Lala Dominguez eventually persuades Macy to stop pursuing it, protecting Gibbs. Macy’s later continuity points toward leadership of the Los Angeles Office of Special Projects—but NCIS: Los Angeles made Henrietta “Hetty” Lange its on-screen office leader instead.
Who plays young Lara Macy?
Claire Berger portrays young Lara Macy in “Cecilia,” the NCIS: Origins season 1 finale. Louise Lombard played adult Macy in the two-part NCIS story “Legend,” which introduced the Los Angeles Office of Special Projects through a backdoor pilot. The casting reflects Macy at different points in her life, rather than two separate characters. TVLine’s March 31, 2025 casting report identified Berger as the younger Macy and Lombard as the adult version.
NCIS: Origins follows Leroy Jethro Gibbs early in his career in the 1990s. CBS’s series description identifies Austin Stowell as young Gibbs and Mark Harmon as the narrator. CBS’s series page lists the show and its current episode information.
What happens to Macy in “Cecilia”?
The finale brings Macy to the Camp Pendleton NIS office as a military police investigator. When the murder of Pedro Hernandez resurfaces, she investigates the case and its implications for Gibbs. CBS’s official synopsis describes the unearthed Hernandez murder as putting Gibbs at a reckoning and raising questions about one team member’s loyalty. The official series page lists “Cecilia” as the season 1 finale.

Macy is ambitious and driven by a strong sense of justice, but Lala Dominguez ultimately intervenes and persuades her to drop the investigation. In a post-finale interview with Parade, co-showrunner David J. North characterized Lala as the person who saved Gibbs from the consequences of the investigation and preserved his chance at a life outside prison and a future as an agent. That is North’s explanation of Lala’s importance to the story, not a detailed ruling on what would have happened in a real legal case. What is Lara Macy’s future in NCIS: Los Angeles?
NCIS: Origins connects Macy’s early career to the older series’ continuity: she is established as someone who eventually leads the Los Angeles Office of Special Projects. In Parade, co-showrunner Gina Lucita Monreal said the team intends to keep Macy’s story consistent with that canon: “We know that eventually she goes on to run the L.A. NCIS office, and we’ve seen that first encounter with her and Gibbs after many years and that it was very cold.” Monreal’s interview describes the writers’ approach to Macy’s future.

That future does not make Macy the familiar ongoing boss of NCIS: Los Angeles. When the series was developed after “Legend,” the role of office leader went to Linda Hunt’s Henrietta “Hetty” Lange rather than Macy. TVLine’s casting report describes that change, which explains why viewers of the Los Angeles series know Hetty as the team’s central leader even though Macy’s later leadership belongs to the broader continuity.
What the finale’s ending leaves unresolved
“Cecilia” ends with Lala in a severe car crash. The finale did not confirm that she died: in an interview published after the episode, co-showrunner David J. North declined to say she was dead. That uncertainty was the original cliffhanger at the end of season 1, not a definitive on-screen announcement. TVLine’s April 28, 2025 post-finale interview covers North’s response.

Where the series stands now
The finale aired in 2025, but the series has continued. As of October 8, 2026, CBS’s NCIS: Origins page lists three seasons and an episode dated October 5, 2026. CBS and its press materials identify Paramount+ as a streaming destination; availability and subscription terms vary by region and can change.
