Dr. Jennifer Ashton’s final day with ABC’s Good Morning America team was June 27, 2024. ABC marked the occasion with a retrospective of her career; TV Insider reported that Ashton became tearful during a segment about her late ex-husband, Rob.
What happened during Dr. Jen Ashton’s final GMA day?
ABC News published a farewell retrospective on June 27, 2024, describing a look back at Ashton’s career and celebrating her last day with the team. A separate GMA3 listing from ABC also described a career retrospective and farewell that day. ABC News’ farewell video listing and the GMA3 listing confirm the date and occasion.
TV Insider reported that Ashton became tearful when the tribute turned to her late ex-husband, Rob, and that co-host Lara Spencer held her hand until the video ended. ABC’s listings do not provide a full transcript, so the specific moment and sequence are attributable to TV Insider’s account rather than an official transcript. TV Insider’s report also reproduced GMA’s farewell message: “We are celebrating and saying so long to our beloved colleague and friend Dr. Jen Ashton ❤️”. That was the show’s social-media post, not a quotation from Ashton during the emotional moment.
Why was Ashton leaving ABC?
Ashton was leaving ABC after 13 years to focus on Ajenda, a women’s wellness company, the Los Angeles Times reported. The farewell retrospective marked the end of her time with the network’s team.

How does her book relate to the tribute?
Ashton’s 2019 book, Life After Suicide: Finding Courage, Comfort & Community After Unthinkable Loss, addresses the family’s grief. Coverage connected the book to the story of loss recalled in the tribute; it is related context, rather than the focus of ABC’s farewell. TV Insider’s account and People’s coverage discuss the book and her family’s experience.
