How big is YouTube? YouTube says it reaches billions of monthly logged-in users, while YouTube Shorts generate more than 200 billion views per day. But there is no single official figure for all YouTube views in a month. The clearest snapshot combines several different measurements: users, views, uploads, unique audiences, watch time and live-event reach.
And the all-time most-viewed video is “Baby Shark Dance” by Pinkfong, which Guinness World Records recorded at 16,643,177,027 views on February 4, 2026. That is a dated record, not a permanent total: video counters continue to change.
There is no single official “monthly views” number
The phrase monthly YouTube views sounds straightforward, but it can refer to several different things:
- Monthly users: how many people use YouTube during a month.
- Views: plays of videos, counted under YouTube’s validation systems.
- Unique viewers: an estimated number of individual people, rather than total plays.
- Watch time: the total amount of time people spend watching.
- Uploads: how much new content is added.
- Live audiences: how many people watch a broadcast at the same time.
These measurements are not interchangeable. One person can create many views, a subscriber may not watch every upload, and a live stream’s peak audience is different from its total views.

YouTube’s current press statistics describe the platform as having billions of monthly logged-in users, but do not provide one precise platform-wide monthly view total covering Shorts, regular videos, livestreams, music and children’s content together.
The short answer: YouTube does not publish one definitive total for all monthly views. It does report more than 200 billion daily Shorts views, which is the closest major current view statistic—but it covers Shorts only.
How many people use YouTube each month?
YouTube says it reaches billions of monthly logged-in users worldwide. The wording matters. YouTube is reporting a broad scale rather than publishing one exact current number on its press page.
“Logged-in users” also does not necessarily represent every person who watches YouTube. Some viewers may watch while signed out, while one person may use multiple accounts or devices. For that reason, the company’s figure should be read as a measure of enormous global reach, not as a perfectly precise count of unique human beings.
YouTube’s localized versions are available in more than 100 countries and across 80 languages, according to its press information. Localization is not the same as a precise count of countries where the service can technically be accessed, but it illustrates the platform’s international scale.
How many views does YouTube get per month?
YouTube reports more than 200 billion Shorts views every day. A simple 30-day calculation gives:

200 billion daily Shorts views × 30 days ≈ 6 trillion Shorts views.
That is a useful rough monthly equivalent, but it is not an official monthly total. The daily figure is rounded and says “more than,” daily activity fluctuates, and a calendar month can have 28, 29, 30 or 31 days. Most importantly, the calculation covers Shorts and does not include the rest of YouTube.
It would therefore be inaccurate to say that YouTube gets exactly six trillion views per month. The defensible wording is: the company’s daily Shorts figure is mathematically equivalent to more than roughly six trillion Shorts views over 30 days.
What does “monthly audience” mean in YouTube Analytics?
For a channel owner, YouTube uses a different metric called monthly audience. According to YouTube’s Analytics documentation, this is the estimated number of unique viewers who watched a channel’s content during the previous 28 days.
The metric is recalculated daily and always looks back from the selected day. It can include viewers of Shorts, regular videos, livestreams and other channel content.
Monthly audience is an audience-size estimate, not a monthly view count. If one viewer watches five videos, those plays can contribute several views, but the person is counted once in the unique-audience measure. This makes monthly audience useful for understanding reach, while views and watch time help show how deeply people engaged.

What is the most-viewed video on YouTube?
The all-time record-holder is “Baby Shark Dance” by Pinkfong. Guinness World Records recorded the video at:
- 16,643,177,027 views
- Recorded on: February 4, 2026
- Original upload date: June 18, 2016

“Most popular” can mean different things: most views, most likes, most comments, fastest growth, most subscribers generated or most watched in a particular country or period. “Baby Shark Dance” is more precisely described as the most-viewed video on YouTube.
Other unusually large YouTube numbers
The most-viewed YouTube Short
Guinness recorded “BEST Duo Trick Shots” by @ColinAmazing as the most-viewed YouTube Short, with 4,660,426,915 views on March 10, 2026. Like the Baby Shark figure, this is a dated record and can change. The Guinness entry is the appropriate reference for that snapshot.

A Short’s view total should not be compared casually with a long-form video’s lifetime total. Shorts are consumed in a different product environment and can produce rapid, repeated plays.
BLACKPINK’s channel records
Guinness recorded BLACKPINK as the most-viewed band on YouTube, with 41,756,433,903 channel views on April 1, 2026. Guinness also recorded the group at 100 million YouTube subscribers on that date.

Those figures describe a music group’s channel and subscriber records, not the total views of one video. Channel totals and subscriber counters move continuously, so they should be treated as dated records. See the records for most views for a band and most subscribers for a band.
Major events can reach enormous audiences
YouTube’s figures for the 2026 FIFA World Cup show how large event-based viewing can become:

- The final’s official YouTube broadcasts reached more than 21 million average-minute viewers across more than 40 markets.
- Peak concurrent viewing exceeded 27 million.
These are event-specific figures from YouTube’s World Cup report, not ordinary monthly averages for the entire platform. “Average-minute audience” and “peak concurrent viewers” also measure simultaneous or near-simultaneous viewing, not lifetime video views.

YouTube says that more than 20 million videos are uploaded every day. Multiplying the rounded daily figure by 30 produces an approximate equivalent of:
20 million × 30 days ≈ 600 million uploads per 30-day month.
Again, this is arithmetic rather than an official monthly upload count. The real number is above the stated daily threshold and varies from day to day. Upload volume also does not tell us how many active creators there are, how many uploads receive meaningful audiences or how much watch time they generate.

Why YouTube numbers are difficult to compare
Views are not unique people
A view counts a play under YouTube’s systems; a unique-viewer estimate attempts to count people. Neither should be substituted for the other.
Shorts and long-form are different formats
The more-than-200-billion daily figure refers specifically to Shorts. It cannot be treated as a platform-wide total or directly compared with the lifetime views of a traditional video without explaining the format difference.
Daily figures are not automatically monthly figures
Multiplication can create a helpful estimate, but it does not turn a rounded daily statement into an audited monthly measurement. Always label the result as a calculation.
Live audiences use different measurements
Peak concurrent viewers means the largest number watching at one time. Average-minute audience describes average simultaneous viewing during a defined broadcast period. Both differ from total views and unique viewers.

Videos continue to receive views, and platforms may validate, remove or adjust activity. Record organizations may also update their pages periodically. A responsible statistic therefore includes the source and the date observed.
How to track your own YouTube numbers
YouTube Studio is the authoritative free starting point for channel owners. It provides first-party information such as views, watch time, audience geography and monthly audience.
Third-party services such as vidIQ and TubeBuddy can add keyword research, workflow and optimization features. Their estimates and scores should not be confused with YouTube’s own Analytics data. The YouTube Analytics API is intended for developers and organizations that need authorized channel or content data in dashboards and recurring reports; it does not expose a secret global YouTube view counter.
