The explanations in circulation come from anonymous sources in late-October and early-November 2024 coverage. They describe a couple who had grown apart, were “not on the same page,” and were pulled in different directions by work, travel, and living on opposite coasts. Treat these as reported accounts, not established causes.
What was reported, and when
The split was reported in late October 2024, and the reporting that followed has been consistent on timing but thin on cause. The sequence below reflects what each outlet published.
- October 2023: Vogue later reported that Kravitz was first seen wearing a ring around this time.
- 2021: The couple reportedly began dating after meeting on Blink Twice, Kravitz’s directorial debut, in which Tatum starred.
- October 29, 2024: Vogue reported that multiple sources had confirmed the engagement had ended.
- October 30, 2024: ELLE reported that People said the couple ended things the preceding weekend after about three years together. An unnamed source told ELLE, “They haven’t been on the same page and grew apart.”
- October 30, 2024: The Los Angeles Times reported that representatives had not immediately responded to requests for confirmation, and that the reports it reviewed gave no reason for the split.
- November 1, 2024: Us Weekly, citing an unnamed source, reported that travel and work had become an issue, that the pair were drifting apart, and that they realized they did not want the same things.
- February 2025: In an ELLE interview, Kravitz spoke about the film and Tatum on the record. A separate ELLE article from 2025 relayed a People-attributed anonymous account describing an amicable split and different life stages.
The reasons reported by anonymous sources
Every explanation published so far comes from unnamed people. The accounts overlap, but none is attributed to Tatum, Kravitz, or a named representative, so each should be read as one source’s description.
Growing apart and different priorities
The most consistent theme is that the relationship had changed over time. The ELLE source’s line that the pair “grew apart” and were not aligned is echoed by Us Weekly’s account that they realized they did not want the same things. This is the broadest of the reported explanations, and it is also the least specific.

Work, travel, and distance
Us Weekly’s anonymous source cited travel and work as a growing problem. A 2025 ELLE article, relaying a People-attributed source, said Tatum spent much of his time in Los Angeles because of his daughter, while Kravitz preferred New York. Those are logistical pressures, and the reporting presents them as contributing context rather than a verified cause.
Family priorities
The Us Weekly account placed Tatum’s daughter and family among his top priorities. That detail is attributed to the same unnamed source and is not confirmed by either former partner. Separately, the Associated Press reported in September 2024 on Tatum’s divorce settlement with Jenna Dewan. That report is family background only and does not connect to the later breakup.

Children
ELLE’s October 30, 2024 coverage also referenced Kravitz’s publicly discussed uncertainty about whether she wanted children, placed alongside an anonymous account of differing wants. No source confirms that children were the reason the couple split. Presenting the two side by side does not establish a link between them.
What the former partners have said on the record
Kravitz has spoken about the breakup only indirectly. In her February 2025 ELLE interview she said, “I love this thing that we made together, and I care for him very much,” and added, “I just feel so grateful that we got to go on that journey together.” She did not say that finishing the film, or any other factor, caused the split. The reporting covered here contains no on-record explanation from Tatum.

What is not established

- That the making of Blink Twice ended the relationship. The film explains how the couple met, not why they separated.
- That either former partner has publicly explained the split.
- That Tatum’s divorce from Jenna Dewan had any bearing on this breakup.
The most recent on-record comment in this coverage dates to February 2025. If either person has since given a fuller explanation, it is not reflected here.
