The studio funded the effort in part through an equity crowdfunding offering that GamesBeat later reported raised $2.9 million from more than 5,000 fans. The game is not yet available: its current Steam listing gives a planned 2027 release.
Why Yarnhub moved from animation into games
Yarnhub built an audience with military-history animation, including content on the Yarnhub and Blue Paw Print channels. In March 2025, the company announced an expansion into game development. Founder and CEO David Webb said the studio had long envisioned making games and that viewers were asking questions such as “What game is this?” GamesBeat also reported that the SEC filing cited comments such as “Is this a game? Where can I play this game?” These are examples of audience language, not the results of a measured survey.
Webb said the animation team already worked with Unreal Engine, which gave the studio a production pipeline it could draw on for interactive projects. Game development was led by Cyril Barrow, Yarnhub’s head of games. Barrow argued that the studio’s existing audience and monthly video views could help with game discovery and retention. That is the company’s strategic rationale, not proof that viewers will become players or buyers.
“Our audience has grown around our love for storytelling, and from the very beginning, we envisioned creating games. Today, our audience is demanding a Yarnhub game, and we’re thrilled to take this next step with them,” Webb told GamesBeat in March 2025. The same report said Webb clarified that The Tank Museum did not endorse Yarnhub’s commercial ventures.

How the community funding worked
Yarnhub used a Regulation Crowdfunding securities offering, not a donation or reward campaign. Its 2025 SEC Form C identifies Yarnhub Animation Studios Inc. as a Delaware corporation organized on January 13, 2021, and PicMii Crowdfunding, LLC as the offering intermediary. The filing set a $75,000 target, a maximum of $5 million and a June 1, 2025 deadline; those were terms of a historical offer, not an open investment opportunity. See the SEC filing for the issuer’s filed offering details.
GamesBeat later reported that Yarnhub raised $2.9 million from more than 5,000 fans. Webb described the completed campaign by saying, “We raised $2.9 million and that was incredible.” That outcome is reported by GamesBeat and attributed to the company; it is distinct from the target and maximum set in the earlier filing. GamesBeat’s report and interview cover the reported result.

- It's not just a puzzle — it's your window to a playful Christmas concert. Colorful storybook art centers on a bow-tied cat at a red drum, with singing penguins, a corgi, a rabbit using a carrot microphone, and a hamster peeking from a brass tuba beneath a moonlit snowy sky. Assembling 500 pieces into a 20.47 x 14.96 inch scene rewards close looking with cheerful holiday detail and a satisfying finish.
- DUST-FREE THICK HD BOARD — Made from premium 0.085-inch (2.15 mm) high-density cardboard for cleaner puzzle sessions and a sturdy feel. Approximately 26% thicker than standard gray board (0.067 inch / 1.7 mm). Precision-cut pieces fit snugly with peel-resistant edges, helping reduce frustrating false fits.
- DOUBLE-SIDED, TWO COMPLETE IMAGES — The front features the exact artwork shown in this listing. The reverse features a complete random illustration composed of 6 light-tone color zones and may vary by production batch. Two playable sides add variety and replay value. Includes 2 A4 reference posters, one for each side.
- OPTIONAL VISUAL SORTING, THREE WAYS TO PLAY — When building the front, use the 6 illustrated color zones on the reverse to group pieces and organize the build. For Solo Play, use or ignore the zones as needed for your preferred challenge. For a Family Build (14+), assign one or more zones to each participant and complete the puzzle together. For a Speed Challenge, select a zone, time the build, and compare completion speed. Unlike puzzles with letters on the back, the visual zones avoid fixed, easily memorized A-F cues.
- RELAX, CONNECT, AND ENJOY THE PAYOFF — The cheerful animal musicians, snowy night, glowing decorations, and lively Christmas palette make this puzzle a natural fit for relaxation, mindfulness, stress relief, family game night, or seasonal display. Sorting colors and matching shapes supports focus, patience, and visual observation. The sturdy gift box provides gift-ready presentation and everyday storage, making it a fun Christmas gift for adults and family builds with ages 14+.
The filing also reports company revenue of $874,555 in fiscal 2024 and $439,367 in fiscal 2023, alongside net losses of $101,301 and $206,548 for those years, respectively. These are Yarnhub’s filed financial figures for the stated periods, not independent estimates of the game’s prospects or the wider market.

Brass Rain is Yarnhub’s first announced game. Its current Steam listing describes a co-op, combined-arms combat game inspired by real World War II events and historical locations. Steam lists Yarnhub Animation Studios as both developer and publisher. The game is not intended to be a simulation.

Launch focus: infantry and tanks
The Steam description says the launch focus is infantry and tanks. Aircraft and naval play are described as possible later expansions, so they should not be treated as confirmed launch features.
Release timing: the current listing supersedes the earlier target
When GamesBeat covered the game’s reveal in November 2025, the report described an early-access target in 2026. The current Steam page instead lists a planned 2027 release and says the game is not yet available. A planned date is not a guarantee, and the present storefront status does not support describing Brass Rain as playable.

What is known about the business model
Yarnhub’s SEC filing outlined a free-to-play plan with optional spending, including proposed passes and shop purchases. Steam currently marks in-app purchases as a feature, but the available listing does not establish final prices or detailed terms. Those specifics should not be assumed from the filing-era proposal.
What the expansion does—and does not—show
Yarnhub’s move combines an established animation operation, an Unreal Engine workflow and community equity funding around a planned game. Those ingredients explain the studio’s approach, but they do not establish whether its video audience will convert into a lasting player base. The current release plan and product details are still subject to change before launch.
