Amy Bouzaglo’s view was that Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares and its production made a difficult situation worse—not that the show rescued her restaurant. That is her attributed account, not an independently established explanation for what happened to Amy’s Baking Company. The Scottsdale restaurant’s owners later discussed their experience in a follow-up special, but the available reporting does not prove that Ramsay or the production caused the business to close.
Why Amy Bouzaglo regarded the show as the “nightmare”
The title reflects the owners’ perspective: Amy and Samy Bouzaglo objected to how their experience was portrayed and, in later accounts, Amy blamed the show’s crew and food for the restaurant’s downfall. The distinction matters because a reality-TV episode can show a conflict while leaving unresolved how it was filmed, what happened outside the broadcast, and what ultimately affected a business. The available sources establish that the owners gave their account and that the network revisited the restaurant; they do not settle whether the show, public reaction, business conditions, a property dispute, or some combination drove the later outcome.
What the follow-up special established—and what it did not
Fox’s production material describes a return special about Amy’s Baking Company, featuring previously unseen footage and an interview with Amy and Samy. That confirms the follow-up’s format and that the owners had a chance to speak about the events after the original episode. What is known about the restaurant’s eventual closure
In July 2015, Fox News reported that Amy said the couple were negotiating to sell the Scottsdale property while intending to keep the Amy’s Baking Company name. This is contemporary reporting about their plans at the time; it does not establish that the show alone caused the restaurant’s closure. So the careful answer to “why did she believe Ramsay’s show was the nightmare?” is that Amy’s account blamed the production and its portrayal for worsening the restaurant’s situation. The evidence here supports attributing that belief to her, but not presenting it as a proven causal finding.
