Spoilers for the Season 2 finale, “Do You See the Vision?” Crystal—not Angie—killed Lenny Broussard and later became the serial killer targeting sex offenders. Angie took the blame and kept Crystal’s role secret. When Will discovers the truth, he arrests Angie; the montage of their imagined life together shows what he wants, and what he gives up by following his principles.
What is the major twist at the end of Will Trent Season 2?
The finale reveals that Crystal is responsible for the killings of sex offenders across Georgia—and that she killed Lenny Broussard, Angie’s former abuser. Angie had taken responsibility for Lenny’s death, concealing Crystal’s role because she believed she was protecting Crystal and preventing Lenny from hurting someone else.
Angie connects the clues about the current murders and confronts Crystal. Crystal flees, falls head-first onto a rock, and dies. Angie tells Will and Faith about her connection to Crystal but does not confess that Crystal killed Lenny. Will pieces together the concealed history, and Crystal’s mother confirms his conclusion. Why does Will arrest Angie?
Will arrests Angie for tampering with evidence and making false statements under oath in the Lenny Broussard case. Her motive is understandable: she thought taking the blame would protect Crystal and keep Lenny from harming another person. But the cover-up connects the old case to Crystal’s later murders, and Will cannot simply disregard what he has learned.

The showrunners frame the decision as a collision between two positions, not a straightforward romantic breakup. Angie acted to protect someone she loved; Will follows the evidence and the ethical principles that guide his work. The story asks viewers to understand Angie’s reasoning without treating it as consequence-free. [TVLine]
Was Will and Angie’s future real?
No. The scenes of Will and Angie married and building a family are not a literal flash-forward. They are Will’s imagined possibility: the life he hopes for and the one he sacrifices when he arrests her.

TV Insider asked co-showrunner Liz Heldens whether the vision was in Will’s head or a tease. She answered, “I think it was both. It was in his head. But it was also like, it could have been.” The montage is a possibility, not confirmation that this future will happen. [TV Insider]
Co-showrunner Daniel T. Thomsen called it “the most dramatic way to show the audience what Will was giving up.” He connected Will’s decision to his ethical guidelines, which he described as his “North Star.” The family he imagines gives shape to a desire he rarely says aloud: a stable life with Angie. The showrunners also linked that capacity to hope to Will’s work through painful childhood memories with help from his uncle Antonio. [TV Insider]

Why did the showrunners choose this twist?
Heldens said writer Kath Lingenfelter proposed bringing Crystal back as a serial killer while the team was developing Season 2. The idea endured because it tied Angie’s past choice to the present danger: viewers can see why Angie took the blame, even as Will is forced to act on the truth.
Heldens described Angie as believing she was making the best of a terrible situation by taking the blame for Crystal killing Lenny. Crystal’s later violence puts Angie and Will on opposite sides of the case. The result is a long-running emotional conflict rather than a twist detached from the characters’ history. What did the finale leave unresolved?
- Will and Angie’s relationship: Heldens said arresting a romantic partner would be difficult to recover from, but the interview did not declare the relationship permanently over. [TVLine]
- Where Will goes: The showrunners had not settled on a destination. Thomsen mentioned Puerto Rico, where Will could visit Antonio, as one possibility—not a confirmed plan. [TVLine]
- Angie’s next step: They anticipated major consequences and a significant change in her life, while leaving open whether she might return to police work or choose another path. They did not promise a long trial. [TVLine]
- What Angie would have done if Crystal survived: Heldens said Angie would have arrested her if she had caught her alive; Thomsen agreed. Their account does not suggest Angie intended to let Crystal escape justice. [TV Insider]
