Short answer: the YouTube TV–Disney dispute was resolved on November 14, 2025, when Disney announced a multi-year distribution agreement and said ESPN, ABC, and its other networks and stations were returning to YouTube TV subscribers. The five legal backup options are Hulu + Live TV, Fubo, Sling Orange or Orange and Blue, ESPN Unlimited, and an over-the-air antenna.
Use Hulu or Fubo for the broadest one-service replacement; Sling Orange or ESPN Unlimited for an ESPN-heavy schedule; and an antenna for local ABC, CBS, FOX, or NBC games. Check your ZIP-code lineup and the network carrying each event before subscribing, because no alternative guarantees every sport or local affiliate.

Sports access after a carriage dispute
The five practical options
There is no single replacement that guarantees every event. Sports rights are divided among ESPN, ABC, FOX, CBS, NBC, TNT, regional sports networks, and direct-to-consumer services. The right workaround depends on the teams and leagues you follow, the networks carrying those games, and whether your local broadcast stations are available at your address.
1. Hulu + Live TV: the closest broad replacement
For a household that wants one cable-like service with ESPN, broadcast networks, and a wide selection of other sports channels, Hulu + Live TV sports lineup is the most direct place to start. Hulu’s current sports presentation lists ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SEC Network, Big Ten Network, FOX Sports 1, FOX Sports 2, CBS Sports Network, TNT, TBS, USA, NFL Network, MLB Network, and other channels.

That breadth makes Hulu a strong general-purpose substitute for viewers who watch college football, NFL games, NBA coverage, baseball, and major cable sports programming. Hulu also describes access to college football and NFL games carried by ESPN, ABC, BTN, FOX, FS1, CBS, ACC Network, SEC Network, NFL Network, and other networks.
The catch: the available channels depend on your plan and market. A channel listed nationally may not mean that your local ABC, CBS, FOX, or NBC affiliate is available at your address. Enter your ZIP code and review the exact lineup before subscribing. Also check whether the particular event you want is on a channel included in that plan; a broad lineup is not the same thing as every game.
Choose Hulu first if: several people in the household watch different sports and you want the fewest separate subscriptions. It is less attractive if you only need ESPN or only need local broadcast channels.
2. Fubo: a sports-centered live-TV alternative
Fubo sports streaming is another broad live-TV option, with a sports-first emphasis. Fubo’s network information lists ESPN and ABC, and its support documentation says NBA coverage can include ESPN and ABC where available. On qualifying plans, Fubo subscribers can also use their Fubo credentials in the ESPN app for nationally televised events shown on ABC and programming on subscribed ESPN networks.

It is particularly worth comparing with Hulu when your sports calendar includes several networks and you would rather not assemble separate league services.
The catch: Fubo does not deliver an identical lineup in every market. Local affiliates, regional sports networks, blackout rules, and plan requirements can change what you receive. Check Fubo’s address-specific channel map and confirm the exact network for the games you care about. ESPN app authentication also depends on having a plan that includes the relevant ESPN programming.
Choose Fubo first if: sports are the main reason you subscribe to live television and the local and regional channels you need are available in your market.
3. Sling Orange or Orange and Blue: a leaner ESPN route
Sling Orange for ESPN is aimed at viewers whose priority is ESPN and selected cable channels rather than a complete replacement for every broadcast network. Sling Orange includes ESPN and Disney Channel. Orange and Blue combines the sports-oriented Orange lineup with the broader Blue lineup.

