Yes—YouTube Music supports pre-saves and release countdowns for upcoming albums and singles. YouTube announced the feature on September 16, 2025, and its delivery documentation now explains how releases can be made eligible. The key limitation: a pre-save is not a button every artist can switch on in the app. Its availability depends on release metadata supplied by the label or distributor.
What the feature does
When an eligible upcoming release is set up for it, listeners can pre-save it in YouTube Music and see a countdown to its release. YouTube says the countdown may appear on the release’s detail page and, as announced, on an artist detail page or album shelf. Those are possible placements, not a promise that every release will show up on every surface.
YouTube’s announcement says fans can receive a notification when a pre-saved release becomes available. Treat that as an intended feature rather than a guarantee: device and account notification settings, a changed release date, or the release’s delivery configuration may affect what a listener sees. A pre-save is not a purchase or a download, and it does not guarantee offline availability.
The feature supports singles as well as albums. That detail is easy to miss because the announcement and much of the coverage focus on albums. YouTube’s delivery guidance describes countdowns and pre-save buttons for both release types.

How listeners can find a pre-save
YouTube has not published a universal consumer menu path for finding every upcoming release. If an artist has announced a release, open YouTube Music and look for it on the upcoming release page, the artist’s page, or an album shelf. When the release is eligible and within its configured display window, look for a Pre-save control or countdown on the release presentation. Follow any prompt to complete the save.
If the release appears without a pre-save control, that does not necessarily mean anything is wrong with your app. The label or distributor may not have supplied the necessary metadata, the display window may not have begun, or support may differ by distributor, account, territory, or app surface. You can check that YouTube Music notifications are allowed on your device if an expected alert does not arrive, but reinstalling the app is unlikely to fix a release-delivery problem.

How artists and labels enable it
The countdown is driven by release-delivery data. YouTube’s documentation says label and distributor partners can provide visibility information that tells YouTube when an upcoming release may be displayed, separately from when it goes live. This is not generally a consumer-facing setting or a universal toggle that an artist can turn on inside YouTube Music.
YouTube identifies partner delivery through YouTube Studio Content Manager or a YouTube DDEX feed, using ERN version 3.6 or later. For ERN 3.8, documented visibility fields include ReleaseDisplayStartDate, CoverArtPreviewStartDate, TrackListingPreviewStartDate and ClipPreviewStartDate. For ERN 4.3, YouTube describes a ReleaseVisibility composite with fields including ReleaseDisplayStartDateTime, CoverArtPreviewStartDateTime and FullTrackListingPreviewStartDateTime.

Those field names are useful for a label or distributor’s delivery team, not a copy-and-paste setup recipe for every artist: the exact XML structure depends on the ERN version and delivery implementation. Artists should ask their label or distributor whether it supports YouTube Music’s pre-release visibility fields, whether the feature is enabled for their account or delivery tier, and what display timing has been set. Delivering a release to YouTube Music alone does not establish that its pre-save page will appear.
If the countdown is wrong or the button is missing, the distributor is usually the right first contact. It can check the release date, configured visibility window and metadata sent to YouTube. Release availability and timing can also differ by territory or edition. A deluxe, clean, explicit, remastered or regional version may be represented as a separate release.

YouTube Music pre-saves versus Spotify Countdown Pages
YouTube’s feature brings the core pre-save-and-countdown idea to its music service, but it is not documented as identical to Spotify’s Countdown Pages. Spotify describes a broader prerelease destination with track-list previews, clips and merchandise links, alongside pre-saves and a release timer. Spotify has also cited an eligibility threshold of 5,000 active listeners in the previous 28 days for eligible artists; that is a Spotify rule, not a YouTube Music requirement.

In practical terms, YouTube’s documented feature is centered on release visibility and saving an upcoming release. Spotify describes more campaign-oriented page features. Neither pre-saving nor appearing on a countdown page guarantees streams, chart performance or a particular release-day result.

What to check when something goes wrong
- No Pre-save button: Check whether the release is inside its display window, then ask the label or distributor whether it supplied the required visibility metadata and supports the feature.
- Countdown shows the wrong time: The release timing is tied to delivered metadata. The label or distributor may need to correct the date or visibility configuration.
- No notification: Check YouTube Music and device notification permissions, confirm the release date has not changed, and make sure you pre-saved the intended edition. Notifications are not guaranteed to reach every device.
- Some songs appear before the full album: Secondary reporting has described already released tracks appearing on an upcoming album page. This should not be assumed for every release or configuration.
YouTube says removing certain visibility fields disables the countdown and pre-save; some ERN 3.x deliveries may require additional fields to be removed for the feed to pass schema validation. That is another reason metadata corrections should be handled by the delivery partner rather than attempted by listeners.
Why the rollout depends on distributors
YouTube first announced the feature at Made on YouTube on September 16, 2025, saying it would arrive later that year. Its subsequent operational delivery guidance makes the important distinction: the feature is real, but visibility depends on how a release is delivered. Distributor adoption and accurate release data will determine how consistently listeners encounter it.
That makes the feature a meaningful addition for fans who want to save an upcoming release without remembering to return on release day, and for artists who want a prerelease presence inside YouTube Music. But it does not yet make every upcoming album or single available to pre-save, nor does YouTube’s documentation establish a full marketing toolkit with clips, merch or campaign analytics.
