBA
The Transformers/G.I. Joe movie is a real, officially announced project, but it has no public release date. It is also not listed on Paramount’s dated theatrical slate.
The crossover was announced after Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. In that film’s post-credits scene, Noah Diaz is approached about joining G.I. Joe. Paramount’s announcement confirmed that the two properties were being developed for a live-action crossover. “Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover” remains a descriptive label rather than a confirmed final title.

Is Steven Caple Jr. still directing?
Steven Caple Jr., who directed Rise of the Beasts, is not currently confirmed as the director of the next Transformers movie. In April 2026, he said he had stepped away from the franchise for the time being, while still expressing interest in ideas connected with the G.I. Joe crossover.
That does not amount to a cancellation. The available information supports four narrower conclusions:

Will it continue Rise of the Beasts?
The expected connection is clear: Rise of the Beasts ends with Noah being invited to join G.I. Joe. That scene provides the crossover’s narrative setup, and Paramount’s announcement followed it. However, no full plot has been confirmed. There is no official information about which Transformers or G.I. Joe characters will appear, how large either faction’s role will be, or whether the film will retain the cast and continuity of Rise of the Beasts.
Earlier reports suggested a summer 2026 target. That target is outdated. It came from an earlier 2024 producer interview, and no current official date replaced it. Since the film is absent from Paramount’s 2026 slate, it should be treated as undated.
3. Transformers One sequel
Release date: None announced
A sequel to the animated Transformers One is not currently in active announced production. Director Josh Cooley said at BotCon in June 2025 that Paramount Animation had told him it was “not interested” in making a sequel at that time.

Cooley has said he had ideas for continuing the stories of Orion Pax—who becomes Optimus Prime—and D-16, who becomes Megatron. Those creative ideas are not the same as an approved movie. No sequel has been announced, no production has begun publicly, and no release date exists.

4. The 1986 movie returns for its 40th anniversary

U.S. theatrical dates: September 17–21, 2026
Hasbro and Fathom Entertainment are bringing the original 1986 animated film back to theaters in 4K for its 40th anniversary. Select international markets are also expected to participate day-and-date, although local availability may vary.
The film features the classic Generation 1 cast and remains one of the most consequential entries in the franchise. Its return is the only currently announced Transformers theatrical event with a specific date.
It is important not to confuse this engagement with a new movie. The anniversary event is:

Why the release-date rumors keep changing
Transformers projects are frequently discussed long before they become dated studio releases. A producer may mention a target window, a director may develop a treatment, or multiple scripts may be considered. None of those steps guarantees a finished film.
A genuine release-date announcement normally requires more than a rumor or an attachment. The project would need to appear on Paramount’s official slate or be announced through a comparable studio communication. Until that happens, “summer 2026,” “2027,” or “Transformers 8” should not be presented as confirmed information.

What is the next new Transformers movie?