- Enjoy More Tv antenna for Local Channels: Get more channels by antenna for smart TV, receive local broadcasting, ABC, CBS, NBC, CPS, FOX, CW, ION, UMAS, etc.
- HD Antenna for TV: Our digital TV antenna indoor adopts an upgraded Smart IC Chip, receives TV broadcasts including 4K, UHD and 1080 HDTV for the hd picture.
- 16FT Coax Cable: Coaxial cable is composed of a solid center conductor, dielectric insulation, three aluminum shielding layers, and a durable outer layer. so that you will never lose signal or suffer distortion even in bad weather.
- Compatibility and Usage Tips: Not suitable for older analog televisions; supports smart TVs and digital TVs. For optimal signal reception, try placing the antenna near a window or in other locations, and test both vertical and horizontal orientations.
- Easy to Install: Plug the coaxial cable from your digital indoor HDTV antenna into the ANT/IN connector on the back of your TV, point the TV antenna toward your local TV tower and scan for channels. (Check "dtv gov maps" for available channels).
The catch: local channels are available only in some markets. Sling is therefore not a universal substitute for ABC, FOX, NBC, or CBS, and it should not be treated as one. If your priority is a local broadcast game, first verify whether the relevant affiliate is included where you live. If not, an antenna may fill that specific gap.
Choose Sling if: you mainly watch ESPN and are comfortable with fewer local channels, or you plan to combine Sling with an over-the-air antenna. It is a poor fit if you expect one subscription to provide every major broadcast and cable sports network.
4. ESPN Unlimited: direct access to ESPN-controlled programming
ESPN Unlimited is the targeted option for a viewer whose sports diet is concentrated on ESPN. ESPN’s support documentation distinguishes ESPN Unlimited from ESPN Select: Unlimited includes live access to ESPN’s networks and services, including ESPN and ESPN2, as well as ESPN on ABC sporting events. Select is centered on the ESPN+ library and other streaming sports content rather than the full live ESPN network offering.
That distinction matters. ESPN Unlimited can address an ESPN access problem without replacing an entire live-TV bundle, but it does not replace FOX, CBS, NBC, TNT, every local broadcast station, or every regional sports network. A viewer who follows sports across several rights holders may still need an antenna, another live-TV service, or a separate league-specific subscription.
The November 2025 YouTube TV agreement also included access to ESPN Unlimited at no additional cost for YouTube TV subscribers, along with selected ESPN Unlimited programming inside YouTube TV. That announced benefit is different from simply assuming that every customer has a standalone ESPN Unlimited subscription. Check the offers and integration shown in your own YouTube TV account, because availability and packaging can change.
Choose ESPN Unlimited if: most of the games you care about are controlled by ESPN and you do not need a replacement for the rest of the live-TV lineup.
5. An over-the-air antenna: restore local broadcast sports without another monthly bill
An antenna can be the most economical solution when the missing games are carried by your local ABC, CBS, FOX, or NBC affiliate. Modern televisions generally include digital tuners, and the FTC’s guidance on indoor TV antennas explains that an inexpensive antenna may receive free local channels, often in HD.
Before buying, check indoor TV antennas for local ABC, CBS, FOX, or NBC reception at your address. Reception is not guaranteed: location, terrain, distance from broadcast towers, building materials, and antenna capability all matter. Some homes need an antenna capable of receiving both VHF and UHF signals, and a window placement may work in one room but fail in another.
- Check coverage first. Use a reputable local reception map or the FCC’s digital television coverage tools to see which stations are predicted at your address.
- Identify the actual affiliate. You need the local station carrying the event, not merely the national network name. ABC availability, for example, depends on the ABC affiliate serving your market.
- Choose the installation type. Try an indoor antenna when signal conditions are favorable. A higher, better-positioned, attic, or outdoor installation may be necessary in difficult terrain or at greater distances.
- Run a channel scan. After connecting the antenna to the television, start the TV’s channel-scan function. Repeat the scan after changing the antenna’s position.
- Test before game day. Confirm that the picture is stable at the time and in the room where you plan to watch. A channel that appears in a scan can still suffer from intermittent reception.
What an antenna cannot do: it will not receive ESPN, ESPN2, FS1, TNT, or other cable-only networks. It is best viewed as one part of a sports setup: antenna for local broadcast games, plus Sling, ESPN Unlimited, or another service for cable-exclusive events.
How to pick the least expensive setup that actually works
Start with the events, not the provider. Make a short list of the games or competitions you expect to watch over the next month and record the network carrying each one. Then separate the list into three categories:

