Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Usually, a playlist stopping after one video means Autoplay is off on the device playing it, YouTube is waiting for you to confirm continued viewing, or playback has run into an error. Check the player on that device first, then use the timing and symptoms below to narrow down the cause.
First, identify what happens when the video ends
The symptom can mean several different things. Note which device and playback surface you’re using—YouTube’s mobile app, a computer browser, a TV app, casting, or an embedded playlist—and whether the video ends normally, shows a prompt or error, keeps buffering, or starts over. Also check whether this happens with every playlist or only one.
- It ends normally and waits: check Autoplay.
- It stops after playing unattended for a while: look for YouTube’s “Video paused. Continue watching?” prompt.
- One particular item is missing or won’t play: availability restrictions may be involved, especially in an embedded playlist.
- You see an error or loading spinner: troubleshoot the connection, app or browser, and device.
- The first video starts again: check whether the playlist loop control is on.
Check Autoplay on the device you’re using
Autoplay is a player feature separate from the playlist. When enabled, it starts another video after the current one ends. YouTube notes that Autoplay settings may differ between devices, so check the control on the device where playback stops; if you switch devices, check each one. On a watch page, scrolling away from the player or typing can also prevent the next video from starting automatically. YouTube Help: Autoplay videos.
- Open the playlist or video in the YouTube app or website on the affected device.
- Find the Autoplay control in or beside the player. Turn it on if it is off.
- Keep the player visible and, while testing the transition, avoid typing or scrolling away from it.
- Let the video finish and see whether the next playlist item starts. If you use YouTube on other devices, check their settings separately.
Check for YouTube’s “Continue watching?” prompt
If playback stops only after a stretch of unattended viewing, YouTube may be asking whether you’re still watching. Its Help page says the prompt can appear during Autoplay after 30 minutes of uninterrupted watching on mobile, 60 minutes on the web, or 180 minutes on TV. These are the intervals stated on YouTube’s current Help page, accessed in 2026; they describe when the prompt can appear, not how often it occurs. Choose “Yes” on the prompt to continue. YouTube Help: Why YouTube asks, “Continue watching?”.

If a particular playlist item is missing or won’t play
For an embedded playlist, YouTube says a video may not appear if its uploader disabled embedding, it is age-restricted, or it is private and has not been shared with you. Check whether the problem occurs in the embedded player or also when you open the playlist directly on YouTube. These restrictions are documented for embedded playlists; they do not establish the cause of every playlist that stops after one video. YouTube Help: Embed videos and playlists.

- Check your internet connection. If possible, test another connection and see whether the same video plays.
- Check the player’s video quality; if it is buffering, try a lower quality setting.
- Restart and update the YouTube app, browser, or device as applicable.
- On Android, YouTube includes clearing the app cache among its troubleshooting steps.
- Try another supported device or playback route—for example, open the playlist directly in YouTube if it was embedded—to isolate whether the problem is tied to one app, device, or player.
- If the issue persists, note the exact error and where it occurs, then send feedback through YouTube. Its playback guidance covers connection, browser, app, and device troubleshooting. YouTube Help: Troubleshoot problems playing videos and YouTube Help: Fix YouTube video errors.
If the playlist repeats the first video
A playlist that returns to its beginning after completion is behaving differently from one that fails to advance after item one. YouTube provides a playlist loop control for repeating a playlist. Use it when you want playback to start over after the playlist finishes, not as the first fix for a playlist that stops before moving to its next item. YouTube Help: Loop videos or playlists.

YouTube’s documented settings and troubleshooting steps can help narrow down the problem, but they cannot identify the cause on a particular device or account by themselves. Record the device and app or browser, whether it happens immediately or after extended playback, whether it affects one playlist or all of them, and any prompt or error message. If the issue is limited to one device, test another supported device or connection and report the details through YouTube’s in-product feedback. A past TeamYouTube response marked a different playlist issue resolved in 2019; that historical report does not show that a current problem is the same incident or establish a current service issue.
