The song is from Taylor Swift’s album The Life of a Showgirl, and the music video was shot and directed by Swift herself alongside the song’s production.
YouTube Premiere Time by U.S. Time Zone
The 7 p.m. ET premiere time translated to:
- Eastern Time (ET): 7 p.m.
- Central Time (CT): 6 p.m.
- Mountain Time (MT): 5 p.m.
- Pacific Time (PT): 4 p.m.
Because the official premiere occurred late on October 5 in U.S. Eastern Time, viewers in international time zones experienced the release on October 6 locally. This explains why some publications reference October 6 as the release date—they were reporting the local date in their region, not the actual premiere time announced by YouTube and Taylor Swift.

The Theatrical Premiere Came First
Before the YouTube release, the music video had an exclusive theatrical premiere as part of Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl, which screened from October 3 through October 5, 2025. This event took place in AMC theaters and served as the video’s world premiere.
The theatrical release was a special 89-minute program that included:
- The official “The Fate of Ophelia” music video
- Behind-the-scenes footage from production
- Taylor Swift’s commentary on songs from The Life of a Showgirl
- Additional lyric videos and supplemental material
However, the standalone YouTube upload focuses on the official music video itself. The broader theatrical content—including Swift’s commentary and behind-the-scenes material—was not necessarily included in the YouTube version, at least not in its entirety at launch. Readers do not need to purchase a theater ticket or find the full theatrical release to watch the official music video on YouTube.

Why You Might Have Seen Different Release Dates Online
October 5 vs. October 6: YouTube announced 7 p.m. ET on October 5, 2025. However, viewers in Europe, Asia, Australia, and other regions where it was already October 6 may have experienced the premiere on October 6 locally. Many international publications and social-media timestamps reflected October 6 UTC or regional date stamps. The canonical U.S. premiere date and time is October 5 at 7 p.m. ET.
Theater vs. YouTube: The October 3 theatrical premiere and the October 5 YouTube release were separate windows. The video was available to the broader public for the first time on YouTube on October 5.