- Local broadcast games: ABC, CBS, FOX, or NBC. Check an antenna first, then verify that the local affiliate is included in any streaming package.
- ESPN-controlled games: ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SEC Network, ACC Network, and ESPN events carried on ABC. Compare ESPN Unlimited, Sling Orange, Hulu, and Fubo.
- Other cable or regional games: TNT, TBS, FS1, regional sports networks, and other network-specific coverage. A full lineup check is essential because these rights may not appear in the same package.
For a broad single-service replacement, compare Hulu + Live TV and Fubo by ZIP code. For an ESPN-heavy schedule, compare ESPN Unlimited with Sling Orange. For mostly ABC, CBS, FOX, or NBC games, test reception for an antenna before adding a monthly service. For a schedule spread across ESPN, FOX, CBS, NBC, TNT, and regional networks, an antenna plus a targeted streaming service may cost less than replacing every channel with one large bundle—but only if that combination covers your specific calendar.
What happened in the YouTube TV–Disney dispute?
The dispute was a carriage negotiation: YouTube TV and Disney disagreed over the commercial terms for carrying Disney-owned networks and stations. It was not a technical failure on a viewer’s television and it was not a permanent disappearance of ESPN or ABC.
YouTube said Disney’s proposed terms would raise customer prices and reduce consumer choice. Disney said YouTube TV was resisting market-rate terms and emphasized that its programming was particularly important to sports viewers. Those are the two companies’ competing positions, not independently established findings. YouTube’s explanation of the dispute presents YouTube’s position.
On November 14, 2025, Disney announced that it had reached a multi-year distribution agreement with YouTube TV and that Disney’s full suite of networks and stations, including ESPN and ABC, had begun returning to subscribers. The announcement also described carriage of all ESPN networks, access to ESPN Unlimited at no additional cost for YouTube TV subscribers, selected ESPN Unlimited programming inside YouTube TV, genre-specific package options, and the possibility of Disney+ and Hulu bundles in selected YouTube offerings. Read Disney’s November 14, 2025 distribution announcement for the company’s account of the agreement.
In other words, the five options above are contingency plans and comparisons—not evidence that Disney channels are still absent from YouTube TV. A future carriage dispute, a plan change, a local-affiliate restriction, or a sports-rights shift could still affect what an individual subscriber receives, so verify the current lineup immediately before changing services.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhat will not solve the problem
- A streaming stick by itself: a Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, smart-TV platform, or game console can run a supported app, but it does not add ESPN, ABC, or any other programming rights.
- An antenna for cable networks: antennas receive local over-the-air stations, not ESPN, TNT, FS1, or other cable-only channels.
- A direct ESPN subscription for every sport: ESPN Unlimited is targeted to ESPN-controlled programming. It is not a complete substitute for FOX, CBS, NBC, TNT, regional sports networks, or every local station.
- Unofficial streams, VPN workarounds, or prohibited account sharing: these can violate provider terms, create security and reliability problems, and are not dependable legal alternatives. Match the event to an authorized service instead.
A quick decision checklist
- Write down the leagues, teams, and events you actually watch.
- Find the network or local station carrying each event.
- Check your ZIP-code lineup for Hulu + Live TV, Fubo, and Sling before subscribing.
- Check local antenna reception if ABC, CBS, FOX, or NBC covers much of your schedule.
- Choose ESPN Unlimited or Sling Orange when ESPN is the main requirement, rather than paying for a broad bundle you will not use.
- Confirm blackout, regional, plan, and app-authentication rules before the first game.
- Recheck the lineup when a season begins: sports rights and streaming packages are frequently revised.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the YouTube TV–Disney dispute still blocking ESPN and ABC?
No. Disney announced a multi-year distribution agreement with YouTube TV on November 14, 2025, and said its networks and stations, including ESPN and ABC, had begun returning. The dispute should be treated as resolved unless a new disagreement is announced.
Can an antenna replace ESPN?
No. An antenna can receive local over-the-air affiliates such as ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC when reception is available at your address. It cannot receive ESPN, ESPN2, TNT, FS1, or other cable-only channels.
Which service is the closest replacement for YouTube TV sports?
Hulu + Live TV and Fubo are the broadest one-service alternatives discussed here, but the best choice depends on your ZIP code, plan, local affiliates, regional networks, and the sports you watch. No service should be assumed to carry every game.
Does ESPN Unlimited replace a full live-TV package?
ESPN Unlimited is a targeted option for ESPN-controlled programming, including ESPN networks and ESPN events on ABC according to ESPN’s support documentation. It does not replace FOX, CBS, NBC, TNT, every local channel, or every regional sports network.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: The YouTube TV–Disney dispute was resolved on November 14, 2025, so Disney channels are not permanently gone from YouTube TV. If you still need a backup, choose Hulu + Live TV or Fubo for broad coverage, Sling Orange or ESPN Unlimited for an ESPN-heavy schedule, and an antenna for local ABC, CBS, FOX, or NBC games. Verify the exact network and ZIP-code lineup before paying for anything.
