He tries to save Leah, Jake’s critically injured girlfriend, but she dies. Robby then has to tell Jake—and the loss brings the weight of the shift and his own painful history into sharp focus.
What happens in “7:00 P.M.”
The penultimate episode of The Pitt’s 15-episode first season picks up amid the ongoing response to the PittFest shooting. Robby has been trying to reach Jake, who eventually arrives at the hospital. Leah is gravely injured, and Robby and the team try to save her. They cannot reverse her condition. Robby must tell Jake that she has died.
The scene turns on two kinds of pressure: Robby’s effort to keep fighting for Leah and the moment he has to accept that there is nothing more the team can do. Katey Stoetzel’s review describes Robby taking measures to save Leah partly to avoid delivering the news to Jake. That is the reviewer’s reading of the drama, not medical guidance. Stoetzel captures the emotional turn: “When Robby finally decides to call it, it’s clear he’s already breaking down.”
Why Leah’s death hits Robby so hard
The weight of the shift
Leah’s death is not an isolated tragedy in an otherwise ordinary day. The emergency department has been treating victims of a mass shooting, and the strain of the long response has been visible across the staff. Stoetzel’s review notes that Robby’s colleagues recognize how badly he is struggling, grounding his collapse in the relationships built across the shift.

Guilt and an earlier loss
Gabriela Burgos Soler’s Tell-Tale TV recap connects Robby’s guilt to the fact that he had planned to go to the festival with Jake. It also says Leah’s death recalls the earlier loss of Robby’s friend, Dr. Adamson. These details help explain why this death feels personal to him, but they are the recap’s interpretation of his motivation—not a creator-confirmed explanation or a direct statement from Robby.

The collapse reads as the collision of professional limits and private grief. Robby persists in trying to save Leah, then has to stop and face the outcome. That shift—from action to acceptance—leaves him with the news he must deliver to Jake and the emotional weight that has accumulated during the shooting response.
Episode 13 advances the story by an hour from the preceding episode, keeping the consequences of PittFest immediate. As the first season’s penultimate chapter, “7:00 P.M.” makes Robby’s breaking point part of the larger aftermath rather than a sudden, disconnected shock.
