Fallon expressed support for Kimmel, then turned to President Donald Trump’s U.K. visit in a satirical segment that replaced his commentary with flattering voiceover.
What Jimmy Fallon said about Jimmy Kimmel
Fallon opened by joking that his father had sent him 100 text messages saying, “I’m sorry they canceled your show.” He then said: “I don’t know what’s going on, and no one does, but I do know Jimmy Kimmel, and he’s a decent, funny, and loving guy, and I hope he comes back.” TIME reported the remarks the day after they aired on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Fallon’s official show channel published the segment on September 18, 2025, under the title “Jimmy Reacts to Kimmel’s Suspension After FCC Pressure; Trump Wraps Up U.K. Visit”. The clip’s description says Fallon addressed ABC’s decision to suspend Kimmel indefinitely.
Why Fallon said people were worried about censorship
Fallon connected Kimmel’s suspension to a broader concern about what television hosts could say: “A lot of people are worried that we won’t keep saying what we want to say or that we’ll be censored, but I’m going to cover the President’s trip to the U.K. just like I normally would.” His words expressed concern about censorship; they were not a legal finding about whether censorship had occurred.

The context was ABC’s decision to preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live! indefinitely. ABC News reported that the program did not air Wednesday evening after ABC said the action followed Kimmel’s comments earlier that week about conservative influencer Charlie Kirk’s death. ABC News also reported that FCC Chairman Brendan Carr had called for Kimmel’s suspension before ABC announced its decision. That sequence establishes the reported timing, not that the FCC formally ordered the network to remove the show.
Fallon’s Trump U.K. segment was satire
After saying he would cover Trump’s trip as usual, Fallon began discussing the visit. A voiceover then supplied flattering statements in place of his commentary, including a mock nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize. The voiceover was part of the joke, not a sincere endorsement of Trump.

ABC and Disney later announced Kimmel’s return
The suspension was not still indefinite after ABC and Disney’s September 22 announcement. ABC News reported that Disney said Kimmel would return Tuesday. In its statement, Disney said it had suspended production “to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country,” described some of Kimmel’s comments as “ill-timed and thus insensitive,” and said it had reached the decision to return the show after conversations with him.
Those were Disney’s stated reasons and account of the decision, as reported by ABC News at the time. The announcement established a planned return; it does not by itself confirm the show’s schedule today.
